PS4 EU - Australian players, ADSL2+ & VMA

Can anyone answer this:

If you're Australian, are on PS4 EU and have completed VMA, are you on ADSL2+ internet?

I am stuck on this pot-holed, gravel road of an internet for at least a year before my area gets NBN. I have made it to stage 7 (prior to MW) and I would like to know if it's POSSIBLE to actually complete on ADSL2+ - or in other words, whether I should even bother attempting to finish it prior to getting NBN (which, yes, I know, for some has made their internet speed worse). As it is I have had several metric craptons of deaths in getting that far, but it's extremely stressful. (I'm not going to blame all of them on lag, but I'd say it'd be a fairly hefty percentage.)

If you can answer yes to all of the above, can I ask what day of the week and time was optimal?


I'm sure I won't get anyone saying yes, tho...

Not sure I can be of much help but you're not the only one having trouble with lag. I'm all over the place and about year out from NBN in my area. A big problem we have is over subscription and distance. We are over subscribed on our networks here but the 4G Network, even 3G seems better for gaming in some cases so maybe that's an option.

Also I have noticed that late night or morning seems best for ping time. But it can be hit and miss. For me the lag is only a recent thing and I'm two hours north of you on a *** country exchange for ADSL2+.

I'm on PC-NA but have completed it at my parent's rural property when going out there to escape civilization with their premium adsl 1 connection. Ping is usually around 380 - 400 there.

The only round that high pings really screw me on is round 7. Best way to mitigate this is just have a magicka toon that can spam shields so if you get poisoned even when your screen shows you as being out of the red you can just spam shields until you get to the green.

You absolutely have to know the mechanics to being able to clear it with a high ping though. If you don't know the mechanics like the back of your hand either prepare to be frustrated to death or go learn them on normal. I spent some time clearing normal mode naked which helped to learn the mechanics while being more forgiving than vet. Simply doing normal with your veteran gear won't help because you'll kill things too fast and won't be recreating the experience you'll face in vet. If you can't clear normal naked then do it with your full gear, removing a piece each round until it becomes challenging enough to have to concentrate on what you're doing.

Once you know what spawns where and when, how to stop bad things from happening and where to position yourself in each round then clearing it becomes relatively easy even with high pings.

A night of playing for me usually works out at about 3 or 400 mb, but I'm super cautious about what other programs are running and potentially downloading when tethering off my phone.

With Telstra 4G I find the average latency is less, but the frequency of 999 spikes is higher and more severe than with either the premium ADSL 1 connection at my parents or the ADSL 2 at mine.

yeah u can do it. i did it on 400 pings with 420 cp. I went on holiday to singapore recently- 170 ms pings- my dps went thru the roof- from about 22K to 35 K- my guild mates were like " wtf! " - not being able to animation cancel, weapon swap cancel, weave light attacks, you ll have to press buttons twice before they go off, etc, etc, react to ***- etc, etc makes a big difference to our gameplay. unfortunately it is what it is- you won't be able to get on leaderboards- you ll die a lot of *** deaths- but you can finish it - and quite reasonably too. with the current situation for me- in australia- i can do vma with around 5 deaths and 520k score.

ives seriously thought about posting a lag build on youtube- the things we have to build around, like- we need spammable heals and dps on both bars- we can't have too many different skills cos they won't fire, etc, etc. like lag classes are mag dk and magplar, stamplar, mag nb - playing a class like mag sorc, stam nb, where you need quick reflexes and alot of quick bar swapping to put up shields, cloak , etc, etc- is fuckig *** and not fun at all.

I complete it all the time on ADSL2. Don't do it peak times and on weekends if you have bad lag. Anytime week day after 6 PM is best

I won't be able to give advice nor help, but would like to say that I know exactly how you feel. I live in South Africa. I played eso since PS4 launch and back then I was on a 10meg ASDL line. From opening the ESO program to logged in was less than a minute, now almost 5 min. But login is not the problem...

At PS4 launch there was 0 to minimum lag. Characters was very responsive and I could play all content. After every update since then the amount of server info grows and the lag with it. Right here right now the game is unplayable to me. I am now on a 40meg VDSL line and can not play any vet content, no dungeon , no trials (the one thing I love most) , nope none of that.

Currently my 40k DPS sorc is walking around harvesting matts and doing farming. I took of my chest piece since its pointless using a vet 12 man trial character to do normal quests, there is one world boss that I can not solo, that smiling Guar with the spiragums that heals him. Vivec be damned but that one is tough soloing.

So I came to the conclusion that ESO is only for NA and EU, it is not for the rest of the world any more. Do zenni max think its nice to see how lag pulls my name through the mud. Do they think its nice being discriminated against because its now fiscally impossible for me to get past 20k dps due to current lag. I've decided that my toons is now on in game vacation until August update and if its more lag I'm quitting eso for good. Now bare in mind that I've played since launch, almost every day, my life changed so much because my sleep time is the only play time I have, I ave now 3 hrs sleep per day, so this really is not easy even saying I'm quitting.

