Anywhere you can get purple drops...

Often while playing by yourself, finished off the base game after hitting 160cp but all I got were greens and the odd blue.

I have all DLC only tried Maelstrom and Imperial city which I don't like so would be cool if anyone could point in the direction of a solo zone where drops are good.

So it normal to be stoating about in blue gear hardly progressing for days unless you do dungeons, that sucks bored to death of the dungeons in this game after mainly playing to get to 160, proper snoozefest.

Well, you could craft some gear or use the improve function in crafting to make your blue gear purple or gold.

Why not just upgrade your gear with purple upgrade mats? like Grain Solvent and Elegant Lining.

Blue to purple isn't bad purple to gold can be expensive. You don't have to have all gold gear. Pick the better pieces you have and just upgrade those.

Purple overland drops are not common, true. Which makes sense seeing these are epic artifacts and thus rare by definition. Nobody really cares though because improving items has become insanely cheap, even if you go for legendary quality. Equipping a char fully with gold quality items costs around 200k or so these days, depending on the Armour type (tempering alloy is still the most expensive improvement item). That's not much given the game's economy at the moment.

At CP160 you only have 12K?

    Why?

That question needs to be answered (at least in your head), you should have 200K by that time, unless you spent all your gold on houses and stuff like that :(

I'm afraid 12k gold will buy you not much if you do it yourself. I'd rather recommend looking for a friendly crafter to craft you full sets you pay for. If you don't ask for an exceptional or expensive style I'm sure there are tons of crafters who would craft stuff for 5 to 10k all included, if you're lucky, maybe even for free.

Welp, then go grind some dungeons/public dungeons/delves and vendor everything or put it on your trade broker until you make some gold.

...yeah, that'll burn you a bit.

The thing about drops in ESO is, you're more interested in what dropped, rather than the item color. If you get a good drop set piece in green, that's almost as valuable as getting it in purple. You can just upgrade it, fairly cheaply.

Upgrading to gold is expensive, and not something you'd want to do often, but upgrading to purple is pretty manageable. Just make sure you max out your item upgrade passives and your refinement/extraction passives, and you should see a fair amount of blue and purple mats dropping from refinement, and then upgrading should be fairly cheap.

The one exception to this is jewelry. Getting purple or gold jewelry can be very expensive and/or time consuming. It's not impossible, but it is something that'll take some serious effort.

That said, if you're constantly swapping out your gear, and trying something different, that will maul your ability to stockpile. Usually, the advice is, learn on a DPS, and then pick up tanking or healing when you're actually looking at doing dungeon runs. Leveling a tank is tedious, and leveling a healer is arbitrarily painful.

So, aside from jewelry, most players aren't really looking for something to drop in purple. It's nice, but you don't need it. Blues are just as useful.

Yeah just didn't know blue was wait you aim for, thought when you get to 160cp purple would drop a lot more often but obviously not.

As for changing from tank/healer so much there is an explanation, was doing random dungeons and wait time are non existent on tanks and healer but both are very boring while I DPS solo, now found a sweet spot where I DPS with a bit of heal on the back bar, enough heal to keep people alive in normal mode dungeons but can still do reasonable dps as well.

When it comes to dungeons, you are much better off finding a friendly guild that does ad-hoc dungeon runs. In those cases you can afford to have a dedicated tank or healer, and switch over to a dedicated DPS for PvE. I mean, it's what I do.

I'm also not talking about finding some hardcore progression guild. Most of my normal dungeon runs come out of a trade guild these days.

Purples are never guaranteed other than from the undaunted chests, vet group dungeons/trials, the ones you mentioned and maybe master chests. The rest is pure rng.

From chests we do have a passive that increased the chance to obtain better gear when opening them.

Depends what platform you're on. If you're on console (PS4 EU), it can cost in the region of 1m to upgrade all your gear to gold. This is assuming you have no gold mats and have to buy them yourself of course. Alloys are around 10-11k each, wax around 9k each and rosin around 7k. A stack of silk 16k, ingots about 4k and wood about the same as metal. Then there's the purple mats. Ain't cheap.
