[Discuss] Current PVP Reward System and Suggestions for Changes

I initially thought about some of this as I was replying to Glarin's thread (and so as not to steal his thunder totally, since it's primary about RFTW, it's here), but I wanted to talk about the entire system as a whole and not just Rewards for the Worthy (RFTW), which is just a part of a greater whole.

PVP rewards need to be revamped in a major way. It needs less randomness as a whole (the entire game's rewards system could use a little less Diablo-esque utter randomness). Instead we should be able to work towards something, a guaranteed reward. As it is PVP is where you get certain sets that are mostly just good in PVP, skill points, and titles. If you're good/lucky enough to get Emperor you can get a title and a costume as well.

Now, compare this to the vast array of stuff that you can get for PVEing and it's a rather disproportionate level of difference. People want to be rewarded for their time spent in Cyrodiil and not feel like they could be better spending their time elsewhere. This, compounded with the other dysfunctions of Cyrodiil like lag, help keep the PVP community in the minority.

There are a lot of easy ways that this could be changes without major commitment from ZOS. Changes to what vendors stock, adding a few more achievements, and tying some rewards into Housing (one of the most important account retaining options any game has).

Below are my suggestions, but I want feedback from others both on my suggestions, and for others to add what I haven't thought of:

1. Change RFTW. Make it only igve bags of gold and soul gems. Slightly increase the amount per bag due to the removal of the gear.

2. Add All Gear to Vendors, Remove Bags. Put the gear that would normally be in the bags onto vendors. Make each quality tier cost more and more AP. Do not use the random bags anymore. AP can continue to be a good, all round token system. Make the items Bind on Pickup if necessary. Let people buy what they want, when they want it.

3. Add Achievements that Give Housing Decorations. Lots of them in fact. Give us as many choices as you can. Best part is, it's all pre-existing artwork. Give us furniture from Bruma for capping it X number of times. Give us Red Diamond banners for getting Emperor or capping Imperial keeps. Give us specific decos from specific keep captures. The crypt from Chalman, the statues from BRK, the moss and ivy from Black Boot. Give us damaged enemy banners for killing XX numbers of opponents, and a pristine friendly one for hitting Captain rank or something. On and on and on. Housing motivates people very well, and this would all be artwork that already exists, making it minimal cost to make it available.

4. Give us a house based on a very high rank. The ultimate reward. Some spiffy Imperial villa that is based off at least rank 40. This will get people into Cyrodiil and keep them there for a while as they try to get the house. Heck, make it available earlier if you want, but unlock additional rooms as you rank up.

5. Add PVP Sets to the Attunable Crafting Stations in Housing. Another simple item that wouldn't require new art assets. Give us the ability to attune the crafting stations in housing to the various PVP sets at a cost of AP or at a certain rank. This would all us to make Xivkyn Ravagers or Order of the Hour Vicious Death, or whatever we wanted. More choice is better choice, plus it's a change that would not cost additional assets to add in.

6. Add More Achievements. This is another simple thing. Certain PVP actions do not currently have achievements that really should. Capturing scrolls (you could have one for each scroll!) should give an achievement to the carrier. Killing X numbers of players in a certain period (kill streaks), should as well. Each keep should have its own capture achievement. Killing a scroll carrier should have a kill achievement. How about an achievement for 'Storming the Gates!' when passing an enemy scroll gate the first time? There's plenty more to this, I'm sure there are tons of others people can think of that I have not.

7. Costumes and Mounts. Probably the costliest suggestion, behind the house, but these are tried and true rewards other MMOs have used extensively. Seasonal specific mounts and costumes based on your rank for a certain month. They don't even have to change much from month to month (just reskins, really), but would be very cool. You can theme them off the current Crown Crates, or whatever you want. This would keep people constantly striving to up their place on the leaderboard. More than just yellow rewards most of us sell anyways. Shor, the 7 day campaign, can share the reward table for the full month, meaning you'd only have to top the leaderboard (as in top X% of players) in a particular week once per month and give people a better reason to play the smaller campaign as it requires less time to get these rewards. This is similar to the old Gladiator system from WoW's ranked XvX arenas. You can add rewards like this to the BG rankings as well.

8. Tons of other stuff. I'm not the final arbiter of all that should be added in, of course. There's plenty of good suggestions waiting out there and I'm sure ZOS has some good internal thoughts, too, but haven't implemented them yet for whatever reason. Let your voice be heard.

What would you change? What do you think should stay the same? Do you think these ideas are any good? Do you have ones you think are better.

Let me know. Let Zenimax know.

Good, positive feedback can only help.

@Agrippa_Invisus great suggestions man, wanted to point out though a lot of your housing suggestions already exist. You can get siege weapons, alliance banners, desecrated enemy banners, a ruby throne for getting emp, and an elder scroll for grand overlord.

So there are. I should really look them all up at the same time.

OTOH, there's always room for more decos, like the ones based off stuff already in Cyrodiil..

Like... do all the dailies in Cheydinhal or Bruma and get a bookshelf, or a trophy indicating the achievement. Another for completing all the Cyrodiil delves (which are harder than normal ones due to having multiple bosses + PVP).

And the idea is to always make it easy for the devs, too. Re-using old artwork is a tried and true method of keeping things well under budget, but could make them fun and exciting for us.

They should definitely add more costumes and achievements to PvP. There is so much potential for that there and gives people a reason to PvP and do things such capture scrolls.

    I agree with number 1.

I get tired of mailbox maintenance due to rewards of the worthy from cyrodiil and battlegrounds. I have an alt named rewardsoftheworthy that serves no other purposes than to hold the crap from those rewards until I have time to post them to a trader.

Alliance rank achievement is worthless cause of all the people that exploited grand overlord. pvp rewards mainly worthless. you need to pve to get sets for pvp. you don't need to pvp to get stuff for pve. Housing, not sure if that useful to a pvper,l I dont care for it. Remove the mails yes they're are annoying and worthless. I yern for the day I don't have to empty mails of all this crap.