I know that the August update will not be better (tear rolling down my cheek) , I know this is my last month playing eso (eyes completely watery), its just really really sad that it has to end this way, I just can not take the ridiculement any more, most friends and guild members dont even know what lag is, they get 25ms ping, wow compared to my 260ms ave (this is only the distance to server lag, if the server lag as well I'm fooked), if they can press the button so fast they can communicate with server 40 times in a sec. I can 4 to 5 times in a sec currently, how is that fair to judge me on my skill if its actually distance to "lagging server" and not my skill level. Anyway good luck for it seems mine has run out.
And no, I dont give stuff away. The only thing I'll do is arrange with my guild GM for I'll be opening my Cavern to the guild, they'll love that cave just as much as I do, well until GM forgets and kicks me, not my problem any more, hypothetically that is...

You get too much ping to eu shoulda chose NA but i know some aussies who have flawless conq on eu

I'm also from South Africa and I'm stuck on a 10meg copper line as my area haven't yet upgraded to fiber.

The lag, load screens and crashes are so bad for me that by the end of the night my mood is such that you don't want to be around me.
What ever happend to playing a game for fun and relaxation?

I upgraded to ps4 and bought this game because of Skyrim and loved it for the past 2 years but now it's getting to the point were logging in leaves a bitter taste in my mouth as I full well know what awaits me night after night.

To sum up my nightly gameplay:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

So yeah, I feel your pain!

As a fellow Aussie I know your pain used to have these speeds
if not worse. Best advice I can give you is know your class and learn the arena at your own pace, find a build that fits your playstyle and don't get deterred just keep trying.

Here in NZ, I am stuck on adsl1 and cant complete the final stage. High ping isn't the main problem for me, its the low bandwidth. Trials are impossible (game crashes every time on boss fights) and I had to give up on stage 9 final up top bit of Vma. 0.3 to 0.5 MB up and down even during off peak times. It would have been nice just to finish it once.

@LadyLethalla Yeah, like you said, even on a light attack. 3 days ago inside my cavern, I'm the only one inside and been there for about 20 min decorating so everything was loaded and displaying correctly, I decided to go farming. Did my normal checks like weapons charged, gear fixed, got enough food and potions, check check and check... I'm ready.

Walking to the door I hit light attack. I see my character doing the animation (light attack animation on lightning staff) but no ball of lightning is flying out of the staff. I stopped walking and was about to hit light attack again and peww there goes the ball of lightning a full 4 sec after the animation. I just stood there looking like I've just seen a leprechaun robbing my banker for gold... I mean its a light attack, I'm alone in a cavern that's been loaded and stable, 4sec after animation, Vivec be damned.

Divine nine please help us, like me I'm sure the long distance players have all developed the "anticipate enemy position play style" were one predicts the enemies movements for aoe placement but NONE OF US CAN SEE INTO THE FUTURE, let alone predict 4 to 5 sec of play.

All I can say is that zos must find a way for the server and the client to communicate faster and with less info. I know nothing about programing, well on this level at least, but I have an idea and would like to share it with you.
It would be nice if the server monitors your latency, then the higher the latency the higher the priority for calculations on server, in other words: the sever will calculate the high latency player first and then the low latency players. Maybe something like this will help.

Anyway good luck to us all. My IRL dream these days is a world with lag free internet for all...mmm lag free

I haven't done VMA. I've been struggling just to do dolmens for the past week with ping bouncing everywhere.

the worst is when people taunt u in a group , etc. like for having *** dps, or heals or whatever. when the truth is- from australia -t eh game will incessantly pause for like 5 seconds at a time. i dont play gross anymore, only normal and farm mats . i only play vet ma when i go to a net cafe that has top end connections. but yeah- *** go zos. every patch since one tamriel has gotten worse and worse- the have yet to listen nor adapt. and this is when theyre actively marketing morrowind at bus stop s here- i dont know why they would bother to do that when the game is unplayable. when i tell people i get 400ms on the usa server 600 on the eu as normal ,they re like *** that- we ll stick to BDO.

ZOS dont realise- that crown crates, etc- dont mean ***- gaming experience is everything - fix that and you ll have more players than you can imagine. the next WOW, and more money that measly crates. the short sightedness of ZOS pains me.

Any weekday after 4pm, I get the "Netflix Effect" - ie everyone gets home from school and work and starts streaming... and pretty much the same all weekend/public holidays. That's happened since my ISP introduced "quota free Netflix".
The best time for me seems to be weekdays from about 10am to 2pm, which since I work full time, kind of rules that out as well.

@SlinkySlack I feel your pain. Trials - haven't done one in months - I get disconnected all the time, even during the morning now (used to just be evening). Did pledges the other night and was getting 5-10sec lag, but it's not always that bad. You're right though - it's embarrassing when you can't even swap bars during a fight. When you have to be rezzed ten times on one boss because you were standing in the red, when on your screen you were outside it. When "I've got horrendous lag" just sounds like an excuse for being crap. I can't even reliably light attack my target skelly.
And also when you're riding through a town and you get pauses every couple of seconds and NONE of the other players moves without teleporting. That happens ALL the time now.

And so I seem, like you, to be reduced to doing the occasional pledge when my friends can't find any other person to fill the group or else doing them solo, or just gathering mats/ chest hunting/ pickpocketing or farming (soloable) gear. That's about it.

So yeah. I'd love to finish VMA but atm I don't know if it's worth the headaches - or when I'd find the ideal time to do it.

We need an Australian based server. That would fix the ping but then population might be an issue.
