Even though Absorb shields don't take the extra critical damage, scoring a critical hit on target wearing Wizards Riposte set and having absorb shields up, procs the set.
Wizard's Riposte says .. "when you take critical damage, you apply minor maim to enemy ...."
Tested, using Shadowy Disguise skill (guarantees next hit to be critical), on Sorcerer stacking shields. Wizard's Riposte proced consistently 100% times. The damage never took away all the shields to actually touch the targets health.
Exactly what @arkansas_ESO said, you will critically hit a shield just as often as you will critically hit anything else - you just won't do any additional damage beyond your base attack.
You are technically still doing critical damage though.

ok .. I misunderstood the mechanics regarding the absorb shields then ... my bad
Althought .. It makes Shield-Stackers even harder to kill now .. if they use that set

Meaning they gave up: lich, or Amber, or necro etc...
Consider it a win
Wizard's riposte makes it harder for zerglings with low damage zerg/tank builds to kill their target, people with good builds can still kill people using Wizard's.
What's the issue there, stop zerging and L2P?

There are already a limited number of sets that synergize with Sorcerers, we don't need to reduce that number any further.
