Hello i'd like to discuss a buff to Consuming Darkness to make it much more fun in pvp and to bring in an entire different element to pvp as well. Additional changes to some other ground based ultimates are included.


Here is my proposed change for consuming Darkness:
  • While inside Consuming Darkness you are granted Invisibility for the duration.
  • While inside you are immune to AoE damage.
  • Enemy players who enter consuming darkness can see you.
  • You cannot be revealed to players outside Consuming Darkness.
  • Boltering Darkness: Damage mitigation reduce by 30%
  • Veil of Blades: Damage mitigation removed.

Nightblades only know darkness. Step into the void and be struck down.
Some scenarios that this ultimate will excel:
  • Are you a nightblade with terrible healing and need a way to take some pressure off you while outnumbered?... say no more! Throw down consuming darkness and recover while invisible! While inside you are safe from players outside. All though players can come inside and try to kill you. This is where either the damage mitigation of bolstering darkness can save you or the damage of veil of blades become valuable in pvp.
  • Is your friend dead and in need of resurrection?... say no more! Throw down consuming darkness and resurrect him. Whoever dares to enter will feel your wrath!
  • Is there a raid trying to front door your keep?... say no more! Throw down consuming darkness right in the middle and start slaying / raining down cover fire!
Pro's:
  • New stealth based mechanic never seen in ESO!
  • Provides awesome group utility!
  • Gives Stamina Nightblades a bigger role in large scale group pvp!
  • New counter to Eye of the Storm and AoE abilties!
Con's:
  • Only effects 5 allies.
  • Leaving Consuming Darkness removes stealth.
  • Players can enter and see you.
  • Unkillable tanks may enter and become an issue as they are hard to kill.
  • Single Target builds can still enter and try to kill you.



Proposed change for all ground based ultimates!
-Ground based ultimates can no longer be negated! Giving Consuming Darkness/Nova/Standard more value.

-Nova, Standard and Negate now all have baseline 25% AoE damage reduction to 6 players. This effect does not stack.

(To improve small scale group play, these ultimate's now reduce AoE damage by 25% base-line. This will help while going up against large groups using ultimate's such a Eye of the Storm or Proxi Detonation. )



Dragon Knight Standard Changes:
  • While inside standard be granted (Insert value here) magicka /stamina and health per second to you and 5 allies.
Dragon Knights are strong and have awesome sustain. Why not make this ultimate accentuate this for the duration. You dare test the might of the Dragon Knight?!


Templar Nova Changes:
  • You and 5 friendly allies become immune to all damage coming from outside Nova.

Templars are majestic and noble. Nothing may breech their house. You dare step inside?


Sorcerer Negate Changes:
  • See proposed changes to ground based ultimates.




Lemme know what you think? Was just brainstorming and i thought we could use some more power with ground based ultimate's in pvp. Right now abilities such as Negate or Eye of the Storm are being used very frequently and its time the other classes Ground based ultimate's started to make a flashy appearance!

    What I would do is restore Negate to the way it use to function, (let that be the Eye of the Storm counter, which you stated was one of your goals - it's already somewhat designed for that purpose)

    For Consuming Darkness, turn one of the morphs into basically Negate but only for Physical damage (a mechanic similar to how a DK's Ash Cloud use to work)

    Give Consuming Darkness base skill the area damage component VOB currently has.
    Veil of Blades: no longer does damage, but negates physical damage.
    Bolstering: no longer does damage, but heals allies (basically no change)

    This also adds value to leaving it unmorphed, hence 3 talents to choose from, rather than only 2 (something, btw, they should do for skills across the game)

    edit: oh, and you could re-buff Steel Tornado again and make Tornado ball groups viable again because (a) with Negate stopping EotS ball groups it's good to have an alternative, and (b) Tornado blobs would not get too out-of-hand due to VOB being a check on them.

    I like your ideas but they have immediate flaws and they are kind of mundane.

    You have given me 3 options with consuming darkness. 1: A Physical damage ignore aoe, 2: a healing aoe and 3: a basic damage aoe... on top of the snare/protection buffs they already have.

    Negate prevents all magic and already heals or deals damage. Consuming darkness would just turn into a lesser Negate with your idea. You would also just be ranged down by all the staff/bow users almost immediately.


    Compared to my idea of turning you invisible while inside and ignoring aoe's... what was once a boring pve ultimate.. now has turned into a flexible new mechanic that could turn the tides of battle. Countering Eye of the Storm, creating more stealth gameplay and making a new niche type of gameplay where you have to second guess entering the Consuming Darkness to kill the nightblade or players inside.


    The whole thread was to make ground based ultimate's feel powerful in pvp. Standards can be placed aggressively knowing they have resources to back them up for blocking. Consuming Darkness giving players a place to run when Storms start to brew and deal some counter fire. Nova becoming a safe haven for all when *** hits the fan forcing players to enter, then stun synergies can be used to destroy any who enters.

    Its the new dynamics these ultimate's would have that would make pvp amazing.

    Your suggestion for the nb ultimate reminded me of the times I sometimes popped a Clouding Swarm to rezz a team mate. RIP old Clouding Swarm :(

    Mine serves a different purpose: to hit the emergency brakes when a big group of physical damage dealers is already on you.
    (area of denial = inside the circle)

    Yours is used preemptively to lure enemies in.
    (area of denial = everywhere outside the circle)

    Both would be useful, IMO. Those could be the 2 morphs.
    The base skill could be the one used primarily for PVE, with damage and healing.
    No healing or damage for the morphs.

    @revonine , the clouding swarm "fix" bummed out so badly. It was like "we can't fix clouding swarm, so here's a different thing that stinks!"

    I know right.... was such a good ultimate for stamina nightblade vampires... clouding swarm and steel tornado... i miss those days.
