Green Dragon Blood

My DK is at level 15 and yet to unlock this skill as such I would like to know more about it.

This is the only on demand heal for DK but as per the tooltip it does not heal based on your HP rather it heals based on your missing health which exactly what Vampire Drain does.

Vampire Drain : 3 s channel but it heals 60% of your missing health with 2.2k magicka (Stage 3 higher)
GDB : Instant but it heals only 30% of your missing health with around 4.3k magicka

Let us assume that my Stam DK has a HP of 24k and I am at 40% of my HP

Missing HP : 14400

Vampire will give me : 8640 HP (60% of 14400) in 3s with 2.3k magicka

GDB will give me : 4320 HP (30% of 14400) instant with 4.3k magicka

The stats are clearly in favour of Vampire in a standard non-PVP scenario right ?
Though Vampire is a channel it is much efficient with respect to Magicka usage and healing output right ?

So why do I see folks rave about GDB and recommend me to use it for self healing ?

Because 1. It's not a channeled ability and 2. It's also provides other buffs. Basically, it's a great burst heal for tanks to run. If you're dps, however, you're better off unlocking and using Vigor.

Vamp Drain is pretty much never used in actual combat scenarios; being locked into an animation is never good.

There are tanks using vampire drain skill, but more for ultimate gain than heals.

You can spam Green Dragon Blood, at low health this can be amazing at getting back most of your health in 2-3 casts as you're running away. Vamp's Drain requires a target, very short attack range, channeled, and its on stun diminishing returns so using on a mob that you recently stunned will still come attack you.

Ironically, the visual is what I dislike most about GDB.

I get the concept, but the part where your character actually turns translucent still looks kinda derpy to me.

If you're low level and don't want to grind for vigor, use vamp drain or green dragon blood (you should) - consuming soul trap is quite viable, plus it tops up all your resources, just make sure what you're fighting has fast-to-kill adds, green dragon blood all the way for bosses and solo targets.

Use rally or vigor when you play stam. The skill istself is in a bad spott for ages now. Its only used by high hp tanks at the moment.

Agreed, GDB is only useful at high HP/high magicka recovery builds since it scales off your missing health and it's quite costly. That means tanks only. Stamina DK uses rally and/or vigor, magicka has more options: burning embers, flame lash or running restoration staff on back bar and using healing ward. Vigor is accessible early on, since PvP can be started at level 10 and 100K AP usually takes a couple of hours to earn. Rally takes much longer, since it's the last skill in the 2H skill line and raising that to 38 takes longer than PvP-ing for vigor. If you choose the 2W, first 2 skills, which are unlocked and trained quite fast have healing morphs, but those are situational, and require you to do damage in order to heal you.
