Can old soul gems be filled?

I have a stack of lesser and minor soul gems on a character. I've just been ignoring them, but today I tried to fill them, I gave the minor soul gems to a lvl 19 and soul traped some stuff, but it didn't work.

OC_Justice✭✭✭If these can be used as house decorations on tables, I would say you have a some what rare item. At the very least a discontinued item. I could be wrong though.0
