Is Battlegrounds any different from AvA?

And I'm not talking about format.

I don't PvP in general, because if you don't use THE meta build, have all the special addons, and run with a big group, you're dead. Constantly. I play DC so no, there aren't any big zergs to run around most of the time.

I get that battlegrounds is small groups, but is it any different? If you just pop in and want to play a few rounds for fun, but don't have a meta PvP build, miats, etc, you're just going to be dead the whole time, right?

For all those saying "just make a meta build" - I don't like them. The playstyle isn't me, and a PvP build isn't a priority for me. I'd like to be able to play ocasionally, but again, dead, revivie, ride back, dead, repeat, gets old. L2P? Yeah, don't really care enough to.

The only true worries you'll have are ...

    - No CP
    - Premade 4 man teams.
    - Teammates chasing rabbits.

If you stay close together you'll generally have a chance to be competitive but you have to understand that you are potentially taking a group of YMCA basketball players into an away game at the Golden State Warriors. Even if you are an amazing player those will be tough odds.

So, in general it's a good time, but you could very easily be put into a bad spot.

Edit: don't worry about the meta. As long as you're reasonably well equipped in good CP 160 gear you'll be fine. Not having a meta build won't be why you win or not nearly to the level of your opponent's teamwork.

BG's to me share nothing in common with AvAvA on the whole. I thought it was a completely different experience.

It requires a character made to do them IMO.

I disagree that you need a character just for BGs but the removal of CP will create holes in your normal set up so a few adjustments would certainly be worth looking into.

BGs are so much more fun than cyrodiil. i dont have to worry about zergs, playing horse simulator and hoping and praying i get take or defend keeps.

This is where there is action 24 7, the moment you die, u spawn back in and into the action.

but if you queue alone, i can see frustration as you have a good chance of getting scrubs on your team and the other teams made up of skilled friends.

Im a 99perc pve player and bg is the way to go for pvp, a lot of fun

I like running relics in CTR since it doesn't require actually entering combat - in fact, your goal is to avoid combat. Have a screenshot somewhere of where I went fast and got all 5. :D Not to say that I hate combat, but I like feeling like I can contribute in other ways than straight up KDR.

I'm really a fan of clear objective-based gameplay, which Battlegrounds offers moreso than Cyrodiil. Instead of lofty goals of "win the campaign, capture keeps/resources", it's very clear-cut and brief.

@THEDKEXPERIENCE summed it up pretty well above. You don't have to play a meta build but you do need to spend the time/gold to maximize your gear as best you can. You could also use a few duels to make sure you know how to

    1) stay alive when someone starts wailing on you (and how to recover and turn the table on them)

    And

    2) a combo/rotation of offensive skills that puts out enough damage to kill a player without wasting all your resources.

I've seen people in pve builds do decently in BGs.

So no, you don't need a meta pvp build for BGs.

However, the meta for building for BGs is to lean towards the tanky side of things so that you can be more effective in CTR, chaosball, and to a lesser extent DOM and you won't melt when focused in DM
