Dk leveling confused

I have never leveled a DK beyond level 5.
That's my shame.
I feel very weak when compared to my other toons while at the same level.
Is DK meant only to be a tank or something ?
I really would like to try out this class (Mag or Stam does not matter)

Is DK that underpowered when compared to other classes ?

Or I simply should stick with it and it gets better over time ?

Only real answer i have tbh is don't judge a class by a level 5 character. Play it. Level it. You'll find out if you think it's good or not.

Dk is pretty strong, same as other classes :-)

From the tooltip the damage seems to be quite low although this could be due to me just level 5 and all

To put it simply, DKs are all about their DoTs, which have little effect on quest and overland enemies due to their low health pools and easy killing. DKs also don't have executes in their class abilities.

In order to be able to do quests faster and level faster, you need spammable abilities. Lava Whip is a potent DK spammable if you are magicka. For stamina, Flurry from dual wield or Uppercut from two-handed should do nicely. All of these are the first to be unlocked in their respective skill lines, so you should have access to them from the start.

DKs are extremely viable in group content, because that's where their DoTs shine: on high health enemies. In fact, 11/12 of my abilities on my stam DK dps bars are all DoTs, the remaining 1/12 being Molten Armaments.
