vMA Practice Mode

I'd really love to have a practice mode for vMA where you can select which stage you'd like to play. You wouldn't earn a reward at the end and XP could even be turned off. I think it would allow people to hone in on the trouble spots without needing to go through the whole thing over and over again. Players would get to focus on the mechanics of each stage without being bombarded with the mechanics of every stage.

Maybe the merchant dude could be in charge of all that. I mean it's in their best interest that people complete it, story-wise and doesn't seem like it would be all that time consuming for devs to implement since all the content needed already exists.

@SirAndy I get what you're saying... but I also get what the OP is saying. nMA is too easy to be a decent practice for VMA. It would be nice ot be able to play JUST the round you have the most issues with

Normal doesn't at all prepare you for veteran mode. You can basically ignore all mechanics because they don't kill you and the adds are quite non-threatening. Also, you still need to go through the whole thing.

Yep. It's not too much different mechanically speaking either. And practicing vMA is pretty much dying constantly until you figure out how to not do that anymore. I believe my first stage 5 attempt at CP305 caused me about 60 deaths and i wanted to ram my head through my television.

I'm not against this idea actually, although I don't think it is a really needed feature, but if it was implemented then it should be conditional and only be unlocked after a player has a first full completing of Vma and be character bound.

To clarify a bit, I've completed vet tons of times and have been trying for my flawless. An actual practice mode would help people like me a lot focus on the harder rounds while also giving newer players a chance to learn the mechanics better. I agree that dying over and over again is great at teaching you to get better. That's how I learned. But when you want to focus on say just stage 5 or 9 you have to run the whole thing over and over again just to get to those rounds.

I also think there should be a requirement that you finish normal mode before vet practice is unlocked.

Just stop right before you kill the final boss of the arena/round you are practicing.

You can practice any particular round over and over again this way.
If you leave MA and come back later (not sure how long each arena takes to reset) you will restart with round 1 of that particular arena.

Not exactly what you want, but serves the purpose. You just have to restrain yourself :)

Seems like for horns of the reach, nearly all vma weapons will be obsolete except for maelstrom bow and maybe maelstrom 2h, gg, rip to all sold their souls for perfect weps

It saves the arena if you exit it. I went directly to vet as I've heard normal is too easy to learn anything from it. Done the first 8 arenas on my Stam DK but was horrible, took me 14h to learn all the mechanics. Couldn't beat the last boss. Switched to mag Sorc took me 1.5h to reach the boss. Still practicing that fight to get it done though. Came very close on several occasions. It's hard since I haven't played much as DD and I don't just need to learn the mechanics but memorize rotations and also learn good resource management and survival skills as well along the way. I've actually taken a break from group content until I get good at it, meaning under an hour run time on all 4 of my chars.

That's the problem with all normal modes in dungeons and trials. They are so easy that you won't learn anything from it. They should slightly increase the difficulty to prepare people for the veteran versions.

Normal mode in this game is a very good teacher in most instances. You just need to not ignore the mechanics in normal like you wouldn't in vet, and learn from it. You know, like practice. I bet you money if I told my baseball coach (generic example) that I don't want to swing in proper form in practice because I could just lazily hit the ball and run, that's on me for half heartedly learning. I'd do much better if I didn't ignore mechanics cause I can get away with it in practice.

Bet you money the ball isn't getting lobbed in games, and that first base isn't at half distance either.

Regarding the OP, I'd like this to practice trouble areas. +1

Why not, but make practice mode so you won´t earn any exp or rewards from it and I´m fine with that. And make it so that you actually have to complete the stage to practice on it.

Yeah no rewards and no XP just pure practice. I don't personally think you should have to complete it on vet first though. Normal run all the way through? Yes. You'll get the skin, title, and unlock practice mode. Then the player can't peek ahead to see what's coming before they ever get to it. If it required a completion first it would only help the people going for flawless or improving their scores, like myself. It would probably get more use if players working towards their first completion could also use it.

This sounds like a cool idea. Throw in a co-op mode with swappable loot between you and a friend and I'd always be playing VMA

I've been wanting since Maelstrom came out some kind of two player version. It would be so fun
