    This is a joke right?

You aren't using your skills to kill. Look at your bar. Put something on there to help. Also you never switch to your second bar that I saw.

Weave abilities into light attacks using animation cancelling and you will do alot more dps then just spaming heavy attacks with the odd taunt thrown in, even as a tank. Heavy attacks do less dps then light attacks and their main purpose is to restore resources, using a sword and board you're gonna restore some stamina so its useless to do when you have nearly a full pool of stam. Unless you have some set piece that benefits them or you were just doing it to drag the video out.

    My second bar skills are:
    Chains
    Heroic slash
    Inner Rage
    Talons
    Invigorating drain

I find that using basic attacks give me a higher DPS than using all those skills.

That looks like a style of play problem. You are basically shielding and taunting.

Light attacks will probably do more damage, yeah. Unfortunately, i have the tiniest hint of carpal tunnel, so spamming those left clicks on a console controller kinda aggravates my tendons a bit. I'd rather not push my luck!

On my healer alt though, I have 8 - 10k DPS. So this would have been no problem on that toon.

Not much more damage than a heavy attack. It doesnt buff my other attacks unlike the taunt, so no point in using it for DPS really. In dungeons, I use heroic slash for ulti gain mainly and reducing their damage by 15%. Not much use for me here.

You don't need to be at full defensive capacity for overland PVE against wolves and cats. You could be naked and still not die from the wolves.
You should use and slot dual wield or 2 handed skills on your back bar when you are soloing.
Then switch back to tank when its actually needed.

You still want an basic dps setup for overland questing / skyshards, 5K dps works well enough as long as you have some AoE. 15K is overkill as it kills mobs in 2 seconds.

An DD setup for bosses who can not be taunted is nice anyway.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I would suggest slotting a bow on the back bar. Even if you just use it to put down some AoE that will help. Doing pledges there are a few fights where a tank having a ranged attack really helps the group so having bow skills can sometimes come it handy. If you don't want to go with the bow level up duel wield. It will help a lot when solo and again there are some times in group content where the boss can't be taunted so you will want to contribute DPS along with crowd control.

I'm really bad at weaving in light or heavy attacks and sometimes miss my bar swaps so try to keep my rotations simple. If I start on back bar with a buff and AoE then switch bars and start my normal attacks it helps. I practice keeping my AoE up all the time but for most overland stuff you really don't need to.

what's the point of tanking overland mobs? I'd adjust the skill bars/gear to kill enemies and save your tank build for when you want to do instanced dungeons or trials.

When you are tanking that setup might work great but when soloing you need to completely change your setup and style of attack.

You're right! I used to slot a bow for vWGT planar inhibitor boss for the portals. Unfortunately on vet, the portals still have too much health for me to take down quickly enough. The HotR patch hits consoles on 29th August, and they've reduced the health of the portals on vet, so hopefully that will finally allow me to complete vWGT at least once!

I will experiment with dual wield to see if I can up my DPS a bit for overland mobs. Since I'm always in the search tool for dungeons, I don't want to have a gear that takes too much time to switch up in case I get pulled into a dungeon suddenly.

I believe on PC you have add ons that switch skills/gear with the click of a button? I'm jealous :(

OP, you can get yourself some gear for a change and make a ''questing/overland'' sorta build when you go skyshard hunting ;)

If you don't have other weapon lines leveled, it's fine too, you can still go sword and board.

Just to throw in some ideas - Tremorscale monster, Hunding's rage crafted set and something like Viper or Knight Errant dungeon set would help you kill overland mobs faster with just your sword and board :) Also slot Igneous Weapons to buff up your damage a little. But Knight Errant and Tremor is a nice combination to give your taunt more damage, it's kinda PvP thing mostly but who cares when you just want to kill these tigers guarding the shiny stone quicker.

Yeah they have an add on for that but I haven't used it myself. Not sure why I don't use it. My main Templar always carries five sets of armor so I don't have to go to the bank when I get asked to help with something. I often stay in my heavy PvP gear when I am just goofing off overland and switching three skills over on one bar will usually be more than enough to get through fights kinda quick. When I am doing random normals most the time the group is willing to wait for a minute while I switch the skills back.

Full Charged Heavy Attack > Pierce Armor > Bash . All cancelled into each other . That's how you get most single target DPS on a PvE Tank without reking your stamina . If you have a lightning staff on back bar , Blockade and heavy attack does the highest AOE DPS . That's what I do on my tank while running around in Overland maps .

You have talons so you're a DK; go in and talon mobs in place, use inhale for an aoe, taunt and heroic slash, followed by spiked/hardened armor. Then go into your heavy attack stuff if you want. Use the tools at your disposal and make your life as a tank much, much easier.

He deserves such an experience if he is going to run solo through NPCs and be built as a full tank. Does not take much to slot some damage skills. Every class has some and we can always slot a different weapon on that bar.

    It is a choice.

I use this setup on my tank for most overland content:

    5 Hundings Rage, heavy
2 Engine Guardian or Tremorscale, heavy
3 Agility, 1 weapon damage, 1 Stam cost reduction, 1 Stam recovery
    2 Red Mountain

Skills: Igneous shields, vigor, heroic slash, pierce armor, venomous claws, Dawnbreaker ult

2H back bar: Igneous weapons, spike armor, caltrops, brawler, executioner, stripper pole ult.

Not the greatest DPS, but will do the trick without messing with your champion points.

    Of course I like steak. I'm a Nord, aren't I?

I just keep DPS gear on my tank for doing open world stuff... CP optimization is overkill, but if you at least have Julianos or Hundings things die faster.

Heck..caltrops and/or talons while spamming heavy attacks would help you out better and no gear change needed. Use that second bar, it is your friend! If you are worried about the CT, and you are shard collecting or farming, just change your skills out a bit on the main bar with one or two AOE's and you would be in like Flynn. Overland shard hunting and farming is the perfect time to try out different skills.
