This is a concept for a new defensive mechanic in pvp that would also act as an AP sink / AP earner. I made it a poll because some people like weighing in without writing a post.
The idea is that the four towers in a keep would be given NPCs that players could access to spend AP in order to fortify them. (Or a single NPC in the inner keep). Towers can be upgraded multiple times based on how strong the keep is - for example, a keep with all resources at level 5 can have its towers maxed out, while a keep with resources at lower levels can only have lower level fortified towers.
Once a tower is fortified, it gains NPCs who launch physical or magic attacks through arrowslits. The range and damage should be somewhat better than current NPCs, covering more of a semi-circle extending to 1/4 of the keep yard, and dealing damage closer to that of a human player. The more upgrades to a fortified tower, the more effective the damage. Perhaps they deal a flat rate unstoppable damage.
Any hits they deal and kills they contribute to, that AP is banked for the player(s) who contributed to the upgrades, regardless where they are in Cyrodiil. So if my fortified tower kills a random red walking by on its own, I get a 1900 AP tick wherever I'm at. If it assists in a kill during a large battle, I earn AP the same as if I shared the kill in person. This incentivizes investment in fortifications.
There would have to be a lot of specifications worked out, but the intent of the mechanic is to give teams the ability to make their back keeps / older keeps stronger and harder to take, and to boost the potential for defensive AP. This would (in theory) slow the practice of small groups going to back keeps and snagging them so fast that the defending team doesn't have time to respond.
