What would be different for you now, if you had started as a different class/role?

So I started as a Dark Elf Sorcerer when I first started and I knew nothing of what I would achieve in the future other than "I want pets to follow me around when I quest".

Fast forward to now, and I've done all of the super special awesome hard content with ease expect the new trial and I spend my time shopping with hobo robs on and a blind fold.

And while I was doing small little achievements like stealing and fishing I thought, "where would I be if I started as something else?"

I could have been an OG trial healer Templar, a Tank, a ganking nightblade in Cyrodill... In a way I wish I was a Nightblade instead or if I could have, started as a Warden. But people seem to prefer Sorcerers in trials so I'm glad I was already one and I met cool people because of it.

If I had stuck with the Nightblade-healer idea I had waaay back when ESO was only announced and had not even shown off any footage yet, I probably would have had a bad time (when I started 2+ years ago, of course) and quit or rerolled :p

If I hadn't started as a Stamblade? I would not have thought the game was ridiculously difficult. Doshia absolutely chewed me up and spit me out at launch. XD

But I also wouldn't have had as much fun. I will never forget sneaking into a camp full of bandits just to assassinate the leader, then sneaking out again. That's the sort of gameplay I like in a main, so I'm glad I did.
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

If Wardens, as are, had been playable in the beginning my first toon would have been the stamward healer I'm thoroughly enjoying right now instead of the stereotypical templar healer. What? I love healing.

No regrets. My first character, which is still my favourite, is a Khajiit magicka Nightblade. Possibly one of the worst choices from a min-max point of view, but I've really had a lot of fun playing.

My very first character was a Breton Dragonknight who wore heavy armor, used a 2h sword on both bars, split attributes into all three stats and used a mix of stamina/magicka damage abilities. :P

I only did quests, back when the game first came out, and I remember having a lot of difficulty with some, which I liked. The final boss of the Bangkoria storyline was the hardest fight for me, as I had very weak self healing potential, only 1 aoe ability which was an ultimate, and since I had no idea about how gearing and builds worked my damage was terribad, and I wore non-set quest dropped gear Xd

    But I enjoyed that experience.

Still, looking back, after having played through most class playstyles and such, I think I would have told myself to choose a dual-wield/staff magicka nightblade class. I love stealthy gameplay options and I enjoy magic too. Plus I really just like knowing I can cloak through hordes of enemies if I don't feel like fighting.

Nothing, I'd always have altitis either way. Stam NB was my first.

Although maybe Stam NB was the best possible choice for me since it certainly taught me to avoid the red in pve, and me constantly flanking was great for my team of friends when we were new in pvp.

I dunno, I was pretty dead set on being a Magic wielding Khajiit, which turned into my horribly made Khajiit MagSorc which struggled all the way to Vet14 before the game switched to the Champion point system, and then that character was deleted for others cause I had just played her so badly. Ignored so many side quests, so many skyshards, lore books. It was awful. I'm much more of a "completionist" now, ironically considering I still consider myself a casual.

I would go back in time though and tell myself to STOP TRYING TO PLAY HOW YOU WANT AS A STAMINA/MAGICKA HYBRID, IT DOESN'T WORK.

I'm serious. I was a Dual Wielding/Sword and Shield MagSorc. I was horrible.

I always play the druid/ranger class in RPGs so I was disappointed when this game didn't have one. It sucks that i completed all the overland content in the game on my templar, who was my original "main" (I don't think I can do that again). He's also my crafter.

Technically I am not playing my first character as that was a Imperial Templar Tank, but as all my friends who I tanked for left I kind of fell into the joys of playing my Nightblade instead, which eventually became my main.

I think if I was to start over I would try and tank again, I do miss it a lot but really hated how slow questing etc. was with a tank back in the VR days.

Not much. No mattet what I choose to play as my first char I'd most likley ended up playing a khajiit warden healer (as I am right now).

