Call on your staff's strength to protect you or the lowest health ally around you with a damage shield that absorbs $1 damage while also healing the target for $2 Health.
The shield's strength is increased by up to 300%, depending on the severity of the target's wounds.
When the shield expires, the target is healed for 100% of the ward's remaining strength.

No it does not use spell damage for the strenght of the shield but only the heal that you get from using it initially. This is outdated and shields exclusively scale from max stat wwhich makes hybrid not an option and it's just sad. I did ssome testing btw just a few days ago during a duel : I checked the tooltip with my spell damage unbuffed which gave me a 1400 shield and then buffed my spell damage and the shields was the exact same value as it was when i was unbuffed

this is false, i have done my own testing and the ward increases in size with spell damage, from both minor and major sorcery, the formula that i have presented is accurate.
