How do I target players with heals?

How do I target players with heals? Say a tank is running around within a bunch of mobs I rarely am able to target the tank, but instead target the mobs. That means when I cast the heal spell I heal myself; even when I am at full health and the tank has very low health? I don't understand how it is possible to heal with this??

You don't. As long as players are in FRONT of you. EVERYONE will get the benefit of the heal.

Yep, its a cone shaped field in front of you.

Typically, the best stack is the Healer at the back of the group, about 26 meters away from the boss, the two DPS between you and the boss, and the Tank right up in the bosses face, but facing the boss away from the DPS and you.

And, any tank that is running around with the mobs chasing them is not doing their job. Their job is to kite the boss to an advantageous position, if needed, then hold them in place as long as possible. So, tell your Tank to find a place and stay there, unless the boss jumps around, as some do.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I think only breath of life targets the player with the least amount of health (if they are not too far away)

Really? The info on the heal says heals youself or an ally in front of you... so the "or" is actually an "and"? It just looked like I was only healing myself and not the tank when mob hp bars appeared at the top.

And when you say everyone you mean all 3 other party members, provided they are in front of me, AND myself will be healed by the specified amount mentioned in the spell infobox?

Healing in this game is different. You don't target specific players to heal them by clicking on their names or anything like that. Most of our heals are circular/cone AOE heals. Some you can place strategically in particular locations (e.g. Healing Springs), but most require your group mates to stand in front of you within range of your AOE heals. If you position yourself appropriately, you'll be fine.

What heal spell are you using? They don't all work the same.
PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo

    With what spell?

For Healing Springs: Target the heal on the player you want to heal (or better yet, the whole group) and click.

For Magic Mushrooms: Turn towards the player(s) you want to heal and click.

For Healing ward: Press button. Heal will go to the lowest health player.

For Ritual of Retribution: Everyone should be standing in the healing circle.

For BoL: Turn towards the player you want to heal and hit button.

For Combat Prayer: Turn towards the player you want to heal and hit the button.

For the warden heal that pulls you to victim or pulls them to you: Look at them until they turn blue in the face (I mean, get a blue outline) and press button.

I'm forgetting a few heals here.

Honor the Dead; and it does say its target thingy is a "cone". So there must have been something I missed when I tried it. I will try again and see if works as you guys say it does. that healing is just a matter of pushing a button once in a while, along as other players are in front of me and within range.

Don't use Honor the Dead. Remorph the skill to Breath of Life -- it heals two additional allies and is your "oh [snip]" button when things go pear-shaped in a dungeon.

Is there any way to make my character turn without running? I mean so I can turn to face the ones needing heals without running? It can be a bit confusing that I am looking at players needing heals, but my character is facing the opposite direction (maybe that was what fooled when I tried it and I thought it didn't work). Any way to set the camera to strictly look in the same direction my character looks? (Is first person the only way to do this?).

Healing in first person is a really easy way to let your whole group die. :) You should be playing in third person (especially while in dungeons), as it's easier to see what's going on. Also, when you're in first person, your camera might be facing the way you want it to face, but your character isn't (which you won't see if you're in first person). Are you playing on PC or console?

On PC. I haven't tried healing before; just healing my kid for now when we play together. Practicing a bit and leveling up the healing skills before I want to go heal in dungeons. I almost always play 3rd person; but I didn't know that when looking around in 1st person the character doesn't actually turn; so that completely annihilates the thought that perhaps 1st person would be a way to have my character turn without running.

Let's not forget the best heal in the game, Funnel Health.

For that just hit the hit 4 times and all of the group will be getting a heal.
