Elder Scrolls Online: In-game card game

Voice_of_Chronicles
Dear folks @Zenimax, dear fellow heroes,

I am sure many of you have come across the TES based cardgame "The Elder Scrolls: Legends", and I am probably not the first one to suggest this but...

it would be awesome, if LEGENDS or at least some version of it, was introduced to the actual MMO! Being able to play a game of cards in between raids, or while waiting for the last person to finish their /bio /coffee /call.... or whatever.... would be too nice.

Yes, I am aware that you could just run the game in the background and switch to it in above mentioned cases BUT:

-what if the cards you can play in this game of legends were actually obtainable in-game via dungeons, raids, quests, storiesline, PvP, AvA, you name it.

-what if the cards became tradable?

This would increase the already high incentive of re-playing the content the game boasts with.
For us it would be a neat way of spending time in between waiting, and most important another reason for doing certain content yet again.
Moreover it would be a further reason to spend time sitting at a table in either player houses or any other venue that offers a table where cardgame might be enjoyed.

Playing Legends I know that you have already implemented some kind of connection between the cardgame and the MMO (wolf mount comes to mind) but I still think this is different from what it might become.

I already enjoy the game very much as it is and I am not sure if the gains really make up for all the additional work this might cause but I wanted to share my thoughts nonetheless.

What does everyone else think?

PS: I was not really sure in which section of the forum I should post this idea, so feel free to move my post and apologies for any inconvenience caused. o:)

The cards would be nice addition to game, any minigame in main game is welcome.
For now though we have to play games like lizard race without betting anything but for quest only, which is boring. I want to bet with gold for my best lizard and breed my own lizard and use it for race :).
Anyway card game and betting on gold would also be fine, but is it legal?

    Interesting.

Although I'm more of a Gwent and Triple Triad fan, I wouldn't be upset if something like this would happen

Just please no Crown Store/ Crate "exclusive" cards :s

    More RNG yay!

EDIT: Oh, and you know it would end up like FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) where you'll have to purchase packs from the crown store. No thanks!

No, the card game is terrible, just like hearthstone in being purely turn based with no real-time reactions to opponent plays. This is why MTG is still the best card game out there...instant speed response instead of waiting for your turn. When you have to wait your turn, it takes all the fun and most of the strategy out of the game. I will qualify this with the fact that I havent tried legends since beta, but I assume its still like this...just a hearthstone copy.

If I want to play ES: Legends Id go play Legends, so No to bringing that into the game.

Tavern mini-games other than Legends would be nice, maybe have specific games in specific zones to better represent the cultures of the zone and Lore. This I would be completely for!

Maybe just some tavern minigames, housing minigames, but maybe even in form of a collectible card game, dice game, chip game would suffice (acquiring the necessary items of course will mean you have to PvE or PvP).

Yet I believe bringing LEGENDS to the TESO would be alot of fun, too

No need to play it if you don't like it ^^

I wouldn't jump for joy if they did something like this. But I certainly wouldn't rage quit either. It could work. Just not sure how many people would actually participate. I would prefer the focus on their core rather than deviate from the established strategy.

I'm somewhat scarred by ingame card games as I STILL have not won a single game of Gwent :'(
But that said, something interactive in the inns/taverns/player houses would be pretty cool.

I'm thinking back to Fallout Vegas where there was blackjack and other casino-type games, could buy chips and play, it was a nifty immersive touch.

I've never seen the draw to minigames like this inside other games, but to each there own.

As long as implementation doesn't take dev and game resources from anything else, I'm fine with it.

I actually like the idea... a lot.

It wouldn't even matter that much if the game was good, of course that would be a plus.

That said I highly doubt this will ever be implemented, but it would be neat.

Yeah, but then that guy will probably have to wait because of the others are busy playing a game, and neither of them is willing to surrender. Meanwhile, the guy who returned would in turn search for a match as well, and there you have an infinite loop.

"Today was a good day. We might not have done the dungeon we wanted to do, but I won 3/5 matches on the useless ESO:Legends."

For waiting, go grab yourself a drink, take a trip to the bathroom as well, or have fun with your friends who are also waiting. There's a lot of funny things you do with emotes, when you search through them. ;)

This is type of card game where you always lose. :/
  • Voice_of_Chronicles
Yes, I agree if a minigame was to be implemented it should NOT be based around crown crates and I dont't consider crown crates to be even close to one

Just the idea of having a dice / card / chip game, or TES: Legends but most importantly a COLLECTIBLE game introduced to the game and making it's colletibles available through PvE and PvP would be nice.

Maybe a game of Legends would actually take to long and end up in people not playing the main game as much anymore or as @Dracindo put it ,you end up not doing what you wanted to do, but than again, it is our time and we decide how we wish to spend it. Thus I would rather have the possibilty to choose if I really want to do the dungeon or if I just want to sit in a tavern, or in a keep and play.

Thinking of AvA...how sweet it would be to have something like a brief card game, in between the next big siege. And even funnier thinking of the people that might actually surrender a keep because they just had to finish their game of cards.
I am sure history is full of similar incidents concerning smaller matters that lost sieges :D

I will revise my answer. I don't care for legends, I think it lacks depth and strategy, however, it would be neat if it was included. It would create a crossover situation for ZoS/Bethesda and possibly bring more players to the game, especially if there were cards you could only get as rewards for ESO content. What I really wish is that legends were a better game though.

That's fine as long as there is no tie-in between Legends and ESO in terms of achievements, rewards, prizes etc. It'd be great if people who enjoy Legends could play it in ESO, not so great if people with no interest in Legends had to play it in order to get the most out of ESO.

It would also be necessary to ensure that Legends had no impact on game performance, and that addons couldn't be created that would give their users advantages in Legends.

It's called doing public and group dungeons ;)
Just the idea of having a dice / card / chip game, or TES: Legends

To be fair, it wouldn't be bad to have something like this added. A quick game in-between raids, maybe even betting some gold... I mean, a dice game can be made and played in less than 10 seconds. Just accept a bet, watch the dice and check the winner.
Because keep in mind: what if you could play these anywhere, and you're on a spot where mobs respawn.

    Personal opinion:
I'm against mini games within mmorpgs unless they have been implemented from before Opening and are solid with no further Development resources needed to tend to it.

The simple reason being I would prefer the game creators to invest their resources to maintaining, fixing and adding more action to the game. I used to collect YuGiOh as a kid, so nothing against card games.

Minigames are "action". They're fun, they keep us playing, they give us something to do with friends. There can be so, so much more to a social game like any MMO than just killing mobs/players. When you're bored of doing the same thing all week, it's nice to just have a night off in a tavern with some music and games. It's well worth spending developer resources on.
