Adaptive Dye = best idea ever 2

Theoretically, how many crowns would you pay for a dye for your costume/armor that adapted to the scenery you were in...?

if you were in shadow = it went black
if you were in that neon blue coldharbor water, your dye turned the same color...
desert yellow = boom, same color...

that would be so cool!!!

Yes it looks and sounds like a predator fell in a horse manure wagon .

The OP's idea is interesting .

The thing about Kollopi essence is that it's a burnable item and you can carry only one on your person.
It's cool, but running back to the tree to collect one every time you've used it would be taxing. Right?

yeah, I'm pretty wary of anything that automates anything - not a personal criticisim, just.. a general observation - I don't trust automated responses to wildly variable situations - I *Might* want shadowy costume effects during nighttime, or I might prefer something else - hard to guarantee that any particularly large group of people will want one effect or another, so...I generally tend to avoid the impulse to automate anything

    just a statement of principle

I've had one in my characters' inventories for ages. Click it, it's on. Click it again, it's off. Doesn't get used up. If you have one that is "expended upon use" and goes away, that sounds like a bug.

Nah. Adding a dye that your and everyopne elses computer has to calculate anew every second does not exactly sound like a good idea. it sounds like a lag-inducing idea!

What I would much rather see instead would be... pattern dyes.

Dyes that apply a pattern together with the color(s).

Like... Striped patterns for those stylish adventurers! Floral patterns for those flower power adventurers! Plaid patterns for those scottish adventurers! Spiderweb pattern for those drow-wannabe adventurers! Camo patterns for those *** adventurers! Skull patterns for those goth adventurers! Polka dot patterns for... uhm... does anyone wear polka dots out of their free will anyhow?

No, you're correct. I ran into a creature and it vanished on hit...because it's obviously an appearance item.
    My mistake :)

I use it in BGs and duels all the time. Have only had one, have never needed another. I wouldn't use it in PvE though..

It only disappears when you are hit if you are fighting enemies in the area the quest is in. Other than that its permanent everywhere else

The problem with an adaptive dye is that it would have to constantly gather, translate, and transmit data about your surroundings, rather than just responding to an existing source point. It also wouldn't be a uniform effect at first, as there would have to be numerous data-collection points that aren't detecting the exact same thing. So there would have to be real-time blending and correction.

Something manageable in a single player game, but a lot more complex in an online game.

I'm not sure you can collect the Kollopi disguise on the same character if you lose it, as it's not mandatory to complete the quest like some of the other ones are (Frostedge Bandit, for example).

I'd be more worried about the framerate cost than the dollar cost.

You would have full guilds wearing that dye in cyrodiil just to lag people out.
