Not sure whether to be amused or angry (bite stealing?)

A friend messaged me looking for a free werewolf bite. I had one available, so we traveled together to the shrine in Reaper's March. One other person, some random CP 630, was dancing around at the shrine. My friend and I very obviously showed up together. Friend very obviously stood in front of me. I transformed to wolf mode. And literally at the moment I pressed the button for Devour, the random dives between me and my friend like a Secret Service agent taking a bullet for the President and my character ends up biting the rando instead of my friend.

Who now has to wait 7 days for me to bite again or find someone else willing to give him one.

We both just kinda stood there in shock because neither one of us have EVER seen someone just dive-bomb and "steal" a bite like that.

I'm equal parts amused and mad.

Anyone else seen something like that before? Just seems like a total *** move to me.

I've seen people hanging around but never seen them actually try it. It's pretty hard to time as you don't know when it's coming.

Sorry that you had to experience something lame like that. If you're on PC EU I know someone I can forums tag to get you a bite.

Happened to me as well. Someone was asking for a bite and I offeeed one. When we got to the shrine which was crawling with people waiting for bites or asking for freebies, I wolfed out and tried to bite the target. He were so amazed at my werewolf form he was wiggling around like crazy. Each time I positioned myself to target him there was this silent random positioning himself between us as well. I told my victim to stand still so I could clearly target him and not the other parasite but I thought he must have taken it as a RP 'stand still my pretty so I can better chew on you' kind of thing. When I thought they were both stationary enough that I could target my victim, again my victim fidgeted away still amazed at my wolf form and I ended up biting the random. It didn't help that they had 'troll' somewhere in their name as well.

Bottom line is, if you want a bite don't hop around like a bunny on heat waiting for it. We only have one chance to hit the right person PER WEEK. I know you're excited for your new colony of fleas--erm I mean beautiful silky fur but please hold still for five seconds. It'll help stop some random idiot from making a fool out of both of us.

Edit: and oh yeah. If there's people around who are clearly trying to dive bomb into your bite, just wait. Wait until they move away, or just wiggle somewhere else leaving you with a clear line of sight. And then wait some more until they get bored or go pester someone else. You can keep form forever while around the altar so it's not like you're on a timer to land your bite.

Had almost the same thing happen....I brought a friend to bite him...and some a$$hat kept stepping infront of me ...

Finally had to send him some not so nice tells informing him where he could travel to....and he gave it up....

Just have to cope with these idjiots sadly

I've actually seen the opposite quite a few times. Went over to the shrine to bite someone and when my friend got their, or even a stranger passing by, someone lurking around just gave em the bite then left. Free stealth lycanthropy.

I have seen people do this. Unfortunately all you can really do is just both of you try to get to the edge of the shrine area, away from the crowd, and wait as long as possible to be certain, with the devour option right there in front of you, to definitely bite your friend and not someone else.

I suppose another thing you can try now is travel to one of the other two werewolf shrines, if the current one you are at seems a little crowded, or you see someone clearly trying to steal your bite. The other locations may be empty, and you can now complete the werewolf quest at any shrine, regardless of alliance

@runagate yes that is also a tactic some people use Stealth bite. Some people log on only to give their bites on some characters. Sometimes people have been waiting days to give away their bite, so they will take the chance as soon as it arrives to give it away

Honestly the prompt was always so finicky about appearing, I was half under the impression you had to be grouped with someone to receive a bite

@Runagate This now raises the question, has anyone ever had this happen to them while also ignorant of what the werewolf shrine was/that you could even be bitten by a player in this manner?

It hasn't happened to me but I saw someone attempting this when I took my character to be turned into a vampire.

There were 2 other people at the shine when I got there, one just standing still and one running up to every new person, vampire or not, and standing right in front of them, no matter what they were doing. Even after they'd bitten someone else he'd be stepping in front of them every time they moved. He only gave up when a new person came along, and only to repeat the same process with them.

I'd never been to the shrine before and wasn't sure how the whole bite thing worked other than I'd heard you could just show up and vampires would arrive to bite you so I didn't really know what he was doing or if it was necessary.

Eventually someone told him that if he wants a bite he should ask, and if they're trying to bite someone else he should stay out the way. I'm not sure he really understood because the only thing that changed was he started typing "bite plz" into /say chat every few minutes.

Evidently, yes.

The guys who would camp the spawn points and snuff them? Not so much. That's gone, mostly. But bite stealing lives on, it seems.

I've had people do the dance while trying to bite a friend. I just wait for the right moment It's all about the timing.

I suppose one way to fix this is to make the character targetable, so when you execute the skill, they're the one that gets the bite, and not some *** trying to ruin it for everyone else. I'm in a vampire guild that gives out free bites (PC NA), and all one has to do is ask. That reminds me, time for me to logon with my vamp and go bite someone.

should be patched, set target point and not change it.

Haha that is an awesome technique. Get all the people crowding you for the bite to dance, and then your friend runs off to the side and you bite him at the last second, the others too busy performing the emote xD

Probably something to consider in the, "if werewolves were real," pile.

To be fair, I could absolutely see vampires engaging in this kind of behavior. Which, incidentally, has also happened in game.

Maybe it would be a good thing to change the Werewolf- and Vampire-Bite to "group needed", so you can only bite someone, when he/she is in your group.

Then the "Bite-Stealers" have no chance anymore. Hate those players...unfair.
