You want to know why PVP doesn't get fixed? Because it would take real work and real work takes money. And what is the return on that money? A broken system that brings in little to no further money is fixed for a few people that are still willing to suffer the broken system.

The biggest problem with this game is that all they need to do to make real money is reskin a horse or sell a goofy hat with a funny name and people throw money at them. Why spend hundreds of thousands of dollars hiring teams of people and expensive equipment to fix systems only a small part of the gaming community use when they have a far better, FAR better rate of return making a beard, or strap lights to a horses rear and those people that pay a monthly subscription will still buy it.

Take a look at LOTRO. That's was a great game when it came out. Not as popular as some but it was still a great game with great gameplay and a devoted following. A few years after release they go to the free to play model. They get a major influx of money shortly after and then it was cut and paste dungeons, goofy outfits and straight down the tubes.

ESO has far more players and a bigger budget so I imagine it will last awhile longer but the moment the cash shop comes out the best they can hope for is to milk the role players who would rather stand at a fountain and dance in a dress than those of you who found the original mechanics of the game so appealing.

Sorry for the rant, frustration has been building for awhile...

@Silvertiburon_11_ESO not a rant.....you were just keeping it real!

My experience in mid year was getting into Cyrodil, accepting the new quest then finding a fight lag although out the fight then do a gap close on an enemy and teleport into the next world .

A lot of people who once white knighted ZOS when I called them out on their b.s is now on my side about the same issues and that's funny but good.

This issue will never be fixed because there's no silver bullet as rich would say. Fret not with new games coming out soon I expect this game to start shutting down servers or going free to play.

I don't often do PVP as I am rubbish at it, I openly admit that :). However I wanted the Achievs.

I am in Australia so we have a higher ping anyway, usually around the 300 mark which is livable. We get used to it. However. On saturday after having to replace my dead graphics card with a GTX 1070 so a bloomin good one, I was in the Q for 4 hours. Once I eventually got in I dc'd 6 times in less than 15 mins. Totally unplayable.

I tried again yesterday in the smaller campaign. It was ok for a bit but then again started to dc, connectivity is appauling. When you are just about to cap a keep and get tonnes of AP and you dc it isn't fun....

I'm in Virginia, USA, and frequently have a 30 ping, and a 180Mbps connection speed, but don't assume that I don't spend my share of time where it just shoots to an 8,000 to 10,000 ping on occasion, and that lasts until I disconnect and it's time to do something useful, like, uhm... anything else, really.

And while I'm pinging at 10K in the game - my network can ping and speedtest almost anywhere in Texas and yield a high speed and low ping returned.

It confuses me too how many are just happy to accept half finished products from zos.

Bgs have been broke since morrowind release yet there is still people paying for it and white knighting zos.

Just wait for the next DLC...I am sure it will not have much content in it. Perhaps a few BG maps, and a new dungeon or trial.

Hell Wrothgar is bigger than Morrowind, and it was free with sub.

Wrong, which is why i didn't bother with the rest of the post.

We used to have hundreds of players in the same spot without lag.
And that was before they removed skill/status effect display on other players and killed all the deer in Cyrodiil.

    Yes really.

    giphy.gif

But yes I agree with you, the lag at the moment is terrible. Surely there should be a limit to how many players can enter a campaign, yeah there is a limit now but gawds it needs to be lowered.

Although it is most fun when there are 40 players on both sides and your all trying to kill each other, but you are all lagging so much that you are just running past each other and not even hitting anything but air. Its great.

    giphy.gif

Its funny really, you think this would of been improved as the fan base increased over the years... but alas..

I got lucky and get a sharpened vma battleaxe in my first try last week. So i decided to level a new orc sorc stamina oriented character. Named him Awe gro-Some :) After leveling him to 23 i entered cyrodiil, get a resto stuff and spam healing form back lines hoping to level my cyrodiil skill lines. I was happy thinking about how the pvp event nicely timed for me.

But then it started. The disconnections were like happening in the same minute i relog. I even experienced login fails telling me my internet connection is bad. But no it wasn't my connection that was bad it was the Megaserver.

So a proposition; can you ZOS please consider cyrodiil skill lines levelable in battlegrounds. Actually that is where i will enjoy my character anyway after leveling it.

    Thank you for reading.
    Have a nice gaming experience.

I don't have that much issue with lag unless it's server lag. But then again, I'm using 8 cores @ 4,5 GHz and a downclocked video card to reduce its heat and workload. I've also severely limited how many particle effects can be shown on-screen at any given time (which results in less lag, but also makes some visual effects invisible in large zergs. It's a trade-off).

And then, the game just becomes laggy after playing a while. Restarting the game every so often or doing /reloadui every other hour will do wonders for your lag prevention.

As i said before, they could reduce total amount of players per faction and provide more campaigns instead.
The reason why they don't do that is the vision of Cyrodiil as place for mass PvP and mega server technology.

