I guess they forgot to remove it... it was only available for purchase for a limited time, from April 27 to May 1, 2017.

Don't think they thought it through properly when they decided to make houses limited time offers.

But don't worry, once they figure out how to resell it at a bigger profit, say by making new Grand Crown Crates at 2000 Crowns a pop, it'll come right back in lottery form...

Nah, I sincerely doubt it was an oversight or was forgotten. There's a message when you preview the island that says it isn't currently available for sale - they wouldn't bother doing that if it weren't going to be back. The Telvanni Meatshroom Tower was limited time but I think it's still preview-enabled as well - I haven't checked because, well, phallic shaped houses made of magic-infused flesh are kinda gross IMO.

Offering the preview gives ZOS a way to build up your desire to own it when it becomes available at a later date - for a limited time, of course. Or it could become an item into which you can sink your (very expensively) converted Crown Crate Gems.

Nah, it would probably be add as an apex reward. Getting 400 gems for most people is a lot, lot more expensive than even what they wanted for the house first time around.

Don't think adding houses to the clown crates is a good idea. They would make a lot more money selling the house as before (it was 3-4 times more than the cost of the 15 crates pack), than placing it in the crates. In theory, uou could win the house for 400 crowns --if you were lucky enough-- instead of paying the 15000 crowns of original cost unfurnished. But well... anything is possible.

So by that logic, how many crown gems would it cost to buy the island? I paid 15k crowns for it. So my guess would be that it would go for 1,500 crown gems or somewhere around that.

It will be back.

To my knowledge, the only item they have said will be exclusive was the ESO membership reward (striped senche).

And it can't be an accident. While a company may not pay attention to every bug or whatnot in the game, you can be sure that they keep a close eye on their major revenue source.

By that logic, you simply CAN'T use gems. You would have to keep buying Crates until you got it.
