As the titles states, which one and why?
.... I have to admit, the devs do listen to reason, if not to the forums. Thank you for "nameplates", a welcome addition to immersion, as well as the text chat box for PS4, which only comes on the screen when I need it too, and helps this gameplay SO MUCH MORE then without it. THANK YOU for the additions. Very much appreciated.

    pvp or pve?

what types of weapons do you plan on using? what will fill your spare slot/s?

julianus gives the benefit of allowing you to craft the items and buffing all spell damage (which may or may not be relevant depending of what skills & staves you use)

sun will only buff flame skills (which may or may not be beneficial depending of what skills & staves you use)

Yea, those are the "master" builds or BiS. But before I get there, I wanted something it it's place.

Go for Sun and Julianos then until you get the BiS Gear

True, I feel like a noob.
PvE, flame staves. Right now I run 5 Julianos, 5 Burning Spellweave, and a staff on each bar. I do have Valkym monster set, but feel that it doesn't proc enough to be worth losing the 299 spell damage. Magicka falls around 44k, spell power is at 2,200 crit is at 47ish. I melt stuff ok, just want to know how to optimize dps when I feel like dpsing (as I normally main tank, and switch my CP and gear when I'm bored so I can dps, or heal, or tank).

Just use 5 Sun (jewelry + Body), 5 Julianos (Staff + 4 Body) and 1 Kena until you get the gear I said above :)

    sun is outperforming BSW?

I still run BSW, Grothdar, and 4 Infal.

Personally I use 5 BSW(backbar with dual wield) 5 Sun, 2 Grothdar. I proc BSW on backbar then proceed to swap to front bar. It seems to work pretty well and I have decent uptime on BSW. The fact is there will always be people telling you that this or that setup will work best for a given build, and technically they may be right....but I have found thats not the case in the real world. I have found what works best for me is what fits my playstyle best. It doesnt matter if X build makes 1.5% more DPS if I dont enjoy playing that build in exactly that way. I am always changing gear and experimenting to find out which works best for me, and I often end up with non-meta builds.(I have a DK DPS/tank hybrid right now that pulls 20k single target using 5 rattlecage, 2 Illambris, 5/4 way of martial knowledge(back bar/front bar, martial knowledge 5 piece is meh, but the constant 4 piece is good)I use it as my farming tank, good for anything short of trials or vRoM, vDSA). If this is just an alternate set for your tank though, you shouldnt even be worrying about max DPS. For instance for my no-dmg tank, when I pug tank places like Darkshade II and the DPS need more help on Grobrull, I will swap to my 5-piece Hundings, 3 piece agility, some random 2 piece sword dancer just because its there and pull 20k single target. True...20k single target(whatever that equates to AoE with DW/Bow) isnt any good for a DPS, but its perfectly sufficient for a tank who takes a few minutes to throw on DPS gear for a given fight. If you are queuing for a dungeon as DPS though, its just easier to swap to another character that is optimized for DPS rather than try to re-spec every time, its really tedious to have to go swap mundus stones, reallocate CP, etc just to run a dungeon or trial...far easier to swap toons.

I don't enjoy trials at all so i discount trial sets, as i'm unwilling to farm them.

    I instead jun illanbris with
5 Julianos and 4 Spellweave on flame staff
5 Julianos and 5 Spellweave on Dual weild

Silks is easier to get than Spellweave (particularly in shadpened sword). But as i only have the 5 piece bonus 50% of the time, Spellweave is a better 4 piece bonus and the 5 piece proc can carry over on a bar swap. Therefor single targe dots ans spam are on the dual weild and aoe and buffs are staff.

With this set up i will still argue that Spellweave is better than silks even after the morrowind changes to its set bonus. I'll trade the lower health for the spellweave crit that stacks with julianos.

All things considered, BSW and Silks are about even in side-by-side. Selection depends on what additional gear you have. I have seen silks paired with BSW but your crit tanks. So i would say pair julianos with one of the other two.

If you are using Julianos you don't have to worry about farming sharpened weapons at all...just make them. As for the spell crit...it depends on how much you already have before that one piece bonus, there is something to be said for the added survivability the health bonus gives you.

Sun hands down. Way outperforms julianos on a dk. I use 4 sun + staff, 3 archt gems+legs (just what dropped)+staff back bar for ult proc+ Grothdarr.
    PC Master Race

    1001CP
    8 Flawless Toons, all Classes.
    Master Angler
    Dro-M'artha Destroyer (at last)
    Tamriel Hero
    Grand Overlord
    Every Skyshard
    Down With BOP!

Thats by design. If not you don't get the 5 set julianos and the 4-5 BSW. If you run all julianos wepons you'll drop the julianos 5 piece on staff. And screw the health. Its a glass build, health drops dps and you'll be better trained for if/when you get the BIS.

Illambris is also higher dps on boss fights, especialy if your enchant procs the lightning aoe

Ur crit is low, should be around 60% or more.

You need to have lighting staff on backbar where you can throw AOE, cast Molten Armaments and channel heavy attacks.

Keep all your dots and single target damage skills on inferno bar, make sure you are using sharpen staff with spell damage enchantment

I would say like this (very simplyfied) (PvE)

    * If you don´t have BSW or Silk of the Sun go with Julianos, it´s a nice "all-round" set for magicka DPS
    * In a trial/raid that´s not "optimized" go with BSW
    * In an optimized raid go with Silk of the Sun

Thats why you craft on julianos sword and one julianos staff, and fill the 2nd sword slot with whatever BSW sword you can farm...sharpened or not. I myself never had any luck finding ANY BSW sword though, much less sharpened, its the most tedious part...easier to find a sun sword since you can buy them or just farm chests in stonefalls all day long. Losing the 5 piece julianos bonus isnt that big a deal though if your uptime on BSW is enough to make up for it...at least until you can find a BSW sword.

Taking all that into account, until you get a BSW sword, I believe Silks of the Sun is the better option.

i remember trying to do all things on 1 character and as someone else said it gets very expensive & very boring very quickly

i would def recommend rolling a new character if you would like to start DDing

if you just want to deal a little extra damage while your doing pledges/questing/grinding you do not need to be optimised, so go with whatever is easiest/quickest

You just agreed with my entire post while still arguing the point. Read it again, but try to pay attention this time. I didn't say all weapons were BSW, you think two out of three arn't julianos. I was counting on the reader being able to figure out thebest arrangment with what drops they get

I run 5 BSW, 5 Infallible Aether, and 2 Grothdar.

My "back bar" is a sharpened Infallible Aether Lightning staff, and my front is a sharpened BSW flame staff. I only go to the back bar for Heavy Attacks and back bar DoTs. The Infallible Aether buffs my lightning heavy attacks and procs minor vulnerability.

I know it isn't technically BiS, but I get good DPS and my heavy attacks are pretty strong.
    Playing since beta...

I did not know that the Morrowwind update made Silks that much better than BSW. Is there a patch note that explains something that I missed? Anyone else?
