Another thread about hiding vampirism!

Being what some see as ugly is not a downside of choosing to be a vampire. Lower health recovery and more vulnerability towards fire damage age the downsides. Being a vampire in stage 1 grants no positive and/or negative buffs what so ever. You are just a face freshly dipped in flour, with warpaint and/or other makeup barely visible. Therefore you are merely a human, yet look like a vampire. Do not come at me with lore when we have Count Verandis Ravenwatch and Lamae Bal that claimes her kin hides among crowns and rags.

Disguises obtainable from quests are pretty cute. They show your character just like you saw it in the character creation. But you do not get the chance to wear any Crown Store cosmetics. No new hairstyle, no cute dwemer goggles or eyelashes. Disguises also hides guild tabard, not just the visual, but for nameplates purpose too.

Skins are another option. Yes, they hide your pale vampire skin, but they hide your skin no matter if you are a vampire or not anyways. Currently several of the skins require DLC/ESO+ and Morrowind expansion. Not only do they require that, but you need a damn good group to clear the content to achieve the skin(s). Besides, who says looking like a character from Tron or a meatball is any better? One of the skins requires a hell of a farm (also DLC/ESO+) with a ridiculous droprate and lootsystem. Twelve people Sloot, not guaranteed the skin to drop, while eighty people are farming with you, is so weird it is funny. I am looking at you Imperial City anniversary event.

Polymorphs are great too. They completely change your character appearance to the unrecognizable. But running around Tamriel looking like Spooky Scary Skeletons all year is nothing for me. The Maelstorm Arena Baron or the 250K Tel Var stones are ok, but not for those that wants to show their armor and/or costume(s).

From a pvp perspective where some people (for odd reasons I do not understand) really needs to know if their opponent is a vampire or not, we have buff trackers on all platforms for creeps like them. Do you really change up your skills because you are facing a vampire??! Now I did read somewhere that the in-game buff trackers only shows your own buffs, not other peoples buff. (Someone correct me here please) And if that actually is the case, just add that toggle. Add so that you can see the buffs other people have. Just make it a toggle, because surely some can live without seeing if their opponent is a vampire. Or a werewolf for that matter.

Looks are clearly important in this game as people spend ages in character creation to customize their character just the way they want it. There is a high demand on changing not just the traits, but on changing armor and weapon styles too, even adding weapon dyes. Therefore vampires and their terrible looks are also important in this perspective.

In the end, all the methods that currently allows you to somehow hide your vampire appearance, is simply avoiding the issue. Vampires look absolutely terrible. We are a pink-purple hue and veiny. We look like Halloween-makeup gone wrong. If you do actually like your vampire appearance, that is great! You rock that look! But I, and many others really, really, really do not like the look. Give us an option to hide our vampire skin, and still be able to show our armor and/or Crown Store cosmetics. If it is a skin from Crown Store only, an option in regular settings, a skin with the level 10 vampire achievement, or some other way (NOT CROWN CRATES, OH GOD PLEASE). I support it. I just want my bis bosmer cuteness back. Hell I would even support werewolf fur dye. Want to be a pink werewolf? Be a pink big dog. :)))))))))

Another post saying “no; this should never happen.” Not unless 1. there are still minor visual tells, such as red eyes, pale skin, or colorless lips (skin-colored), or 2. You look like a vampire while I’m combat, normal otherwise. If that compromise is not good enough, then I remain opposed to this.

I'll say my bit... again. If you have no vampire skills slotted, you should visually be one stage lower than you currently are. So, if you're stage 4, and you have none slotted you'll look like you're at stage 3. If you have nothing slotted, and you're in stage 1, you'll appear mortal, because you're not getting any benefit from being a vampire at that point.

Yes you are? All the real benefits from vampirism are in the passives, which don’t require skills to be slotted.

What a waste of time and distraction from the real problems with the game
I'm a PVE roleplayer concerned about my vampires stage 4 skin tone and keep getting load screens so I came here to distract people from major issues with a rant thread about my characters cosmetic appearance.

I say what I usually do when this matter comes up - there should be an option to hide vampirism, but it should be limited somehow.

Because it IS a classic theme of the vampire clichee - being able to pass for mortal at a casual glance, and only showing their true face when they are ready to put the bite on someone, so to speak... and we DO have the precedents in ESO already with count Ravenwatch -definitely- being in "mortal guise" when you first meet him in Shornhelm...
However, seeing how most vampires in ESO seem to neglect this option, one would assume it has some drawbacks.

