Competitive pve dps build for high pingers

Hi there. As per the subject title, I'm looking for a class/build that's suitable for end game pve for those such as me in Australia with an average 300ping. Specifically for VMA and raiding.

From my experience I have the following issues which are problematic:
-inability to animation cancel due to latency, this really effects dps (high dps build that doesn't require animation cancels?)
-unreliability with bar swapping, sometimes I have to press 3 times before it happens which by then is too late (a build not needing a lot of fast bar swapping?)
-avoiding the red, I'll dodge roll or move etc in time but still cop the hit (so maybe ranged is better than melee?)

So I was wondering about classes and builds that are able to better deal with these issues. Interested in hearing from high pingers who successfully complete vma. What class and build do you use?

It is quite hard to be in-line with players that have lower ping in this game due to animation canceling, however i recommend you go with sorc pet build, easy rotation, high survivability and high damage.
Bear in mind that at some trial bosses such as twins in vmol, the mage in vAA, a pet is not recommended if you don't know how to control him.

Sigh, I know the struggle. I'm from South Africa, and ping is never below 300 but I still do end game content. It just takes MUCH more effort, I main a magicka sorc but I can play other classes just as well. Animation canceĺling at that high ping is not impossible, it just takes a lot of practice.

But like someone in the thread already said, I recommend you give magicka sorcerer a try.

    Good luck: )

If my ping was holding me back I'd be very surprised, you just have to get used to it.

I'm used to it. I just was chasing builds that work better with it. High ping definitely makes it a different game.

I'd actually be interested to see if anyone has come up with anything. I'm from Australia and my ping is in the *** house. I generally try not to worry about it but it's an interesting question.

i ve always had 250-400 pings so i ve never known better. but i went to singapore on holiday once and took my laptop and my guild mates where all wtf - what happened to ur dps- ur pulling like half the groups deeps. and it was purely because with that ping- 170 - i was able to do what i thought i was doing all along .
i feel ur pain mate- for pvp for example- I've had to have healing and shields on both bars, things like that because nothing is reliable.

You don't need to animation cancel. If anything, you'll burn stamina quicker, which leaves you useless in most content. I suggest getting a test dummy (I first stuck one in Mara's Kiss, which is the size of a U-Haul van) and tweaked, tweaked, and tweaked CP further to yield the most damage. IGNORE dps meters. They are not accurate to the actual damage you are doing, and seem to ignore some stam-based abilities including some proc sets, but reports almost everything a magic-based class does. For example, my nb "Killer's Blade" can do 28-30k actual crit damage (as reported by Combat Metrics and by the actual hp-loss of enemies) to 25% or lower enemies repeatedly, but the dps meter reports that attack as 10k. IMy caltrops do 2-3k crit damage, and raining arrows 2k-2200. If I throw both down on the dummy for example, pop rea[per's and focussed, + a weapon tri-pot, the dps meter still shows 10k roughly with same "Killer's Blade" attack, which would puty single-target damage in excess of 30k+, but the meter won't budge. Swap to an axe and dagger, and all of a sudden the meter goes up. I just ignore them now, and can tell by how much yellow appears on enemy health bars after each hit, on whether it's taking a massive pounding or not.

Dps meters also seem to refresh slowly, and always post the last tick from something i.e. poison, but ignores showing the physical damage just before the poison tick. It also seems to correctly report only some of the time, depending on current weapons in-hand i.e. a dagger and axe, but posts incorrectly for say dagger and mace, mace + mace, etc. Hence I suggest looking at CMX log and beat a dummy down. Tweak CP (have about 50k g on-hand). Also, the way the game's CP line is structure, too much of one thing seemingly hurts something else, but you can at least see what's getting a bump, and what's not.

Many guys post stupid numbers, but fail to mention they are from mobs and aoe. Definitely not the same as single-target burning.

The best way to deal with high ping is to weave medium basic attacks into your skills if light attacks are an issue. That is how many top dps with high ping deal with the issue. At times when the medium basic attack is causing issues then drop that. Much of it is probably about adjusting.

Since weaving basic attacks is pretty much the only animation canceling that is done in PvE raiding the medium attacks should do the trick. I know a number of top players that play on different sides of the world from the server and that is what they do.

No sure about your bar swap since that is not a common issue for them, but I expect it does happen some.

One of the top DPS across all the servers plays with around 300 ping consistently. Keep practicing, eventually you will adapt to it. I do feel for you though, I can't imagine always having such high ping ):
