Returning Player, Looking For Some MagDK Help (PVP)

I just came back to the game, last time I played was during the thieves guild dlc. I know a lot has changed and it will take time to figure everything out but I have a few sets I used to play with and wondering if they are still viable for now until I relearn everything and get stuff to craft new sets if need be.

My play style on the DK has normally been S/B and Resto or S/B both bars. I do prefer resto on back bar.

Monster Sets I have for DK are

Val Skoria Helms:
Light: Infused
Medium: Well-Fitted

Val Skoria Shoulders:
Heavy: Well Fitted
Heavy: Inpen
Light: Divines

Blood Spawn Helms:
Heavy: Reinforced
Light:Infused
Light: Well fitted

Blood Spawn Shoulders:
Light: Reinforced
Medium: Inpen

So I'm curious now as to if most are going Heavy or Light.

Currently the sets I have on my DK are Black Rose, light Kag Hope set up and heavy Tava's Favor set. For S/B I have 2 piece Torgs and Endurance set.

Jewelry I'm using is the Willpower Arcane set.

Are any of those sets viable in any way or are they still decent enough to use for the time being. I can't make anything that needs 9 trains unlocked as I only have 8 unlocked for armor lol.

Any help would be appreciated, just trying to get back into this but seems like I have a lot to re learn in this game, it's a bit overwhelming lol

Sorry I cant help much but maybe to do a search "pvp magdk" or something like that. Usually works for me.

I do look on youtube, but most people these days only put up videos assuming you have every BiS piece which I don't have haha so it's harder to follow those builds.

I agree that can be a problem. If you are just now coming back after a long break I believe crafted gear would be your best bet for getting started or if you have gold buying gear or having someone craft gear is always an option as you may already know.

I believe both monster sets you have are not horrible for magdk in one setup or another to get you started. Willpower jewelry is still good for the most part and as for crafted gear Shackle Breaker, Julianos, Seducer come to mind.

The gear you currently have will suffice for now I would imagine but the better builds will be a grind for the gear you do not have or finding a crafter for sets you can not make.

If you are on XB NA I can help with crated gear, have a DCLs and 9 traits. Good luck out there.

Thx for the advice, I'm on PS4 N/A but thx for the offer. I'll use what I have. I'll have to go farm more ore and stuff to make new gear sets.

Rest assured you can still get monster helms/shoulders and gold jewelry on the weekends. It is not always helms could just be shoulders one week and visa versa.

Hey bud. You really can't go wrong as a light armored mDK with Valkyn and Julianos. Depending on your skill- you can also solo nCOA1 to get Burning Spellweave jewelry. You can actually permacloak (using a mNB if you have one) though vCOA1 to get purple gear from chests. Just make sure you have 75 points into the correct Thief constellation.

Another alternative is Silks of the Sun. It's a pretty reliable set.

Most mDKs will dual wield (or SnB) on one bar and have a staff on the other bar. So, you could do:

    -2 valkyn, 5 Julianos, 5 BSW
-2 valkyn, 5 Julianos, 5 Silks of the Sun
-2 valkyn, 5 Kagrenac (because you already have it) and BSW/Sun

Another interesting set is Flame Blossom. I ran it with my guild in PVP the other day. The extra spell penetration is definitely noticeable!
Want to enjoy the game more? Try both PvP (crybabies) and PvE (carebears). You'll get a better perspective on everyone's opinion.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to see how much the Sun set sell for on Ps4. How does Juliano's hold up with the sustain now? I haven't gotten the chance to test it out much but seems like your mana and stam drop much faster now.

You'll want to run regen on your jewelry and/or run Witchmother's Potent brew (a drink that increases health, magicka, and magicka regen).

This is achievable. The BSW is easy yo farm in coa1 if you want to. Its quite survivable with very good damage output.

I managed to buy all 5 pieces to Silk of The Sun set, so that's a good start. What is coa1?

For me, when building an mDK I always look at survivability first. The easiest way to be tanky on an mDK is with "permablock" the easiest way to get that is with lots of sturdy. Now, you've given up crit resist by running sturdy so to get that back into your build you run impregnable armor.

At this point we have covered your defense and now we can look to add sustain. Sets like Desert Rose, alteration mastery, and seducer are all good choices to contribute to your magika sustain.

Now you've got an undaunted 2pc to pick. For magika characters I always run either skoria or Bloodspawn. On mDK I particularly like skoria since it supplements your burst a lot.

The important thing to remember is that if a damage set doesn't give at least 525 unbuffed spell damage to all abilities with 100% uptime then you are better off running a sustain set and using jewels for spell damage.
