Decided to run a little experiment, asking myself which would hit harder? Focused aim, or cutting dive? Method: spam ten casts of the ability, no weaving and no dots. JUST the spammable. What I got was the following breakdown:

This means cutting dive is doing 87 percent, roughly, of the damage focused aim. Now, some things to consider:
-Slotting cutting dive allows all abilities to deal 2% more damage. Counter? Focused aim reduces enemy physical resistance by 1320 for ten seconds. This results in (VERY roughly) 2.5% more damage on NPCs, and 2% more damage on players if not over-penetrating.
-Casting Cutting Dive, for reasons I will never understand, activates bond with nature. You will be healed for 1260 each second (tooltip) when spamming this ability.
-Casting cutting dive once every eight seconds grants you 4 ultimate thanks to savage beast. It is fair to say falcon's swiftness and morphs, hoever, give you 80% uptime of this ability already.
-Weaving light attacks with your bow increases the damage of your bow abilities by 5%, stacking five times.
THIS WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE TEST. You can, in a real situation, expect Focused aim to do 25% more damage so long as you can get a light attack in every 4-5 seconds.
-Cutting dive is impossible to dodge. This makes it IMMENSELY useful against builds in PVP that rely on roll dodging for their defenses, but in PVE is nearly useless.
-Cutting dive has a fixed 28 meter range. Focused aim grants five additional meters of range to itself, scatter shot, poison arrow, and the Rapid fire (and all associated morphs). This means you can be 30 meters away and actively lay down volley, poison arrow, focused aim, and rapid fire (plus morphs) compared to 25 meters to slotting cutting dive.
This is purely informational, and my personal thoughts are going right down into the spoilers box. For those of you weighing these two skills, it would seem that focused aim has far greater damage potential WITHOUT weaving, and even more so with,
so long as you do not over-penetrate.
If you get different results or if I missed something, tag me!
What is the hardest hitting ultimate in the game? Yes, the destruction staff ultimate. Why does it hit so hard? Because its only purpose in life is pure damage. It has no effects (barring elemental ones), it just
deals damage. That is the use of cutting dive. Like destro ult, it is all about JUST dealing damage, and yet when compared to a utility skill like Focused aim it falls way behind for the stupidest reasons. All that it would take (in my opinion) to fix is give cutting dive minor breach. Just breach too, not even both minors like PotL. But I digress...
Right now, the skill (and class) that was not at all subtly touted as the ranged stamina class doesn't even have the damage to back itself up as such. Stamina wardens will still have plenty of class identity ESPECIALLY at range, but I feel kind of sad I won't be throwing handfuls of birdies at people
