In memory of Animaniac

Hello everyone

I am writing this post to share with ESO community a social event we organised yesterday. We attended the in game memorial service in the honour of our guildmate Animaniac (@BURNIINGMAN).

He passed away at the age of 27 last Friday. We received a SMS message from his family informing us of his passing.
For many of us he was a playmate, a tank, and much more. He was a good friend and a boyfriend. They met eachother in game. We played a lot together.

I have known him for one year. He was one of the first people I met on this game. We spent hours and hours with all our guildmates on voice chat. As we spent time in game, I end up talking with him more than I do with some IRL friends and it was the same for many of us after meeting him several times IRL, last time was in March.

For most of us, who had not the possibility to attend his funeral, or who had not their place there, we decided to organise a memorial service in game. We assembled around fifty people who played with Ani, and wished to pay him a tribute in a place that was important to him.

During this event, we drank to his memory, recalled fond memories and told anecdotes. It was a comforting moment, although difficult. It's really reassuring to see that the player community is tightly-welded to face things that affect all of us.

A video published by Léo Grasset inspired me to create this event. A great deal of our lives is spent online and in this virtual world having fun and building strong relationships and they are part of our everyday life and bereavement has its place in these places as well. The attendance of so many players yesterday highlights their desire to pay their respects in game.

More and more, player communities come together to give these opportunities. Even though we do not have the ability to develop a large addon to create an altar to mark this place, it will stay for us a place to meet with Ani, when we will feel like reminiscing the time when he lived and played with us.

One thing that all of us share is a love for this game. In that way, we are all connected.

    Rest in peace, brother.
