ZOS needs to divorce PC and Console updates

I have the suspicion that one of the reasons why ZOS takes so long to fix things in this game is that they feel the obligation to delay updates up to three months, so they can bundle a lot of fixes into the big DLC update. I think it would really benefit the game if ZOS could completely divorce the PC and Console updates. What I mean by that, is to have PC fixes and features be implemented when they're ready, and to have all those fixes bundled to be given to console players every 3 months. Many multi-platform games prefer doing this. Examples like Warframe and Overwatch jump to mind.

As to why this is important, I'll give you an example from the PTS. This is a fix that is schelduled to be released in August. Not monday, not a week from now, August.
Battlegrounds
  • Renamed the battleground game mode “Capture the Flag” to “Capture the Relic”.

It's just a minor change, right? It's not that big of a deal.

But it could be released now. And it isn't.

Imagine if instead of a minor text change, we were talking fixes to CPU performance. Or fixes for PVP lag. Or any kind of hotfix, bug, abuse. We would, again, have to wait 3 months to keep console parity. In extreme cases, ZOS will releases fixes immediately, true. But they don't do it nearly enough.

I can't claim to understand how the internals of Zenimax Online Studios works. Maybe they don't do this because of a deal with their server providers. Maybe they don't do this because of limitations in their server-side patches. Maybe it's easier and less confusing the way they do it now. But I'd really appreciate if they could change how updates are delivered. This would not only make the studio seem more transparent and customer-friendly, but will also greatly improve the PC experience without hurting the Console experience.

Hire more engineers. Hire more people to make sense of the mess you have here. I love this game, and I'm sure the devs do too.

I'm not following. PC and console aren't updated at the same time and console gets dlc later than PC usually. Also, that fix for the DLC is probably tied into the fact that they're adding a new type of bg and map. August is a little over a week away anyway. The patch maintenance is pretty regular (too regular for some people).

Fixes to things like performance are installed pretty much on a weekly basis, some things are even hot-fixed more quickly than that. Meanwhile August is only a little over a week away and I'm sure people can continue to be invited to capture a flag rather than a relic until then without losing too much sleep over it.

On a game project, it's easier to do a large number of changes less frequent than doing small number of changes more often.

Even small changes can cause major problems, so time is needed to test and sort out everything.

The company I work for does patches monthly on our game, and every time someone comes to me in the middle of a month asking for a patch to fix some small issue, I cringe, because I don't know how much might have changed in the previous 2 weeks to just make a patch and release, so we need time to test everything and hope nothing got broken.

    This.

Patch maintenance occurs fairly regularly on the three platforms. Patches are often fixing some things.

Yes, some fixes are placed into the major updates, but your example is kinda lame. Merely a name change. Not a fix.

Case in point, there will be server/patch maintenance on Monday for PC to address a issues and fixes. Consoles will receive their maintenance on Wednesday.

PC has had 6 patches (not including hotfixes) since Morrowind released (3.0.5 was Morrowind; PC is on v3.0.10 now).

What you are proposing is exactly what already happens.
