Hi all,

As above, Should you put CP in penetration if you have sharpened weapon?

Is there a cap on how much penetration?

Thanks

From my understanding in PvE you'll encounter 9K-18K resistance depending on what type of enemy you encounter.

In PvP, I've seen builds with spell and physical resistance at 35K and there are a lot of heavy armor builds as well. I'm not sure what the recommended penetration in PvP is but I run with about 14K usually and haven't had any issues with taking out heavy armor sorcs or DKs

Thank you for reply. I wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting CP on it.

PvE you should reach arround 12k penetration. There are just some bosses and mobs, which have 18k resistances. Most have 12k or less :)

In PvP most guys run with arround 20k resistances, some tanky guys have more and nearly all light armor builds have less without buffs. Experienced PvPler nearly all have defending traits on 1 bar to stay tanky too. In PvP you should reach as much as you can without loosing other important stats.

Also, in pvp, you don't penetrate shields. So any investment in penetration is wasted on shielded targets

This applies to PvE as well (e.g., earthen knight in vdsa), but you'll encounter fewer shielded targets in PvE.

All veteran dungeons mobs and bosses have 18.2k resistance.

Overland mobs have 9.1k resistance but that doesn't matter as they are all one-shot anyway.

Yeh...spell pen is the trick to my high numbers. Run 17k right now, only 30ish in CP. In light armor i also have 30k spell resist buffed on my def bar, so even then on a light armor player im still not over penetrating if they are built right.

Shield damage is meh...but im not losing that much by choosing spell pen stack because...if that shield goes down for one sec, its all i need to hit you through most of your resists and make it hurt

Not quite right about the PvE part:
Overland enemies: 9100 spell and physical resistance. Dungeon and Trial enemies: 18200 spell and physical resistance. The only exception to this is Maelstrom Arena where resistances vary depending on the stage.

Exactly on point on the PvP part though :)
