When the transmogrification system comes, give us options!

Hello,

I am just starting this thread in order to suggest that the new transmogrification system should allow us to choose the style of any armor type (i.e light, medium or heavy) even though that's not the original armor type of the item we are transmogrifying.

I am not talking about transmutation (the ability to re-trait an item). This thread is about the ability to change the style of an item -> called transmogrification in reference to Wow.

Negative. If we are going to go to that extreme then it would be easier to just make every armor set craftable.

I want full freedom with it. For example, to be able to click on say, a max level nord heavy helmet, and morph it so it visually appears like a level one khajiit light hat.

That's not what I would be morphing, but it's just an example. The menu could be something like this-

You click on armor piece (in this case hat), it then shows a scrolling list of every single level stage, material(light, medium, heavy), and motif of hats you know. You then just click the one you want, agree to morph it, done. Simple.

I'd love that too, and for those that complain that in pvp it would ruin being able to tell the class of the other person by its armor, well, that already happens with costumes anyway...

    Far more limited
Even with crafted gear you are limited to the cp160 one and the armor types. More so with weapons there lower classes ones let you avoid the red color.

Grinding just make you go in circles.

The change reduces the impact of RNG. What is being suggested in this thread would mean sets Zos has decided will be a certain weight becomes meaningless and could have negative impacts on the game we cannot predict properly given all the drop sets out there.

It is the same reason every set is not craftable.

    So no.

Even simpler you use an item as an template. This is something you craft, find or buy put this in the style slot, put item you want to change in the item slot press button and you you change style, this destroy the style template. Simpler and offer the option of costume armor, think the broom and bucket

Not gonna happen, considering that alot of people would love something like this, especially those who have to deal with Vampire cuz its needed in practically all worthwhile tank builds, Zenimax wont do it. They too busy making content for the only demograph they care about, the super casual player. I too would LOVE to be able to change a Monster helm and shoulder appearance into something else I am capable of changing into so long as I have the motif for it. But it wont happen. Hell even Everquest 2 has a system in place for *** like this.

So till either a Vampire look hide option, or what I described above happens, im stuck in a Lion Elite costume, due to how ugly the monster helms, most of em, are, and I cant do anything about other dungeon pieces either.

    Sighs.

They should let us transmog one item into the appearance of any item of the same type that we have. You want your Warmachine dagger to look like a Maelstrom dagger? as long as you have one, you can give it that appearance. Found a really cool non-set sword that dropped from a mob? You can apply its appearance to your Master's Sword. Love the way Red Mountain armor looks? Give your Hunding's gear the the same appearance. Another great thing about a system like this would be to that it would let us use the appearance of lower material tiers, so just craft a style weapon out of ebony to take the appearance from and BOOM, no more red weapons!

I really hope that this is the direction that they go for with the transmog system. It creates so many amazing possibilities! :)

    Transmutaion: change the trait. (Gameplay)
    Transmog: change the appearance (Vanity)

Transmutation is the system scheduled for release right now. Transmoging is still a WIP that will come later. (because they still gotta shift through spaghetti code to get it working properly)

According to ZOS, transmogrification is the correct term. Transmutation is the process of changing an item's trait.

ok, it should be limited in a way that a dagger could only transmogged on a dagger. A staff looking like a battleaxe is a bit over the top.
I'm not even sure if you should be able to make a light armor piece look like a heavy armor.

Edit: And in the same moment they should provide a system to preview any wearable item on your character.

    So no.

No? It's still the same set, in the same actual weight, with the same stats. All he is suggesting is an appearance change ability.

    Put this way:

You want to use a SPC hat, but really like the look of the level 1 Khajiit medium armor helmet. What he is suggesting would allow the SPC hat to look like a helmet, but it would still have all the set bonuses of a light armor SPC hat, not those of a medium helmet.

It's an equivalent function to making your own costume overlay, affecting surface appearance and not actual stats.

How people are making the leap from that to RNG and gameplay effects and "it's like making every set in the game craftable" is really confusing to me, and I don't think it's because I just woke up.

I mean, I know I've heard the mantra "look good, play good (well)," particularly from certain guildmates, but it's not an actual in-your-stats thing.

I just want to make all my chest pieces look like a first tier Bosmer jack. I just hate the floating in space hip spike pad and also don't want a flap between my legs. I have not seen a costume I like and the changing look as you progress ruins the look I spent hours trying to create. I would probably change other pieces if I had the option, but the chest pieces really get me worked up.

Transmogrification is supposedly being worked on (Not sure if that's confirmed or not but I have heard rumors). This is not the system that we are getting in the next patch or whenever we get it. We are getting Transmutation...

    In case you still don't know the difference;

Transmogrification allows you to change the style of armor and weapons. (ex. changing an armor piece from Daedric style to wood elf style)

Transmutation allows you to change the trait of an item. (ex. changing a infused daedric dagger into a sharpened daedric dagger)

I would like to see a system in place that would allow a crafter transform any gear to a motif they completely know. Would make the motif's more relevant as now they are now only needed to increase you chance of a master writ and complete them.

You could not change weapon types because of animations with the weapon type.
Note that the broom is an two handed weapon :)
Armor class is no issue as you can use costumes anyway, lots of tanks in bath towel.
Combine broom with this for best effect.

its an chance the Transmogrification will be even more grindy, probably from another source than the trait change crystals like daily quests. That if not crown store only like the universal trait stones.
