Only been a nightblade for an hour and this pop up is already annoying the life out of me, every single time I cast cloak it happens, is there any way to turn it off?

    Have you tried turning it off and on again?

    In your settings, is "Attack Innocents" on?

    I've run into this, where cloak thinks it's a targeted ability, so if you're accidentally pointing at an NPC, that setting blocks it.
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
    "If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

    Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."

    Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
    Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
    Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."

    Have you got Prevent Attack Innocents turned ON

    Try it with no NPCs around you, if it still happens report it in game

    Two options exist for players: Turn off the Prevent Attacking Innocents feature in settings, or be sure you are not targeting an NPC while casting it.
    Two options exist for devs: fix cloak, or "fix cloak" like they do in most major patches.

    This has been a bug since Morrowind release and I never turn on prevent attacking innocents.
    Doesn't matter where you are or what is around you, if you cast cloak it says the can't cast ability message.
    Cloak works fine just a nuisance bug.

    how can you be a true nightblade with "dont att innocents" toggled on?

    Well I do have prevent attacking innocents on and it was happening out in the open with none about but it seems to have stopped all of a sudden, no idea why.

    But there's a different error message for when you can't cast something because of the "attack innocents" option. And I know that because I get it sometimes when I try (and fail) to cast Rapid Maneuvers in a town. :|

    And the Warden healing shrooms. The game sometimes prevents a cast of a 100% heal-only ability because innocents.

    I also get the Rapid Maneuvers issue. It's been a bug for months. Kinda irritates me, as I just want to get through town, but I happened to be LOOKING RIGHT AT SOMEONE when I want to book it.

    It's like the hallway monitor in elementary school. "DON'T RUN! I SEE YOU TRYING TO RUN! DON'T YOU DO IT!"

    It'd be funny if it weren't so irritating...

    As others have pointed out the prevent attacking innocents also hinders using non damaging skills when an innocent is in your reticle. Zos is aware of that since it has been more than 2 years and seems to have chosen to not be concerned.

    yeah - i see it all the time - followed closely with the "cuz your dead" explanation...

    Funny, in towns it doesn't happen at all, can look right at innocents and cast it, seems to a problem related to enemies being nearby.
