PvP Aside, What Does Faction Matter Anymore?

So, I still see some community websites that ask what faction your character belongs to.

Cyordiil not withstanding, what negative impact is there to playing with potential friends not the same faction as you?

Faction never meant anything to me.

In fact, the Faction split was why I bought the Any Character/Any Alliance as a Pre-Purchase. I care far more about Race than what zone they landed in after the Wailing Prison.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

It's probably more ingrained in players who were separated by faction.

Even though I'm not a role-player, my main characters belong to the Pact and "live" in Davon's Watch.

Faction means a lot to me. But for a PvE content? Not sure if there is any value.

although it means little to myself, i really appreciated that it was important to most other players on my map (ps4/na/Vivec)...

it helps make for some intense zerg battles...

now that lots and lots of players are following the cross factional path - cyrodiil is starting to get really weird...

When you ask for specific information and instead get a lot of nationalistic rhetoric:

In all seriousness, appreciate the info, guys. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to get into a situation where I couldn't trade with someone or do quests with someone or experience x content, PvP not withstanding.

It hardly matter, note that some guild even if not pure pvp guild has PvP events who you could not join if wrong faction.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

The only thing it determines outside of PVP now is which faction quests are Cadwells Silver and Gold for that character. But they can be done in any order so it doesn't really matter.

Stormproof: Vibeke - 50 EP mDragonknight | Savi Dreloth - 50 EP Magsorc | Sadi Dreloth - 50 EP Magblade | Sigtric Stormaxe - 50 EP Stamsorc | Valora Dreloth - 50 EP Magplar | Sigtric the Unbearable 50 EP Stam Warden
Scrub: Chews-on-Beavers - 50 EP DK Tank | Vera the Wild - 50 EP magicka Warden | Sigtric the Axe - 50 EP Dragonknight Crafter | Sigtric the Blade - 50 EP Lost Nightblade | Sigtric the Savage - 50 EP magicka Templar | Vibeka Shadowblade - 50 Ep Stealthy Ganky Nightblade |

Pre 1 Tamriel it meant a lot. You couldn't quest with someone from a different faction, you couldn't visit another faction area unless someone had already completed Cadwell's Silver or Gold and ported you there or once/after you did. Now, other than PVP, not much.

    There is none.

You can quest in any area, group with friends of any alliance, and group with them for endgame content.

PVP as of the One Tamriel update is the only place where it matters anymore.

I think all it does is start you off in the particular alliance story and zones. Which since One Tamriel update you no longer have to be stuck doing first if you so choose.

No relevance as far as I'm concerned, outside of the alliance war. Give us the option of choosing alliance when entering Cyrodiil, instead of tying it to the main quest.

Think this includes pvp as well, if your faction is losing in cyrodiil. There is no incentive to stay and fight when you can either just swap to the winning side or swap campaigns.
Hopefully zos is looking into making pvp more relevant.

It doesn't matter at all anymore. Zeni took one of the central ideas in ESO and threw it out the window because "wtf why not?"

Now that One Tamriel happened, Faction difference makes no impact outside of Cyrodiil. It used to be that players were segregated into different instances based on Faction so Pact players could never meet Dominion or Covenant players in the open world. Even when you traveled to Wayrest or Auridon you'd only ever see other fellow Pact players.

Now? The only "negative" impact there is, is the different colors beside everyone's names.

What I think they should do is when you choose a campaign, you choose which faction to fight for.

Could even lock it behind any race any faction upgrade if needed.

Agree about DC, they like to attack 1 player with bigger numbers

The devs felt the need to slice up the factions equally so that they could have a three way pvp mechanic. Outside of that, the factions don't make any sense lore-wise and they don't serve a purpose, even if there are some awkward in-game lorebooks of nords being excited to get along with argonians. Treat it as a mechanical necessity for a mmo.

Outside of PvP, changes from the top of my noggin' include:

    1. Location of the Harborage for that character
    2. Banner on the Dragonknight Standard Ultimate if that character is a Dragonknight
    3. The colour and emblem of the Alliance Rider Outfit, War Horse mount and War Dog pets when used by that character

But do any of these matter? Not really, no.

    Roleplay.

Alliance Rider costume, hood & warhorse colors.

But that's about it, really. Everything else is shared ever since Tamriel Unlimited.
