As of the Horns of the Reach patch, ZOS implemented a GREAT feature in allowing each player to personally choose what colors both friendly and enemy ground effects appear as. If you have not yet heard of this functionality, it is located in the settings Gameplay tab, under "Combat: Custom Colors."
I have been loving this new feature, and wanted to provide feedback and begin a discussion regarding potential improvements to this feature.
I think two great next steps for Custom Colors would be to provide the ability to do the following:
- WHITELIST or BLACKLIST certain effects. A major culprit of this is the Templars Ritual of Retribution. While it is great to see things like an enemy Eye of the Storm or a boss's AoE swing, large AoEs would benefit from the opportunity to view it or not. An example of this system is the addon S'rendarr, which allows you to use a buff tracker with Whitelist/Blacklist buffs. I am not sure how easy this would be to implement, but I think it would be a great feature!
- Changing color on certain effects on an effect-by-effect basis. If it is possible, it would be great to have deadly skills (Eye of the Storm, a boss's nasty cleave) with greater brightness/colors, while less scary things are different.
I am not an expert on API or implementation of features, but I think if these two options were possible it would make the Custom Colors feature even better. Anyone have thoughts on additional functionality that could be added, or feasibility for these suggestions?
mDK will rise again.
