magsorc dps setup viability

Hi just wanna ask is lightning/inferno still viable for sorc? I am running a non-pet setup
Almost everyone I know or I saw are running double lightning staffs with netch set, as I know this allow
them to have a good uptime of off-balance in small groups or solo mode, and this setup is very good for DPS
dummy test as well, also pure lightning dmg means higher implosion proc in execute phase i think?

But myself haven’t got a master’s or vma lightning staff and I still havent finish farming netch set yet, however
I do have a vma sharpen inferno so I hope it’s still viable?

My 5/1/1 setup is as follow : 5 x julianos body + 2x ilambris + 3x willpower + front bar julianos lightning staff with berserker enchant
and back bar vma inferno staff, all traits divines and sharpened only weapons are gold rest purple.

I did some dps tests on a 3mil dummy and I am constantly getting 25k dps, is this considered low dps? since I heard ppl pulling much better numbers

test conditions: champion points=545 /solo with no one aside / no major breach / no spell power pots, only self applied power surge

My skill setup is as follow : front bar lightning -> mages wrath /hardened ward /haunting curse /inner light /bound aegis /thunderous rage
: back bar inferno -> liquid lightning /fire blockade /flame clench /power surge /bound aegis/ energy overload

my roatation is a heavy attack rota as I got higher dps with it compared to a force pulse setup, not sure is it becoz of CP allocation can someone tell me?

MY rotation is like : LL > blockade > clench > barswap > curse > HA x 2 > curse > repeat , barswap cancel second curse, apply surge every 3 rotations with swap cancel and drop ulti at start and once later, in execute phase swap 2 x HA with 4 x wrath, and light weave between everything

I currently stuck at 25k with this build and rotation, if anything I can change to push it higher please feel free to point out.
If not should I change to netch build with dual lightning? Or should I swap out ward for other skills but it feels like cheesing dps to me

Seems to me like 25k under the conditions mentioned is pretty good. You aren't using Elemental Drain or using a backbar lightning staff with 75 points into Thaumaturge. Are you light attacking between casting skills? I'll bet you'd test closer to 30k with consistent off balance and elemental drain. I'd swap clench and curse, put your destro ult on the back bar and shooting star on the front. Then you'll start with the destro ult and drop shooting star as it procs. With curse on your back bar you can apply all your dots and aoe on the back bar, swap to front, 2x HA, light attack cancel clench, swap back and repeat. Craft some spell power pots and replace your ward for elemental drain during tests. You'll see a dps increase I'm sure. Really though most vet trials groups ask for around 25k DPS minimum anyway.

Best way to answer your question would be to just get a non-set gold sharp lightning staff with a shock enchant for your back bar and run the same rotation you usually run (expect make sure you have 75 points into Thau). Personally, this is what I opted to use over my vMA sharp inferno staff until, I got my lightning one.

Of course, if you're in a group where Exploiter is being handled by other players, use the inferno staff.

but isn't shooting star similar cost to destro ulti but deals less dmg? any reason for using it? ill try slot ele susceptibility and with more cp it should push me to 30K around i guess. Will try spell power pots as well but I rarely use them as they cost too much nowadays even with self crafting

Shooting star is one of the best single target ultimates there is for sorcs. You'll also get a boost to your max magicka on that bar from mages guild passives. There's not a ton of difference but the boost to mag and with it being cheaper makes it a nice choice. I like spell power pots for tests and trials just cause it's one less thing I have to cast during my rotation both time-wise and resource sustain-wise. If you use it in trials though it's probably best to just use it in your testing then too as you'll get a better idea of your actual DPS output. i think really you'll see the best increase in test DPS if you craft a lightning staff with a lightning enchant for your back bar and get your Thaumaturge CP up to 75.

Having a Lightning Destro ultimate is so much stronger than Shooting Star (including the 2% max magicka) or the Flame Destro ult... Its not even funny. So ^ this isn't the best advice as far as ultimates go.
Normally double lightning staff would be the best setup for sorcs this patch so you can get the best of both worlds. But if running a flame staff, rather slot Shooting Star there to boost your execute damage and the Thunderous Rage on the front bar. Don't run a heavy attack build if you ain't using pets though... Its such a loss

Also, obviously you need to use Spell Power Potions 100% of the time in trials (if someone mentions that they are running some trash pots, I'm kicking them straight away because they are letting the whole team down) they make your sustain better due to the higher amount of magicka restored and they give you basically a perma Major Intellect, Sorcery and Prophecy buff.
Drain is pretty mandatory for DPS tests too.
No wonder that you're having better results with a Heavy Attack build! You don't have enough sustain to sustain a FP build because you're lacking 2 biggest sustain things. So go craft some pots and ask a mate to put Ele Drain on the dummy for you.

This patch the more Exploiter you have the better the uptime. Remember that literally everyone heavy attacks and that DKs using Flame Lash. So just 2 Blockades of Shock from healers isn't enough for a 100% uptime anymore. 4 is more or less safe, we personally use 5 (2 Healers, 2 Sorcs, 1 Tank).

I wasn't saying don't use the destro ultimate. I was just suggesting using both as many people do. The shooting star is really powerful for single target and cost 42 less ultimate (with passives) than destro ulti so you can use it more often even more so if in a trial and other adds get caught in it. What I do and have seen suggested a lot is open with the destro ulti then pop shooting star as it procs. You'll often get more casts of it which will be a DPS increase.

ty for the advice, if i run a FP build what should the rotation look like? Any differences in rotation between the dual lightning and fire/lightning set up?
