Fix Your Server

The constant lag, the consistent high ping >200+, often shooting to 300-900 is just asinine. [snip] I enjoy this game when it plays nice, but that's not often enough. At this time, I will never spend another dime on this game. Not like anything of what I spent went to anything useful in regards to stability. Just the usual useless cosmetics.

I know I'm not the only one who has voiced concern in regards to the performance of the server. The sad thing is, I'm not sure if ZOS even cares what people say or report.

[snip] Constant downtime for "Server Maintenance" with no changes server stability, frequent lag spikes, lack of transparency from the company, plethora of game bugs and exploits...I mean the list goes on.

The games stability has been questionable since launch in 2014. It was definitely worse then, but you would think after 3+ up years they would have gotten their act together.

I've played weekends and week days when cryodiil is full and locked up I will say only thing I really haven't done is 12 man dungeons. Other then that even last festival I had issue one day but that was whole server had issue. I play and see many people on and have no problems.

As to the fanboy well you little kids need get new material and new computers and better connect speed cause it's getting old and so is your continuous bitching about same old thing, move on to another MMO if you can't handle it ladies, and/or find something else to waste your time on.

Well, I never have lag, or performance issues. My ping is around 30-40ms (in crowded places like 50-60).

Lag isn’t a result of a problem with your computer; it’s a result of a problem with your network. It may be a result of the game’s servers experiencing problems, but it’s also likely that a network problem is occurring somewhere between your computer and the servers. If you’re far away from the game’s servers – perhaps you’re in Europe playing a game on North American servers – your latency (often referred to as your “ping” time) may be high.

Lag often refers to the delay caused by consistently high latency (also referred to as high pings), but you can also experience “lag spikes” where everyone else in the game appears to pause in place, followed by their characters teleporting or racing to new locations as the game receives updates.

If the lag does occur for all players on the server, but only in certain areas of the map then it is local-lag. This can be caused by a number of things in that area such as a large amount of tile/block entities (the same applies to modded tile/block entities) a build up of general entities, such as mobs at a mob grinder/farm or a large amount of item drops/arrows/xp orbs, or flowing liquids such as lava (or modded flowing liquids - Water is rarely an issue). Reducing these can help with local-lag.

Or unoptimized textures. Think of, a 50x39 texture that only is used for 10x13. The file of that texture remains big. But it could be decreased and optimized.

    Physical Geographic Distance:
If a player is geographically far away from the people they are playing with, it can take a long time for data to get there and back. Players that are playing outside of their geographic region’s “prime-time” may find themselves matched with players that live very far away.

It is not widely known, it is widely complained about. The ones who are affected harshly- like yourself and yes many others- like to complain alot and be loud while doing so. Just because you have issues very often does not mean everyone does.

I personally have a decent experience in all end game pve and in most pvp. Yes the game turns into a slideshow for me when more than 40 players are in the area in pvp, but i know of people who are mostly unaffected in the same area at the same time. Servers may be bad at times, but they arent the only issue.

Try optimizing your network/connection to the game first and not resort to proclaiming someone has lied based on only your personal experiences without proper knowledge of theirs

True, if people are having big issues they should download the free version of Pingplotter (if they are on PC that is) and then can see where the delay is occurring. (in my experience in games it is usually a mixture sometimes it is clearly the game servers end, other times it is one of the hops in between)
Yes the game turns into a slideshow for me when more than 40 players are in the area in pvp, but i know of people who are mostly unaffected in the same area at the same time.

I do not know how ESO is setup, but in a lot of games with mass scale PvP everyone is not on the same physical server, which can lead to different levels of lag issues for different people even if they are right next to each other, because player 1 may be on the server with many people all in combat in the zerg (so their server is under strain and lags), but player 2 can be right next to him but on a different server with less people (or less people in the zerg so less calculations) and can experience less lag issues, for the same reason it is why in a lot of games even if you are 1v1 miles from anyone else you can get lag when zergs collide the other side of the map, because you are in the same physical server as they are.

    Platform? Server? Location?

    Internet connection wired or wireless?

    System specs?

    Traceroutes?

It's completely pointless reporting performance issues without mentioning those things. You could be playing on a decent desktop PC a couple of miles from the server with a wired connection or you could be playing on a handheld device with a wireless connection and integrated graphics thousands of miles from the server. Who knows?

No indeed, but it does say in bold letters on the box "Persistent internet connection required" and nowhere on the box does it guarantee perfect performance. I'm sure you're sufficiently computer-savvy to know that playing on either the EU or NA server from South Africa isn't going to guarantee you the smoothest of performances.

It depends on the network, it's well established here that there have been major network issues affecting the NA servers, for example.

I'm not saying there are never any server issues, of course there are, but there are also networking issues relating to routing which will be different for different games, and people's machine specs will also play a part. Location is also critical and whether problems are at the server or the user's end, or somewhere inbetween, players in South Africa and Australia are obviously going to suffer more than those players living in the same part of the world as their server.

I find the severs to be much improved from two years ago. There has been good improvements from a few different patches.

The biggest issue to me is large keep battles have big latency(Often), but there is a lot going on in one very small area. Also the amount of game drops that occur after you take a keep, after a large battle is still pretty consistent.

Honestly if ZOS could find out why we get dropped after taking a keep (Receiving AP) or receiving a defensive tick I think that would make the Cyro experience way better IMO.

I can deal with server lag and expect it. Networks over a long stretch are not consistent enough right now where ZOS can make all these adjustments to make the servers run close to perfect.

So I upgraded to an i5 7600k JUST FOR THIS GAME( witcher 3 ran at 60 fps on my i5 2400 on ultra) and guess how much fps I got in cyro? 24 :D

I've played ESO since PS4 launch and can testify that the LAG has increased with every update/upgrade. I too live in South Africa. Because I live in South Africa I'm used to distance to server lag. Like I said, I played since launch, back then I was on a 10meg ADSL line. Back then the LAG was so small that it was not an issue. Now I'm on a 40meg VDSL line and the LAG is horrible.
The thing is that with you players living close to sever with your low ping (<100ms), if the sever have LAG and or LAG spikes you barely notice or feel it. (your ping <100ms plus server LAG of let say 250ms= less that 350ms = still very much playable) as to we with distance LAG (our ave ping 250ms plus server LAG of 250ms= 500ms) so its clear that when server have LAG the high ping gamers suffer the most.
I must be honest and say I have buttered this example a lot. The truth is the server LAG and spikes is much higher than 250ms so we suffer much more than in the example.

How come my internet line can handle most other online games without LAG?
My son plays online and although I've put him on a wifi connection (through 2 walls) with restrictions in speed to only 10meg of the 40meg line still have better game play than me on a lan cable with no restrictions in speed. Why then do I lag but he does not? So vokken gat vol om met die kak te sukkel!!
My love for ESO is morphing into HATE, but hey it must be a bug or L2Love issue!!!

Have you done any traceroutes to see if there is any obvious problem between you and the game server? ZOS have been able to resolve some such routing issues where they have been reported to them but people tend not to bother to run the tests and prefer just to assume it's the server at fault - which it may well be, but clearly not always, and without tests it's impossible to say in any individual case.

    PC launch player here.

Personally, i changed ISP and get better ping, though its not perfect all the time. I get as low as 90 fps. Even when my internet is good i experience a lot of input delay such as skills firing off late and dying before the health bar reaches 0, group or solo especially VMA.

Aside from network, its no secret that zos puts little effort in communicating and interacting with the player. Ive seen plenty of both constructive and non-constructive threads completely ignored.

We used to get "the road ahead" updates consistently through the year.
