Anyone else getting the same loot drops over and over again?

I know RNG is RNG, but I just want to make sure I am having bad luck and it isn't an actual bug.

Really wish each zone set was tied to specific bosses vs all bosses being able to drop any of that zones sets.

Rng isn't truly random, after 200 runs of darkshade only wep I've got to drop is resto staves, and roughly 5 full sets of tank gear I wish I could sell.

Ya know I always seem to get stamina set staves with the traits I want for magicka waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many times. The loot system sucks. It's antiquated and ridiculous. But, ZoS will continue to keep it the way it is because the grind is how you keep playing. It's when people get what they want that they lose interest. By essentially giving you a infinitesimally small chance to get your items, you keep logging in and running garbage content. Ya know, like hundreds upon hundreds of runs of ICP to get divines pants....and don't get me started on vMA.

Good news is Destiny 2 is coming out soon.

Ah but that is th problem, I personally believe RNG is Mostly RNG I've had too many experience the same as you to accept that RNG is pure. But that's just my opinion.

If I respec to stamina and throw on heavy armor, will that trick the system into giving me the magicka cloth armor I want?

Possibly. I get TONS of light and medium gear when I run my tank, not the heavy stuff I need. This is why I don't solo grind for gear, I need to trade with the DPS or Healer for my armor.

For the last couple of days I keep getting the same minor treasures over and over again when I steal. Enough so it's noticeable: four Magnus Cult effigies from one room, like that.

It's probably just a coincidence but it's weird to see somebody bringing this up about other loots right now. I've been wondering if there's some kind of stutter going on.

I have logged over 1k houra in this game and have not seen any of the RNG issues others report.

I play in very short stints compared to others. I honestly believe that the RNG issues that others experience have to do with the length of their sessions. I belive that RNG gets confused in some way and gets itself into some kind of loop when you have played a long session.

Those of you experiencing these RNG issues, it might be good to begin tracking WHEN your issues start. I think you will find that they kick upwards of 3-4 hours of continous play.

When I first log in and do Blackheart haven, I get a lot of pirates tatters. If I keep running it, I get almost no tatters. Likewise, if I use a few keys and get the same shoulder pieces I know to stop because I will keep getting them; how do I have so many useless bogdan night flame shoulders when there's so many other possible pieces?

I have never heard it confirmed, but I have a theory...

ZoS put 3 sets per dungeon and then decided which one was the good/desirable ones and which ones were less so, or just complete trash.

Then they weighted the RNG towards the trash sets that nobody would like. If a set gets popular they set the weight even higher against the popular set.

So for example in COA 1 & 2, you have Embershield, Sunderflame, and Burning Spellweave (pre-nerf).

Embershield is terrible even for a tank set, so it has the highest drop rate, then Sunderflame is actually ok, but not widely used so it was somewhere in between, then Burning Spellweave was BiS, so it had the lowest drop rate (I am actually pretty sure they lowered the drop rate even more when every magicka DPS started running it). Couple that with the fact that if you only want 1 thing (sharpened BSW flame staff) that only drops from the final boss, and you have a better chance of getting eaten by a shark while getting struck by lightning.

It may be that RNG and emotion of not getting what you want makes it seem that way, but given how many Sunderflame and Embershield staves I got, and how few Burning Spellweave flame staves I got I am going to go with my theory until someone proves otherwise.

    Playing since beta...

I could build a house with Night Mother drops from Deshaan. For a segment roughly 2 hours, 10 nightmother, 7 plague doctor, 2 mother's sorrow.

Guess which set I am after?

The loot tables are (heavily) weighted, which means certain items/traits drop much more often than others.

RNG is just that...... RNG, an arbitrary value in a range..

BUT....... (and its a big one)

what the RNG is applied to is definitely not random, its a loot table and these are crafted by the devs.

If you are lucky then the RNG -> loot conversion is simple and reasonably evenly spread so you have roughly the same chance for any drop, then it really is just down to luck.

If you are unlucky then the table is weighted so certain items appear more often and others are much more rare. Crown crates are an excellent example of this.

Only place I've really felt that there is weighting so far has been the epic gear vendors in Cyrodiil. Get way too many useless duplicates for it to be chance given the size of the table.

I don't think it happens in ESO but the worst kind of weighting is when you have separate loot tables by class so for each class its preferred drops are rarer, this happened in DCUO and honestly, it sucked big time.

So... if there a bug then either the RNG generator is broken and it only gives a small range of numbers or someone messed up when creating the loot tables. The second would be easy for the devs to check, the first would be a bit harder depending on how the RNG is invoked.

If not a bug then its the weighting of the loot tables biting you and that is working as intended. :/

Why is it when ever someone refers to working as intended it means 'not fun'?

Why is 'not fun' a design goal?

In the end I did not get the piece I was after, but got something else that I can plug in for it.

As a previous poster stated it is a weighted loot table... for example if loot were assigned a number from 1-100... lets say sharpened VMA inferno would be assigned number 1... precise would be assigned #2... charged would be assigned #'s 90-100... so the "generation" of the numbers are random, but since the loot table is weighted toward shite traits... therein lies the problem... RNG in no way means that we have the same chance to get a sharpened VMA staff than one with a bs trait...
