So you are happy with precise lighting? I have like 4 precise, 6 nirn lighting and 8 infused but never feel happy and wanted a singe sharpen lighting staff. I am never going to have that soon as i am after this from over 200 runs!
I have sharpen inferno but i feel bad after homestead patch changes. I am using lighting for AOE damage and sustain in PVE and i am mostly playing stamina in PVP.Edited by Lord_Eomer on June 26, 2017 4:53PM0 -

Believe me only way of getting sharpen is to do 4-5 times VMA a day or RNG need to bless you. I had stratight away 8 charged weapons in a row which broken my patience.

Because in pve, if you are running a destro staff, you are always running WoE. The stat budget on the maelstrom enchants outweigh regular crafted enchants.
The vma weapons are tuned to perform above average under certain criteria. In the case of destro staff, where in pve you are maintaining 100 percent WoE uptime, the vma wep comes out on top.Edited by exeeter702 on June 26, 2017 5:24PM1 -

Well, of course that specific enchantment won't be good for someone that doesn't use that ability. That's obvious, and happens with ANY weapon, not only with that vMA staff.
It's like saying, "Hey! Why people say shields are good for tanks? I'm a ranged magicka sorcerer, shields aren't good for me".

For a magplar that dual wields up front the main bonus is the extra spell damage boost slotting it gives you. When I used to run BSW on my magplar I'd use it to proc the effect. The other half of the enchant isn't all that special otherwise for the aforementioned character but for it's incredible for pretty much any other mag character. If you really hate the enchant though and you would be so bold as to spit in the face of RNJesus, replacing the enchantment still lets you keep the spell damage bonus. If for some reason though you get a sharpened inferno maelstrom staff and override the enchant, don't tell anyone. Take the secret to your grave.1 -

If you do use wall of elenents you lose good dps, this is a must slot for any magicka dps!2 -

I've got two Sharpened Lightning and two Sharpened Ice, and enough Sharpened of every other weapon to build a house with... but nah, RNGesus seems to not want to bless me with the last missing piece. 1

I really do like the lightning staves as well yes, but obviously they would be better in sharpened, which I will hopefully get in about 2 years.0 -
Trashkan✭✭✭My buddy weaseled his way through after it dropped and on his first run he got it and he never did it again. This was when drops were not garenteed and it was like 1 in 4 chances of a maelstrom dropping but there were also fewer traits. I quit after I got a precise and a defending. Wall of Elements is one of the most important abilities in magplar rotation lol (for PvE at least). Even if you don't have a vMA staff, you should still be using WoE. Not using it results in a huge DPS loss.Edited by MLGProPlayer on June 26, 2017 10:33PM0 -

You mainly use vma staff on your backbar.
On your frontbar you can use any type of staff and still get the enchantment from your backbar.
You'll get a good 2k+ dps regardless.
You can just do your heavy attacks on a non-vma lightning staff on your frontbar and get up to 5k+ boost to your dps.
That fire vma is generally considered the BiS on almost all raid builds.0 -
