How to Survive _____

ESO, in spite all of it's faults and balance issues, usually has some form of counter play for most things you can encounter in PvP. The purpose of this thread is to create a place where people can discuss moves and set ups that commonly give people trouble and offer ways to survive said moves and builds. I'll start by asking how to survive some things I have trouble with and offering a way to survive something I know others struggle with. Keep in mind I am neither the best PvPer not a bad PvPer, I like to think I'm somewhere in the middle.

How does one survive a powerful Soul Assault or Jesus Beam?

How does one survive proc builds?

How to survive Eye of the Storm - If possible, snare or CC the caster and run for the hills. You force them to use up some of their stamina and with the exception of a streaking mag sorc willing to spend all of that magicka on streaking in chase, you will usually outrun them for much of the duration. If the person is low enough health you MIGHT be able to burst them down but I would not recommend that and hesitation will just mean death, gotta decide then and there if it's fight or flight. I recommend flight.

How to survive Dawnbreaker//Meteor//Dragonleap - If you can tell that it's coming, which there are some tells for each of these abilities, blocking the ultimate goes a long way.

Soul Assault last I knew could just be purged. Both however can be broken with line of sight, try to always be aware of what's around you and if possible fight somewhere which gives you cover to dive around to break LoS attacks.

Erm... have a pocket templar spam BoL on you? No idea on this one.

Much of it is class-specific - but I'll throw some sorc-based advice in. I could help with other classes too - but as its been so long since I played them, there are others much, much more qualified..

I do remember starting PVP late in the game - when there were already a LOT of experienced players in Cyro - who were also better geared and higher-CP'd. I remember learning to survive being the most difficult and most important thing to learn..

    So here goes..
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    Shield.

    Seriously though... some specifics..

Jesus beam.. interrupt them or LOS if too far away.. (crushing shock, any ranged stun, gap-close + interrupt). If your health is already low enough for this to be a threat - you already messed, and are now in recovery mode.. so LoS is usually the better option as you'll want a bit of time to heal too.

Soul Assault.. Cloak if NB, Shield if any magica class. Don't bother dodging unless its to quickly get out of range or to LOS. Blocking is a last resort as it will drain a lot of stam. OR try to kill the attacker before he kills you.. While soul-assaulting he is vulnerable.

Procs.. Don't be surprised by them - expect them. For sorc, keep your shield levels high as you never know when Selene appears alongside a Dawnbreaker or incap. non-shielders, blocking is best as it reduced the damage from them - but they still fire and have to wait till the next one. Dodging can avoid all the damage - but as soon as they next hit you, they will proc.
React quickly.. Procs are only dangerous when part of a burst - which is usually a combo of attacks. If you can avoid some of them, you're normally ok. Have enough health to deal with the burst and allow you to recover.

Eye of the storm... if you're talking 1v1.. you kind of have to know what its being combo'd with... A sorc will likely wait till your CC-immunity has finished and time it with a frag to knock you down inside the storm.. so be ready to dodge that frag, cc the attacker and run .. DW gives a lot of preotection from it - and theres a CP star to reduce damage over time dmg. Don't be a vamp.
Or (usually better when he's trying to use it on multiple enemies), focus the attacker to try to kill him.. depends on a lot on the situation.

Dawnbreaker/Meteor/Dragonleap... Meteor is easy. Block it - don't dodge - its undodgable. But block and heal or shield up. The only time this seems to get kills is when timed VERY well with other burst/cc (but if you're blocking, you're stopping the other CC from coming in too). OR when forcing you to slow down and block, means you get caught by a zerg.. Then get out of the way as it leaves a ground dot in its wake.
Dragon Leap - a bit like meteor, but you get less time to react.. I think this can be dodged too(not totally sure). Usually its fairly weak - but sometimes you get some really hard hits from it. These usually catch me off guard, tbh..
Dawnbreaker - you can't really pre-empt it - just don't forget about the dot part. You may need to hide/los/heal if low.

Adding in some tips on surviving sorc burst... When you see a purple glow appear around you - count to 2.5 then block or dodge cos there will probably be a frag on the way too.

    For all cases:
Always try to have a burst heal in your build to recover from burst damage. For stam, that's usually Rally. For Mag - its often class-dependent or healing ward.
And pots - plenty of pots.

ofc. its one think knowing all the counters.. its another thing entirely to put them all into practice.

That @#@#$ bow ultimate. Before I realize what hits me i'm dead. I know, it's just a l2p issue, block and spam shield. But my mind goes: "He what is that" and then it's to late. My reaction is to slow most of the times :(

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

Surviving Soul assault as a medium armour / light armour player without shields or reliable heals is hard. Although LoS is your best friend in such cases.
Beam can be cloaked(for Nightblades) and LoS'd for the rest. Also purge works to remove Beam.

Surviving proc-sets? A lot of the proctatoes usually ambushes first - as soon as you hear the ambush-sound on you, either dodgeroll or block, should mitigate the damage. Then you either heal / shield. If you have the chance to, always keep your shield up and some sort of defensive skill, be that Rune Prison for sorcs, major armour buffs for templar, rally/shuffle for stamina classes etc.
If the gank is not coming from stealth - in a lot of situations you can predict what the nightblade is gonna do. Their rotation is pretty easy to read and in a lot of the situations you know when the Nightblade will incap you.

Surviving Tremourscale.... That thing's annoying. Usually ran by stamsorcs if I'm not mistaken, they will tremourscale into Dizzying swing into dawnbreaker most of the time. So if you can, try and dodgeroll / run through the stamsorc and you should avoid some of it.

Meteor is too obvious. You can see the circle around you seconds before it hits. Dragonleap? Nop, dont see it coming - but you can anticipate when a DK is gonna use it. After one or two combo-rotations or a hit with a dizzying usually.

Hold shield or hots on you and learn to break out very fast!
When you see that you will get much damage incoming, then use the restoration staff ult "lights champion". This skill can be used after breaking free too and heals you very fast.

As a Soul Assault into Jesus Beamer I can safely say this is pretty good advice. I'll add ...

    - Line of Sighting SA is much easier than RO. I straight out will not use SA unless I am 99% sure the victim has no chance to LoS it. It's arguably the easiest move to LoS in the game cause it will break at almost nothing. RO, conversely, I'll spam at someone with only a 1% chance that it'll work. Chances are I'll block break it before you LoS it anyway because - for all the people who laugh at those who use this out of execution range - very few people realize that doing 2 one second ROs followed by a full blast will melt a significant majority of people from 100 to 0 in 5 seconds.
    - Pray the person doing this has them on the same bar. Each has a very small ramp up period that can be completely ignored by bar swapping.
    - I only carry SA because it's my best defense against the Selenes-Viper-Hurricane-SMASH StamSorc army. Nothing will scare one of those guys into a mistake like a blue beam to the face. Especially because they can't LoS it at SMASH range.
