Ice Furnace Set and Wardens Skills

So I am planning on modifying my Warden into a magicka heavy tank for solo/pug 4 man dungeons. I saw the Ice Furnace Set with the 5 set being, "(5 items) When you deal direct damage with a Frost Damage ability, you have a 50% chance to deal an additional 1046 Flame Damage to all enemies within 8 meters around the initial target. This effect can occur once every 1 second."
Now, it says direct damage. Are the warden skills Impaling Shards and Artic Wind considered to be DoTs because they cause X damage over Y seconds or is it considered direct damage because it is not a skill directed on an enemy (ground and myself)?
Also, I know there are threads about this but the tooltips in game should really specify what the skill is considered to be.

I tested it myself. I think only 1 of the warden abilities make that set work... it's a shame cause I farmed for it too. Zenimax really needs to update that set so it can be used. Although, I don't know if the crystal slab works on it (couldn't test). Ice comet might also work (initial damage)

Unless you are using the ice staff light and heavy attacks or force pulse, there's no such thing as a "direct damage frost ability"

I've asked ZOS to change it multiple times.... I think they kinda just forgot about it... @Wrobel People want to use it, but it isn't viable. Please change it!

, destructive clench/reach, I don't remember if initial damage from dots count anymore or not, damage from frost glyph - should be direct damage, those are a few I can think of...

But I still don't know why anyone would want to use it... Even if it didn't have the wrong buffs lol

Ice comet. Maybe the reflect skill from the warden? Idk i didn't buy morrwind.

I tested this set for a good four months on. Nightblades heavy armored CCing PvP tank it just doesn't work. I paired this with every single set I could nothing makes this work.

I tested it in beta for Morrowind and to my shock the set is no better with Warden them with any other class. The set paired with, crit, damage or sustain doesn't work and paired with the ice damage class doesn't work. I say it's time to call Ice Furnace done.

Glyph damage proc's status effects, which are about as indirect as they come.

But, since we still can't get a clear cut answer as to what ZoS's real definition is (how it actually works in game, not how they think it works)...