It's overdue to lower the pop cap in campaigns and provide more campaigns instead but ZOS will never accept the fact
that their vision failed because of bad performance.

A never ending story in MMO industry, merging servers to the smallest amount possible to keep a world populated without necessarity to transfer chars to more populated realms to save a lot of money. No one in this business would ever say "Our vision and technology failed" and no one in this business would invest more than necessary to raise quality for gaming experience.

Since MMOs are not business critical applications that needs to run stable 24/7 you will barely find a game company that really cares. I am so sick of this, because gamers are customers like in any other business and to make a difference is not acceptable any longer because it's 2017 and not the 90s.

Was in Shor last night and had a handful of rather large battles (AvA in some cases, AvAvA in others), and while there was some visual stutter, those actually worked well enough to react.

It's the other circumstances (the one's that don't make any sense as to why they'd cause delay) that seem to be the issue.

Things like transit, or door exits... There is not that much data moving back and forth in those scenarios to warrant delay of any kind, let alone a full tilt loading screen.

I loading screened into my death recap on more than one occasion. This should never take place - there should be a server check to prevent this. Sync anyone?

Good God, man? Are you tapped into the second box down the line from D.C. itself, or do you live in an apartment right above a major internet hub?

It's generally not an issue of hardware on the client side. It's also not likely an ISP issue or a routing issue, unless the packets going out are so malformed and sloppy that any decent router is tossing them out like yesterday's leftovers.

Lineage was known for its massive PvP battles, well larger than ESO will ever see, and it rarely skipped a beat.

Whether it's on the networking side, the calculations side, or somewhere else that should be completely unrelated, there are some major missing optimizations here.

So one thing I would like to see, is perhaps a system that rewards people for migrating to the less populated servers. I have given up on a lag free Cyrodiil. That ship sailed long ago. So until the next game comes along, would be cool to see ZOS maybe buff AP for playing in the less busy servers or playing on the less populated alliance. People would find a way to complain that it's "unfair" **boo-hoo**, but it could spread the pops out and reduce lag issues for everyone. That's my thought. Back to coffee.

I was surprised as it was zero lag for me, yes it was Kyne but it was pop locked with queue and I was running in zerg all the time. Was in some large sieges with many zerg groups and it was no issues. PC-EU
its 3 reasons for lag, server lag in that server has to calculate everything, connection lag because of lots of data who need low ping and client lag because cpu or gpu has too much to do.
Obliviously the lags get added and large fights will push everything hard.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

@zaria Yeah the lag seems minimal on Sotha and the 7 day campaign. In spite of a phenominal puter, Vivec primetime is unplayable imo. I like my skills to fire within roughly 5 seconds of when I hit the button and enjoy seeing the incoming damage before I'm dead. High expectations, I know.

Isn't ESO full version coming out sometime in 2020? It's not even the beta yet. It's still in alpha testing. You just have to pay to play the alpha.

For real, though, ZOS is just busy scraping up their DLCs. They don't really care about the player base as long as they can get their "income" at proper time and get enough to feed their family. They know that most people stay with this game, as I do, simply because it's a part of "Elder Scrolls" series, although I so wish that it wasn't--lore-breaking and all... Alas, it does have Elder Scrolls in its name. They literally have little to nothing to lose. We all complain about this game. So what? Y'all will still play because it's an Elder Scrolls game. It's like, they can fix the damn game, but they don't need to because they still get the $$$. Now, I personally call that amateur marketing. There's a reason big companies around the world try their best to suit their product to customers' want/need/demand. Gaming industry is slightly different, imo. Gaming industry is one of the only "places" where the seller can pretty much ignore buyers, as long as they give the false impression of "Oh, we finally fixed some things! AND we have some new stuff for you to try out! But we still have that gap-close bug and ***." It's like Michael Bay's Transformers. You earn money when they buy the tickets, not while they're watching it, and that, it seems like, is the only thing that matters to ZOS.

I can't bring myself to defend Zeni. I cancelled my sub several months back, but I did buy Morrowind, largely for Battlegrounds. And I continue to play them even while raging about how messed up they are (stinkeye to Brian) and how proc sets and inequitable skill "balance" makes the combat feel bad (stinkeye to Eric and Rich).

But I'm still here, and don't know quite why. Sometimes I play another game, and come back here. The things about ESO that are great, are really really great. Good enough that they are worth sticking around for, even if not good enough to outshine the bad.

Well, to be precise, they didn't move all calculations server side.
That would have involved a complete re-write of the client/server netcode (which is something i and others encouraged ZOS to do as far back as early beta).

One of the reasons for the continued lag is that they cobbled together a "client side validation" scheme that obfuscates the client side information in memory (at runtime) and encrypts it for transport.
This has worked for most of the amateur 3rd party hacking tools but not for those who know what they are doing.
Competent tool makers, like cheatengine and similar apps still allow you to cheat.
    They never really went away.

So in reality, all this added lag in the name of client side cheating prevention was for naught ...
