Hi,
I recently hit CP160 and started wondering how to build my DK - since I started I wanted to build a character that would be able to tank, maybe not the hardest dungeons, but do decent at the ones that are normal and do not really require a dedicated tank.

So I searched various builds on woeler and alcasthq sites, and mostly the builds are full health build ones. Then I checked PvP builds and they're full stamina, which means I'd have to respec when I want to go PvE -> PvP and the other way. So that made me thinking, how bad is it to try and build (is there even such build) a full stamina DK that is able to tank some harder dungeons, do public dungeons (maybe not solo, don't know if that's possible as DK, if it is I'd appreciate some advices) and at the same time join Cyrodill without spending gold on resetting skills? It made me thinking that I'd rather need to create a separate char for PvE and for PvP.

Any thoughts?

Simply build a stamina DK DD build and get 2 full sets of gear for him 5+5+2 or 5+5+1 or 5+3+4. One for DD, one for Tank. It works just fine. For easy dungeons you can go hybrid: wear medium and have one tanking bar with 1H+S and specific skills and one DD bar with 2H or 2W - the former is better since brawler makes you tanky when facing multiple mobs and you can heal fast with rally. I suggest combining a 5p dropped with 5p crafted set or just go crafted with dropped jewels until you can get your gear. In that case I suggest making the set you don't plan to keep at CP150 and only upgrading to blue to save materials.

I run full stamina on my DK. In PvE I play as a tank, in PvP I try to survive while doing at least some damage. I can tank all vet dungeons and I can survive and do at least some damage in PvP. So, it works.

For tanking vet dungeons in random groups, I find it comfortable to sit at around 34k health without food. Plague Doctor set is my friend here. In PvP, I need more stam reg. I found Eternal Hunt set to be quite helpfull in this respect.

Not sure how this would work in vDSA or trials since I've yet to try those with my DK.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your replies, my hopes for stamina tank are not dead then. I will try to get monster set for DD = spriggan for now, and some tank set, not sure which one though, any recommendations?

My stamDK is a 'tanky DPS' build. All stamina.

Her DPS set is Spriggan's + Hunding's + 1-pc Molag Kena. (5-piece Spriggan's with jewellery, 5-piece Hunding's, which drops to 4-piece when on bow backbar).

Her tank set is Plague Doctor + Order of Diagna + 1-piece Mighty Chudan. I went with those sets to start because they are easy, but also because they are all + Health.

Fantastic, thank you I will take a look into that sets!

    Cheap and easy:
all attribute points in max stamina.
Get jewelery, hands and belt of spriggans and 7th legion (both drop in bangkorai, some of the parts r questrewards even).
Craft 3 armorpieces of hundings rage (1 light, 1 medium, 1 heavy)
    Get 2 heavy bloodspawn pieces.
Choose between 2h/bow with 1 more hundings head or shoulder + krags head or shoulder (medium) or
dw/bow with 2 medium kraghs. (all weaps crafted hundings)
Craft an additional s&b of hundings to wear together with either the 2hander or the dw daggers.
AlphaGear is really helpful to swap loadouts.

If u want to help your group a bit more in dungeons, drop hundings for torugs (w/ infused crusher glyph on s&b).

U can tank everything up to vdsa in that setup.

Depending on how much grinding efford u wanna show later on, got for alkosh + ebon and nightmothers gaze/sunderflame+hundings/vo.

So much for the pve side of things. no clue about pvp, i shoot ppl in the face with fireballistas and try to look big and intimidating when traveling between keeps so gankers leave me alone ;)

Until morrowind tanks used to run 64 points into stamina so yes it can be done. Just swap gear. For vet trials you'll need to change CPs as well

All trials except vHoF can still be tanked with full stamina builds, since you can easily reach 30-35K health with gear bonuses, most of your block cost reduction comes from jewel enchantments, and magicka recovery from consumables such as whichmother's brew or Ozorga's Red Frothgar as well as Atronahch mundus. I actually spec about 40 CP into shadow ward star on my chars because I'm at CP cap. This is in no way detrimental to DPS and blocking is needed in some content for all characters regardless of role. Especially for magicka builds that only have 10K stamina pool, and have to block cast a lot due to AoE those points are really good.

What about public dungeons? I'd like to try and solo them, I've been thinking about proc set for that, Thunderbug + Viper + something (Tremorscale? Though I don't do vet dungeons) - is that viable for solo playing?

I'd like to find this. I feel like i have to switch gear, cp, attributes to go from tanking to pvp tanky dps. Id love points in stam, and cp for damage and be able to tank dungeons. Just to switch gear and some skills would be great! I dps in trials. I feel when i tank i have crap dps so being able to fufill tank role and add tp damage would be great.

What sets for tanking would do this?

Was thinking spriggins and knight errant 5 and 5 both bars, 2 bloodspawn. Thoughts?

Or. Plague doctor (for health) with knight errant. Idk. Im stuck.

Public dungeons are faceroll easy. The enemies are basically per par with overland trash mobs, only more densely packed, and the "bosses" are just the elite version of the same. Try to solo a world boss or a normal dungeon to check if a build is viable. PvP is hard.

try Pariah set, 3 jewelry plus weapon and shield. you can buy that set dirt cheap from guild stores and it gives you tons of resistance.

the other set you can choose a heavy armor one to tank dungeons that require higher health. plague doctor isnt expensive of you do not care abt the traits.
and choose a medium armor dps set. get someone to craft you hunding's rage. or farm TFS or VO.
