Enlightenment Pisses Me Off

Admittedly, the title is dramatic for effect, and this isn't a big deal. But it does annoy me.

Enlightenment is a great CP catch-up mechanic, and great for allowing casual players to keep up. But I have 970 CP. I can quit the game for 2 1/2 years, and still be above the cap when I come back. Yet every night when I log in, I am enlightened. There's just no reason for this. Why does the Enlightened state exist for people well above the cap?

Does anyone else get annoyed by this?

How can you get annoyed by a buff ?

Unless it's because of the frustration of stockpiling a resource you will never be able to use and kinda hope you will keep in not being able to use, or the game will break...

Not sure why you are annoyed by this since it doesn't hurt you. But hey, whatever.

But I agree. If you are above the CP cap there e should be some sort of scaling "De-enlightenment" where your accumulation of CPXP slows to a crawl.

This would also gimp peoples feeling of progression and would lead to people not playing the game as much or at all if they are above the CP cap.

So at 970cp your enlightenment gets you what, 20% of a cp?

There is, a CP costs me almost a million XP now and climbing, that is how they slow it.
One days enlightenment of 400k doesn't even buy a CP anymore.
But what would XP be good for if CP advancement was taken away at cap?

Dude.... being Enlightened is awesome. Appreciate that you have awakened to the truths of the Universe and that your mind is not a dark cavern of ignorance, causing you to manifest every aspect of your worst fears and knee-jerk pre-programmed emotional reactions into the reality around you, as your thoughts serve as the nexus of emanation for everything you experience.

Leaving the buff as is does not affect game play at all for anyone over the current usage cap. Asking for a change in a no-impact area is a bad use of resources. I would rather them spend time in the areas of Engame -PVE and PVP. I would like to see time spent in GUI development. XBOX players so no addons. I understand that GUI dev is not a universal need so it being back burner makes sense to me.

They never bothered to code in a limit for the enlightenment? I mean, why should they, it wouldn't help you or change anything in any way. Also, this way they could reserve the possibilty of raising the cp cap some day, and then people like you should/will be happy that they got to earn a lot of extra cp? I think you should see it as a potentially good thing, not an annoyance.

I am 970+ CP and I'm very happy to get my enlightenment. CP would feel too grindy otherwise at these levels.

There's a slight sense of progression, the bonus rate helps a bit and yet it's less of a half of 1 CP

Well imho, the current system is far better then them either removing it or having a diminishing return.

Just be thankful they didn't implement a system wherein one loses cp or worse, as one gets to some predefined number beyond the current usage, the cp rolls backwards every night, forcing you to constantly play a certain number of hours a day or suffer going toward zero cp again.

Of course then some Crown shop item could be introduced tom restore lost cp; now wouldn't that be a hoot!?

I lol every time I get enlightened as it is only half a bar for me (CP889)

However, what gets my goat is, my enlightenment starts every night at 7:04PM, by which time I have already played 2 hours and I am in the puttering around not earning exp part of the gaming session.

    What double XP event?

    @Storymaster

Witches Festival is one of the events that provide something in game that can double the EXP you earn. Usually some potion or cake you eat. It also stacks with other in game exp multipliers like scrolls or grouping etc.

There are a few of these in the year.

I've heard lots of complaints about this game and people explaining what they are annoyed about. Often it's understandable. But why on Earth would you be annoyed by this cute XP buff?

If it's just about the message: Okay, I can understand it slightly then. If you're on PC, take a look a the addon "No Thank You", which has an option to suppress the enlightenment message.

Enlightenment is a great CP catch-up mechanic...

Except, it's not. It's a anti-grind mechanic. Enlightenment was designed to keep a player who spends 16 hours a day at their keyboard grinding Spellscar from being 16x as powerful as a player who puts in an hour a night. (Yes, I know the actual difference would be more like 4% or 5% more powerful, still the idea holds.) Which was a much more valid concern when CP was an uncapped system.

The catch up mechanic is CR get cheaper with each increase to the cap. A character trying to earn their 600th CP before Morrowind hit would have needed about 700k, while after Morrowind released it dropped to somewhere around 300k for that same champion point. There's a sharp jump when you move from the level cap to past it (usually around 200k on that point, and then the regular increases from there on.) That's the catch up mechanic. The low CP are stupidly cheap now, to the point that players are talking about being able to hit CR160 in fairly short order.

Once the CP cap hit, the need for enlightenment became... kinda dubious. I suppose there's still reasons to disincentivize grinding, and it does serve (kinda) as a log in bonus. (If you don't log in for 12 days, any enlightenment after that is wasted.)

Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about enlightenment. I kinda wish it was the other way round, ironically. With players getting an XP bonus for their non-50s, based on the number of level 50s they had.
