***Guide - Ultra Low™ Settings - Guide***

Hello Everyone,

I'm posting here as I have received an inquiry as to how I have played, in the past, with such low video graphic settings. Having low settings is helpful to to people who are using poor video cards, RAM, or CPU and cannot upgrade that hardware for some reason.

In the past, I achieved around 5 to 10 FPS on my laptop which clocked in at around 2.30 GHz, had 6 GB of RAM, and had graphics drivers that didn't work due to my downgrading of the operating system. I can only suggest that the tanking role is doable under such circumstances - I was able to complete all of the trials that were released at the time on hard mode as a tank with such settings. Mechanics that required quick timing were difficult to adapt to because I often found that my visual window for dealing with such mechanics was not in sync with the true timing window that said mechanic was actually occurring within.

You can see how I completed VSO...

gdTVzSv.jpg

Here is the view that I had after an unfortunate death that I had when becoming stunned by the mages phase transition mechanic at the same time that an axe heavy attack was occurring.

WFTI6D3.jpg

Dear lord, thank you for changing that awful knockdown mechanic @ZOS_RichLambert .

For those of you who are left reading this, then I am assuming that original Morrowindesque graphics do not frighten you and maybe you have some FPS troubles. I can offer the following advice that will help you achieve extremely low graphics, but please bare in mind that I haven't used such settings in about a year of time and am just assuming that such settings still work.

Option A - Lower Your In Game Settings

Display
Display Mode - Try to play in Full Screen (I know that doing so is a pain)
Vertical Sync - Off
Anti-Aliasing - Off
Gamma Adjustment - As low as you can handle

Graphics

Graphics Quality - Minimum (This will change your other settings)
Texture Quality - Low
SubSampling Quality - Low
Shadow Quality - Off
Water Reflection Quality - Off
Maximum Particle Systems - 768
Particle Suppression Distance - 35
View Distance - 0
Ambient Occlusion - Off
Bloom - Off
Depth of Field - Off
Distortion - Off
Sunlight Rays - Off
Grass - Off

Overall

Overall, these graphical settings will make your game look much worse, but you can actually make the game look ever more worse by not using the in game options, but instead altering your user settings file.

Option B - Lower the Settings Within Your UserSettings.txt File

You can navigate you your User Settings file by navigating to the following address on your hard drive that you have ESO installed to.

C:\Users\Personofsecrets\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live

Within that location will be your UserSettings.txt file. Please note that the hard drive you have installed ESO to and your user name may be different compared to mine and that means that your address which contains your UserSettings.txt file may be ever so slightly different.

Before making any changes to your UserSettings.txt file make a backup of that file. I suggest that you copy and paste it to your desktop. In the case that you don't like the changes made to your settings, then you will have the backup to get things back to normal.

Copy the settings found in the expanded spoiler box below, then highlight the settings within your user settings folder, paste the settings that you copied from the spoiler box (replacing your original settings within the UserSettings.txt file), and finally save the file.

Notes On the UserSettings.txt File

The UserSettings.txt file becomes updated quite frequently. If you compare this list of user settings from the spoiler to your current user settings, then you will see that there are many current settings that didn't exist during the time that my suggested user settings are from.

Don't worry about that. In my experience, upon launching the game, your user settings file will be updated to include new settings, but any values that you input into the UserSettings.txt file will be the same. You can even go back in and change around those settings to your liking. As an additional note, I think that if you mistakenly have some incompatible user setting, then it will converted into a compatible setting - correct me if I'm wrong here.

Overall

You may be wondering why you should go through the trouble of changing your UserSettings.txt file instead of just using the in game graphic options. The reason for changing the user settings file is because there are some graphical settings that can only be altered from within the user setting file. I noticed this difference when Maw of Lorkhaj was released. When I started playing after that game update, I noted that my armor suddenly had an ugly shine to it which I assumed was impacting my FPS. Luckily for me, a friend of mine suggested that I change my user settings file based on an Imperial City update file that I had stored on my computer from a past PTS. After updating my user settings file, that ugly armor shine disappeared and maximum FPS was achieved.

Play around with your user settings file. You may find some interesting things there that make not just your graphics more desirable, but also change other parts of the game. One example of this is that you can remove the playing of the awful Blade of Woe animation. You can do some super cool stuff this way.

In Summary

I thank you for stopping by and hope that my guide helps your gaming experience out. Feel free to post some screen shots of your brand new Ultra Low™ graphical settings. I would love to know any other cool things that you find hidden within the UserSettings.txt file.

Sincerely,

LT

I’ve been playing minimum for like half a year. It’s very helpful in PvP by providing higher frame-rate and lower input lags. The downside is that you’ll need to adapt to combat despite healthbar and ui’s are still clear and inact; but trust me you’ll be able to dodge crystal, arrows even uppercut while playing the game on such ‘blurry’ graphic setting!

It would be necessary to attach a comparison of FPS between low settings and Ultra Low™ settings. Especially, from PTS with its perfomance improvments.
But thanks for the info. I guess it will be useful for much people.

I would like to offer some additional info.

By playing in fullscreen and lowering your in-game resolution in addition to lowering your subsampling quality, you'll be able to achieve ultra-low resolutions in-game while retaining proper UI scale.

Useful for when you absolutely have to raid on Intel HD Graphics.

I wish there was a way, for PS4 (And Xbox One and New One) to Have this kind of settings. Like PC. I tried changing my settings, on PS4 Pro via in game and console itself.

But PC is A Master Console, I give it that. I only wish it was possible, this work on console. I really want to do the stuff, that I'm unable to do for 2 years. Especially Trials, but this is a really awesome and detailed guide.

Any advice on GPUSmoothing Frames and ReqJobThreads ? I heard previously that you need to tweak these if you want to improve FPS.

Bookmarked these from years ago, and might be relevant (I'm asking since I look to improve my FPS too):

I discovered that trick back when my graphics card melted. Was waiting on my new one to arrive and still wanted to raid.

Of course I didn't stick to that setting lmao; I had it at 720p with low subsampling, and that was enough for the Intel graphical power not to become a framerate bottleneck in raids.

Got my GTX 1050ti, btw; much better than my old GTX 670.

PvP-wise you’d like to enjoy some more kills (from better performing game) rather than better graphics quality.