The only difference could be that I'd still be a PvP player
Originaly I planned on focusing on PvP since I didn't want to deal with the stress of gearing up in time for new PvE content or risk being unable to play it (my only previous experience in MMOs are wow, so I had no idea that ESO had all max level pve content scale so it never "got old"). Also I thought Cyro was super fun. Only problem was that I preformed super bad with my stamblade dispite me using a deltia build.

I didn't start preforming somewhat ok untill I rerolled my stamdk to mag. And I think that if I had originaly played a magsorc, magdk or magplar I would probably have enjoyed PvP much more and not moved away from it.

    But I'd still be a cat ;)[/spoler]

My main now isn't who I started with. My first character was a stamblade. If I mained MagDK from the beginning, my main would have all of my research done and I wouldn't have to switch characters for crafting. Oh the possibilities.

    would change nothing

if a game offers me a stealth dual wield and/or bow option then I'm gold.

While levelling my stamblade was as squishy as anything so there was no room for mistakes (though plenty made....)

Now almost finished story/campaign on my tanky DK and it has been ludicrously easy in comparison. Still got the sorc and templar to go and hoping their play experience will be different again.

My first & main is a Khajiit stamblade in heavy armour (ha!). Would I change that? No as I love playing him.

But I have a multitude of alts so have the ability to play a variety of races/class/roles.

Well lest see i started as an orc stam sorc, then i made a high elf magSorc so i guess if i started with a magSorc i would have made a stamSorc 2nd. Well i also made a nightblade sap tank so maybe i would have made him 2nd idk ....i also leveled a earden to 50 so of i would have started with him i wouldnt have started playing when i did. Wait ...? Im confused

It wouldn't have made any difference what toon i made first....

My first characters were Dragonknight during beta and after launch. It was all I ever wanted from this game.

2 or 3 months after launch, after having leveled 2 dragonknights to 50 on live I found I was bored with them (go figure)

Discovered the nightblade. Now I have two of those at lvl 50 and had a handful of other nightblades that lived in the 10-49 PVP campaign back before vet ranks were removed.

Since then, I've then leveled a stamsorc to 50, two templars to 50.. and then another Dragonknight to 50. This last dragonknight was the magic. I don't care about any of the other characters.

Now the only thing I haven't leveled to cap is magsorc and either version of warden, but I don't really care too. That mDK life.

I am happy I did not start with something else than my kitty NB healer. Today, after three years, he is still my favorite character.

But I think I would have taken an Argonian Templar if I had an idea of what I was going to do with my character. When I started, I just picked a kitty because I love cats and a Nightblade because it was the class I tried during the beta and I liked it.

OP you could have ended up like me with 38 different characters and can't even complete Vet DLC Dungeons. It is actually fun switching between different classes.

Man, playing as a Stam DK tank (though Redguard so that helped) Dosha sucked back then too. It wasn't until I figured out the mechanics with the orbs - and went after them - did I succeed. But I definitely died a lot before then lol

I would be right where I am today. I started a Sword and Board DK but switch to stam. After that character was all leveled up, I moved on to the next class, Night Blade, Sorc, and Templar. After I get my other characters through Vvardenfell, I will start a Warden. With the exception of the Templar, I could very easily pick one of the other characters and start playing it as my main.

I dont know what you mean? You have many character slots...use them. I have a templar healer, a DK tank, a sorc DPS, a warden tank/healer hybrid, a magicka DPS, a kajiit stamblade, a magicka DPS/tank hybrid, a stamina DPS/tank hybrid, etc etc. Admittedly I play just a couple of them on a regular basis...but I have something for every occasion.

At release I started as a heavy armor S&B DK. At the the time of course heavy armor did nothing and stamina weapons were pretty useless. I would have simply gone with the meta at release which was everyone wore light armor and used destro/resto but I was somewhat stubborn. If I had known the future I would have gone light armor staff and then changed when heavy armor and stamina weapons meant something

Why would I have started as a different class? I put a lot of thought into how I wanted my main characters to be... and choose my class carefully according to it. Then made alts for all other classes as well. Never regretted my mains class selection...
