Suggestion for Clockwork City - Make it a Horror DLC!

So, it's probably 2yrs too late for this suggestion.. but oh well! Time for finals procrastination ;D

I wanted to offer a suggestion for the upcoming DLC Clockwork City that could be such a huge game changer they could put it on hold for another year just to follow this advice. Interested? Good!

Take a huge risk with Clockwork City and make it as dark, creepy, scary, and disturbing as Dark Souls / Blame! manga. Essentially, make it into a horror-esque DLC!

Instead of adding a single trial / dungeon, create the Clockwork City to be this massive and expansive underground city that seemingly crawls on for ages beneath the ground of Tamriel. Introduce darker corridors that may lead to no where, a sense of hopelessness and being lost. Dark Souls / Bloodborne did a great job with producing that atmosphere, but Blame! did it even better. If you don't know Blame! it's an older manga about - you know it doesn't matter, just look at these pictures and feel abandoned, scared, and totally shrunken by the magnitude that is this expansive mechanical city... which is totally what the new DLC should be like, after it's already been done, and will be released in a handful of months!

I would love that! ESO really needs that eerie adult-themed feel like in Skyrim to it. The game is apparently 18+ but feels childish as fudge. We don't even have blood splatter, they could at least make something creepy! *_*

Probably won't happen due to the PEGI rating requirement.

Also not sure ZoS is wired properly to do this the way it would need to be done (S.O.M.A. , Penumbra, Amnesia, and so forth.)
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

A horror-themed dlc certainly would be an interesting change of pace! I wonder, has an mmo ever done something like that (successfully)?

the secret world did! Best atmosphere in any MMORPG i've ever played! Too bad the combat wasn't too engaging. Plus the quests were the best i've ever seen a studio write. They had the most engaging investigation missions that really made you think your brains out

Would be more fitting for Mephala's Realm, I think.

I disagree. I remember the moment when I saw what happened to Sotha Sil in Morrowind, I was horrified. I mean this is totally right up along the lines of Blame! and Geiger's art with bio-mechanical horror. Blame! and Dark Souls totally capture that body horror and sense of loneliness that the original Clockwork City had all over it.

A bit late for suggestions for Clockwork City at this time.
But if there is one thing I would love to see in CC, are the dwemer airships!

Coming out as Secret World Legends with a new combat system on June 26th. Yay.

I would love a horror aspect to ESO.

I didn't miss that fact, I based my entire post on it! Bio-mechanical horror people! Why not move away from the typical? If you played Skyrim and Morrowind, seriously those Dwemer ruins were c.r.e.e.p.y! They felt isolated. That sudden sense of abandonment made my skin crawl. I mean deep within the depths there were plates, forks, cups on the table still. It was pretty terrifying. Even before the Falmer started invading, just exploring those ruins, I felt like I was being watched from the darkness.

Also, in Morrowind, there was always this super sense of dread within the Dwemer ruins. Those super loud metallic scrapping doors, the sudden rush of a Dwemer construct popping out to destroy your face. They were terrifying!

Of course, I know this is steampunk goodness, my suggestion, which I outlined, is a suggestion from the norm. It's a DLC, it's not a 'chapter,' so it isn't like they'd be risking such a huge chunk of investment on it.

Come on, step into the weird with me, you might like it :D

In all honesty, From Software! needs to get on making a game of Blame! STILL, this totally fits Clockwork City and would be a huge surprise to fans. I wonder if they could make procedurally generated dwemer spawn points... think of the jump scares :dizzy:

I think there's plenty of very creepy content in ESO and Imperial City is creepy as can be in every regard. No need to add another "creepy" DLC.

That being said... nothing is *really* creepy in ESO because the general graphical design of the game is pretty "Disney-ish" - which is the opposite of creepy.

For something really creepy they'd need to change the entire graphical philosophy of ESO.... which I'd rather they didn't.

TL/DR : the best way to get "Dark-Souls-Creepy" is... to play Dark Souls, not ESO ;-)

create a PROCEDURALLY GENERATED DUNGEON REALM, THE CLOCKWORK CITY, add procedurally generated monsters, etc...

Daedra invading Sotha Sils peaceful realm of machines, working all in harmony.

Sounds like a horror movie for him, for sure.
Power level to CP160 in a week:
Where is the end game? You just played it.

    Where is new content? Sigh.

First off... interesting idea. But lets remember at this point Sotha Sil is alive and would be on our side. I doubt he'd send his machines after us for no good reason.
As for the ending of the main Morrowind story; those were automatic defences. And he is currently 'travelling' according to Vivec.

That being said; it was mentioned there is a Daedric invasion of the city, correct? Then that could be made scary I suppose. lol

AND SECONDLY.... PLEASE PEOPLE! STOP SAYING ITS 'DWEMER'! Clockwork City is (quoting Barilzar) 'pure Sotha Sil'. :)

Sotha Sil is still Dwemer, he's always been obsessed with the Dwemer, just b/c he repurposed it doesn't change what they are >:(

I'm kidding, honestly I don't care, I see machines, I see creepy underground passages, I see an opportunity to do something different!

Like in my original post, I'm not saying this would totally fit, I'm saying this is a really cool original idea that could really set them apart from the norm. I know it's too late. I know it doesn't go exactly along with lore (though I do debate that and I think it absolutley could). I also know it'd be amazing to take my sorc main and travel through the scary pits of a Clockwork City fashioned after the ideas of the cold emotionless void that are machines. >:)

Sotha Sil may be obsessed with the Dwemer, but he isn't one himself. And Clockwork City is his own creation, it isn't a pre-existing Dwemer city that he repurposed.

If you've read The Truth in Sequence, it doesn't sound like the sort of place that suits a horror story. But hopefully as a 10 hour DLC there may be a side quest or two that offers the feeling of the dark void.

Errrmmm... no. The Clockwork City is going to be The Clockwork City, which is a wondrous place filled with cogs and gears and fabricants of all shapes and sizes. Sotha Sil would not have made his home creepy af. If you want horror wait for the Spiral Skein, that would actually make sense.

Sotha Sil is not a Dwemer... he's a Chimer. o.O Yes, he was influenced by the Dwemer; but his style is different and I'm quite sure his ability to make mechanical wonders surpasses the Dwemer.

I've loved the idea of the Clockwork City since I first played Morrowind... and can't wait to finally meet Sotha Sil properly after all these years.

I'd like to see a DLC area like this, but put the respawn point at the beginning, and make it so that soul gems do not work in the area. Either turn it all off, or only allow the Soul Magic respawn trait to bring you back midway. Otherwise, could add small respawn shrines along the way that need to be unlocked each time you go through, but are a bit off the path, or hidden in hard to get to areas...

If I had any part of this game's creative design I would create a very dark atmosphere with enemies that would give you hell if you don't pay attention. These enemies could only be defeated by utilizing mechanics rather than raw damage. This would have the content difficult for all players; regardless of level.

Oh, and this would be the background music:
