What is this bug? Can't chat and the cursor stays in free mode. [PC]

Sometimes if I mash a few too many buttons at once, or try to type a command with the UI hidden, I get into a state where:

• a) I can't chat ("Enter" key doesn't start chatting and no amount of mouse-clicking will interact with the chat input; Note that "Enter" does cause a faded chat window to re-appear)
• b) The cursor defaults to free-mode whenever zoning or exiting a menu

Zoning doesn't help, though a relog will reset the chat and cursor to normal. Any idea what key I'm hitting that causes this, and how to go back to normal? Thanks!

Normally pressing . makes cursor go in free mode. But that is while not typing in chat.

Correct, but that's not the issue here. What happens is that when I zone or come out of a menu, the cursor reverts to free mode regardless of how I've used the . key. The cursor is supposed to go revert to look mode in those cases.

Common bug, especially if you press Enter with the UI turned off and then turn the UI back on again. Click whatever chat you were in on the chatbox and then click off it. Will fix it up.

Are you on PS4? I had this problem yesterday, but I also couldn't write messages in the PSN menu, my cursor just stayed on the letter g.

EDIT: Nevermind, just saw in the title it's PC

Not sure what you mean -- switch chat tabs and back?

Great info, thanks. Im able to replicate the bug by hiding the UI, hitting enter once, then showing the UI.

And now I see what you mean: Clicking a chat channel name in the lower left, or even a player's name in chat, will correct the problem -- both chat lockout and cursor mode default. Thanks very much!

You're very welcome. Had this happen a number of times when taking screenshots. It's annoying but easily fixed.
