Potent nirncrux is rare and expensive while fire opal Isn't but whats better sharpened or nirnhoned

Potent Nirncrux used to be BiS for magicka dps until mid last year. The two nirncrux are the only traits added to the game since launch with all the other traits common via decon, looting and crafting helper since launch.

Just the history in case you were not in game during that first year.

Today Potent Nirncrux is not BiS in most situations.

Nirnhoned used to be the Trait for Magicka users whereas Sharpened was the Stamina Trait. But then they overhauled the traits and basically made Sharpened the trait for everyone, bringing both types of Penetration into this one while also buffing them

Every update, there's some kind of hardcore grind to earn a new, shiny item. Nirncruxes and Nirnhoned were that for Update 4 in fall of 2014.

Even now, after so many months of Ninrhoned only being terrible good in niche applications, it's still an uncommon trait stone to find. You have to farm mats to get it in Craglorn. There are few other sources, and the normal ways to get other stones won't work.