My favorite solution would be adding a toggleable skill to the vampire line that lowers the appeartance by one level while in use. Meaning as stage 1, it lets you look completely normal mortal... but you have to give up a skill slot for it, so using it in combat costs you one of your five skill options, which means most would replace it before they go start a fight (or think someone else will start a fight).

Another possibility would be a special ring that vampires can get from a special vampire vendor for the same effect - that way, people would have to give up a set slot for their looks, and again will most likely want to use it out of combat only to avoid the disadvantage it brings in efffect.

And either solution should come with a good reason for vampires to want to keep up their "masquerade" - like a chance for NPCs to recognize them for the bloodsucking fields they are, and scream for the guards instead of dealing with them - say, 20& at appereance stage 1, 40% at stage 2, 80% at stage 3 and automatic at stage 4... (which then this skill/ring would lower one stage, thus giving you a "stage 0" appereance at stage1 with the disguise active, and thus a zero percent chance of being found out)

And also add some "vampire only" clubs (one per alliance, perhaps? Or a shared one that is reachable from several locations?) where all the vamps can go hang out among their own, find willing (or at least well charmed) blood donors, special vampire vendors, maybe some crafting stations for vampire-specific gear... etc. Re-using the area for the initiation quest (with some expansions) would be the logical choice I daresay...

There are options for you to hide it if you really wanted to.. as you've outlined in your op!

I'm not opposed to people hiding their vampirism if that's what they want. I, for one, embrace my vampirism. I like the way my vamps look. They are undead and I want them to look undead. But the real question is........do we have to beat this horse, again?

Haha, if you don't like the look then have you considered not being a vampire? The vamp whining is ridiculous. You're a vampire and you need to look like one, so deal with it. Personally I'd prefer that your character immediately dies if he/she steps into sunlight.

What if the vamp hider came with an icon in the buff/debuff area denoting a disguised vamp? That way you can still tell your opponent is a vamp at a glance and my dark elves can stay dark, my black-furred khajiit doesn't suddenly get white fur, and any redguard I make who might get vampirism doesn't look like they got hit with the skin condition which affected Michael Jackson.

    Everyone wins, right?

(In all honesty, the appearance is the largest reason none of my characters are vamps and why, if I decide to get bit and level vampirism for achievement purposes, every inch of my character's skin will be covered for the duration. Which is rather frustrating to me. What should steer you toward/away from a morph like this should be stats-based. Not "oh-holy-gods-it's-hideous-and-ruining-the-design-I-had-for-my-character.

I'm a big "You do you, insofar as it doesn't hinder others from doing the same" guy. From that perspective, demanding others embrace the ugly (when there are lore-relevant reasons we shouldn't have to) seems far more hindering of others than an optional means to hide your vampirism, still enjoy your character you created and may have added crown store improvements to, and still give an indicator to other players that "Hey, this is a vamp. Kill it with fire.")

    1. There are already ways to hide vampirism, so relying on visuals to identify vampires is not very reliable.
    2. Addons can show, if someone is a vampire or not
    3. In case 2. isn't an option (consoles or whatever), it shouldn't be an issue for ZOS to include the vam/ww "buff" to the default buff tracker.

    1. Choose "fugly little goblin w/o fangs" as race, cause bis! (+700 fugliness)
    2. Become Vampire, cause bis! (+ 500 fugliness)
    3. Complete the hardest content of the game to grind the most fugly sets u can have, cause they r bis! (+100 ~ +500 fugliness)
    4. Obtain fugly skins on the way.

    now u have choices:
    Hist-slime: + 50 fugliness
    Dromathra: + 100 fugliness
    IC-corpse-skin: + 1000 fugliness
Baron-who-crawls-like-a-drunken-Hobo-skin: resets to base fugliness, but than adds another 100.
Shadowsilk Gem: Now u r a creepy little goblin with fangs, it is somewhat of an update.

    Crownstore Costumes:
Add adaptive fugliness, the more revealing, the more fugly.

I do find the "Belkarth Ghost Train" somewhat amusing, it also makes me feel a lot more beautiful than i actually am. IFF going haywire, cause its on the lookout for hideous monsters is somewhat of a downside. "Ah it talked to me, kill it with fire!" is not a good icebreaker aswell. Seeing how ppl manage to ruin femal bosmer looks, does actually hurt.

Still on the fence about hide option. I chose looks over bis. Thus: magchars w/o vampirism, bosmer passives and crafted gear. I do agree tho, the punishment for bis over looks, is very very harsh, while i feel close to unaffected by my choices combatwise. I guess, with free-pick racials and hide vamp option, the population would look very different.
