Stam Character Question

I don't want to go right out and ask "Which stam char is better"(in case of course there's a true answer to this), but out of the different character classes... what are some benefits/downsides to each? I've heard both Sorc and DK are good stam chars which Sorc has better survivability while DK has better AOE. Don't know much about Nightblades other than I hear they're squishy.

If there IS a best stam class, then please let me know but I assume there are ups and downs to each. Thanks in advance!

Honestly tomorrow there may be a new BEST stam class. Play the one that feels right to you. Plus best can depend of course on PvE vs PvP

I like sorc with a 2H, go figure. I'm also having fun with a Warden of all things.

Right, I knew there was the possibility of a HUGE array of answers, just trying to figure out how each one plays before I pick one. I was also told StamPlar was another good one... now I'm between StamDK, StamSorc and StamPlar...

Sure no problem. I don't do PvP(and don't plan to for a while). At some point I'm sure I'll get into Trials and currently do Vet dungeons and solo world bosses no issues with my CP480 pet sorc. Does that help?

I was told NB is hard to keep alive, Templar is too iffy now with potential changes upcoming and DK has the hardest rotation, while Sorc is the easiest character to play. Also was told they do roughly the same amount of damage, it's just a matter of what skills and rotation it takes to achieve that. Any of that correct?

Umm nope, not really, this is all just from personal experience (my own and others') and from testing really, and some is just kinda accepted as the general "rule" (Sorc having best survivability, DK having easiest rotation, NB being a *** to play right, etc.).

You'll get more info from just by playing all of these classes, you'll start to get enough experience on each one to be able to give an accurate judgement of each class by yourself. But it takes time and practice, and its best not to be biased, because that obviously clouds judgement and then you get some of the strangest and nonsensical claims made on these forums lol
(You may be able to find something that describes the strengths and weaknesses of each class in detail, but thing is that this kind of stuff is suceptible to change every single patch).

If you want to start a stamina class and don't know which one to pick, just take the same class as your current main character (I think you said Sorc) and use that, because you'll be already familiar with the passives and the class skills.

You could also check out Alcast and FearTurbo's videos, they usually talk quite a lot about strengths and weaknesses of classes, so definitely check those out to get a more accurate idea.

This is a cut and paste from similar questions I've been asked on this. I wrote it for newer players, but it's still applicable. In addition to my notes, read alcast's builds for each class stam variation at alcasthq.com. He does a good summary up front that covers how they play.

I have vets in each class. This is my experience of how they play:

Nightblades: the pro here is stealth an insane single target damage, con they're squishy. This is my personal favorite class, but playing them well can be as much a mastery of fighting style as builds and skills. A successful nightblade dodges, hides, confuses and stabs in the back...pve or pvp. A NB can't take every hit or they're toast, so they have to learn to dodge as much as they can while mitigating hits they do take with skills that return health. They will use a lot of class skills, then also dual wield, with 2h or bow back bars. Their fighting style should be a little more martial arts than boxing.

Sorcs: I will admit that I love my sorc too. These guys keeps some of the NB single target damage, but being in insane AOEs and some good resistance. The pro is that they're a very powerful, high damage class. Con, they only have a few sorc class skills that apply to them...as a result, there are fewer viable setups for them. Still, formplayers who like the weapon skills and ultimates, sorcs rock these and bring in a few sorc skills that are simply amazing. I fight my sorc a little like my NB...but on my NB's most aggressive in-your-face moments.

Templars: the pro here is a large tool box of really fun skills and powerful buffs. Con, Templars do significantly less damage than the above two and they can have resource management issues (requiring the sacrifice of slots for dps improvement). Because of their core jabbing skill, they are way more in your face than the others. This is a class where 1h can come in and be beneficial in certain builds.

Wardens: I'm still refining my vet Warden, but I have a good idea how they'll play when maxed out. They are tankier than all the above owing to some really powerful class abilities. They can also deal some decent damage. As the designers said on an ESO Live, Wardens are designed with these attacks that work together and sort of build up. Unlike some other classes that might spam a single ability, Wardens are designed to proc one after the other in order to build momentum and then unleash hell on an enemy. Once a player learns how to get everything to land on a target at the same time, these guys are lethal. They have ample class skills to choose from, and van make good melee or range builds. One nice feature is their access to major brutality and savagery via class skills, freeing them from mandatory weapon choices. A warden can be a double bow build, for example...or whatever they want.

Dragonknights: needless to say, the tanks of ESO. This is their big pro...they are very hard to kill. The con is that they do significantly less damage than other classes. For many players, this can make them boring. Still, they have a great tool kit with some useful class abilities. My advice to newer players is to start by being a dps DK and later developing your tanking skills. A lot of players roll a DK, suit them in heavy tanking gear, then they're boooooooooooring in all the low level stuff. Start a DK in medium armor and sets that boost dps...this will really help them move through content, and you'll still be pretty darn tanky. DKs should wear a couple of pieces of heavy and level the line, but they don't need to become true tanks until they're vets, at which point they'll have Champion Points to help buff up their Dps.


BecAuse your new toon will "inherit" a giant bucket of CPs, they're going to be able to overcome half their weakness regardless. A NB would be way tougher, while a DK would hit twice as hard.

Also, having the CPs is nice because this plus one tamriel will give you a good idea how they'll play as vet as early as level 10-15. Roll your first choice and see how you like it. None of these classes will play dramatically different at higher levels. The one exception might be NB...they do start with a ton of magic skills that hit pretty weak, but morph to stam versions that hit like a truck. Just look over the class skill lines to see which might get ten times better with morphs for any class you roll. The designers are bad about making too many skills start as magic.
