Trait Change: Good, Bad or Indifferent?

I know people do complain about their rng a lot when it comes to grinds for getting their desired gear sets with the traits of desire but will this result in players running the content less? Will it lead frustration of longer ques? It's always frustrating to not have your goal object drop, but if you can get it easily- then what? What will drive you to press onward once you have all the gear you want and everything is perfectly optimized, what content will you focus on after that?

Just wanted to hear what the diverse views were on this?

    Good.

It's the end of the vMA grind for a lot of players.

What would be your plan once you have all the optimized gear as you want it?

End game PvP, PvE, and housing ... or just to be able to spend time on the more enjoyable aspects of the game.

and really any weapon for drop sets. Weapons have had significantly lower drop rate throughout the game. Really the worst part of the game is getting good weapons, vMA or otherwise.

Also, it requires running content to get what we need to change the trait.

Trait change requires a component that you have to get by farming veteran-level dungeons, by the way, so it's still more grinding and more farming. It'll make getting a weapon with the trait you want a little easier to get, but it'll still take some hard work and more grind.

Who said the token grind will be "easy"? It will just put a cap on grinding (you'll know exactly how many tokens you need for something). You can bet that re-traiting will require a metric *** ton of tokens though. In fact, the grind will actually become more difficult as you'll need to run vet content instead of normal.

People grind simple content for gear right now (normal dungeons and trials). This creates problems such as the one in this thread.

What endgame players should be running is endgame content. The current system disincentives that and pushes you towards speed running simple content.

    Thats a good thing, though.
The grind might be still huge, but you can see the end of it, which is not the case with the current system.

The grind for weapon traits was wholly unreasonable and I really don't think anybody, us or ZOS, was actually served by it. Grinding is always a double edged sword for developers as it can keep players in game more but also enrage them to quit totally. vMA weapons in particular were clearly over the enrage line. From what I here the special stone for trait change will also be a boss drop so that kind of provides a little bit of enticement to grind without perhaps the rage inducing 1/144 vMA sharpened flame staff drop rate of past times.

Crafting also has another value so that is shiny as well.

I should say that I don't think the change will bring players flocking back or anything though. Most of the HotR changes were positive and had little effect. The fully charged heavy mess in combat is fun sucking enough to outweigh a multitude of good balance and quality of life decisions.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

its still good that theres still a grind, it would be way too easy if you could turn in tokens and get the exact item in the exact set in the exact trait. they made a good middle ground, im hoping its a guaranteed drop on the last boss, the transmutation crystals :)
