Alliance switching?

I'm new. I have two chars. This is my first forum post. I joined forum because I have a question. I have run PvP 97% because it seems i lvl faster.
181cp sorc mag EP
23lvl dk stam EP.
My opinion means nothing to you so I wont share that, please do the same.
It seems like all alliances have certain players/guilds that communicate with each other across alliances. I have personally seen multiple ally players on enemy alliances and want to know why. At first i was angry but now I'm just amazed and confused.
Do they all join as EP take map, switch to DF take the map and then switch to AD? And so on and so forth, etcetera.
Do they take turns taking keeps and getting emp so they can get the maximum AP/XP from the campaign?
Is it worth doing compared to playing one alliance?
Is this common practice?

lots of good questions ya got there "richard the daedric"...

guilds and friendships due in fact play a very large role in how the map looks, who has emp and which faction wins the campaign...

just how prevalent is faction swapping on your particular map - i don't know...

personally I'm a solo player whom has multiple characters in different factions all in the same map...

I choose not to get involved in the social/political aspect of cyrodiil...i focus on what I want to accomplish with that particular character I'm playing at the time...i do all i can to support whatever faction I happen to be playing for...

talk about getting angry - wait til you see someone from your own alliance give away your position to an enemy; or, when you first see someone from your own alliance deliver an enemy scroll your alliance controls back to the enemy...

what you focus on will definitely determine your enjoyment level of pvp...it's not easy, but, being able to focus on just getting better with my builds and playstyle is a bunch of fun for me...

there are a lot of flaws you have to look past in order to simply focus on the fun...

I do miss the days back when you could only have 1 alliance per campaign. Meaning if your character was Daggerfall and you are on Vivec, you couldn't take your alt who was say EP and have that character on Vivec as well. But that was back when there was like 7 campaigns to choose from. Wish they would really bring that back.

I would say most people that play multiple alliances do so to play with friends, kill some people on their main alliance or just for a change of scenery, also some like to fight for the weakest alliance for the challenge.

This said there is definitely a minority that like to spy and do dirty tactics but what can you do about them, its war after all.

Never played back then but I would go along with it provided there were campaigns available for you to play on with other alliance characters.

I have characters in all alliances and feel a bit funny switching between them in the same campaign, even though I am not doing anything untoward. With very few campaigns, some with very little activity, we don't have a real big choice.

Not necessarily for the challenge even, but because they are too lazy to run to the other side of the map to get action ^^
When we rolled EP characters instead of playing our DC mains, it was because EP was being pushed back every night to arrius / homekeeps, that way we didn't have to travel to get fights, they were on our doorstep.

i usually mess about in below lv50 coz i altaholic n have many friends there from all alliances and a long history there, i lead all 3 pugs and have good memories. I only returned to non-DC alliances recently to kill some salty DC vet players, i killed them lv11 in TF (6k spell damage buffed) so it's done but i met and voice chatted with old adversaries from EP and AD recently, lots of fun.

Its all just sport after all.

    Ask them.

It's very easy to speculate on why people are doing whatever they're doing, but if you actually want to know, they are the only ones who can tell you. So just ask them.

I personally preferred this too. I only have DC toons but I do have friends who are of other factions or play all factions and well whatever, as to why? the why will differ from person to person, to play with friends, to get a good fight, to even out the fights, to actually have something to fight against, winning alliance, losing alliance and because YOLO!!! every reason I have heard thus far

It is human nature to take the path of least resistance. ZOS recognized early on that it was muy importante to keep the factions separate. But after OneTamriel they defied their own logic and instead of limiting the unrestriction to PvE only, made it whole game including Cyro. HUGE Mistake! People of different factions sit in TD/Discord negotiating who gets crowned next and how the map can best be manipulated to make that happen. ZOS is actively promoting/encouraging AP whoredom by allowing faction jumpers to log on their Red toons to run the map, then their Blue or Yellow toons to reverse it all. We have rampant corruption...such as the infamous case when players were banned for talking a keep, flipping the flags then running up stairs to allow the enemy to reflip, then back down to flip again. Everyone got AP for taking a keep over, and over, and over...And it's all ZOS's fault for ignoring what they know to be true, that players will "game" the system whenever given a chance to. But what of those of us who actually LOVE the 30 day campaigns? Who strive hard...on a daily basis...to actually achieve a goal by winning the damned thing? We get to watch whole guilds hop over from a different campaign to ensure victory for a certain faction. Fun! Or to watch a faction go from pop locked to 2 bars population, while at exactly the same time another goes from 2 bars to pop locked and crushes that side of the map. Fun! We have the login queue exploit where players actually lock out a certain factions players by manipulating the system. Ever seen all factions pop locked but one faction with virtually nobody around to defend or take keeps? I have had my guild check the sewers and confirmed that they weren't there and surely not present on the battlefield of Cyro. This is a major problem which has been ignored for far too long and should be addressed immediately. But I digress...What we need is a faction lock, by account, on a campaign by campaign basis. Pick a side and your account stays there until the 30 day campaign is over. Wanna hang with ya friends from other factions? Great! 97% of the worlds PvE map is still available to you for that, as well as BG's. There's just no reasonable argument for allowing cross faction jumping anymore, except to encourage AP whoredom and griefing both of which I categorize as detrimental to the game. You have the ability ZOS to return things as they were, to fix a terible mistake you've made. And I really hope you do so. This great game was premised around a terrible war between 3 sides, which by it's very nature would encourage FIERCE loyalty among each factions members. Don't make it a mercenary whorefest please.

    Well met.

    Two things.

Pick an alliance and stay with it. You enjoy the drama a lot more and those who only play one alliance gets creds for it.

Second, "level faster" is the biggest mistake you can do. Cyro has quite a lot of EX players that got max level, max CPs, top geared and watched youtube for the "best" skills, all "fast". You'll see them every now and then complaining about -fill in the blank- is unbalanced before they rage quit.

Your personal skill along with the ability to "read" the map and be perceptive enough to your situation to adapt to it, is where the real power is. There is only one way to learn this......play.

    Good luck!

There are plenty of players who change to their other character from another alliance, if that one happens to be dominating at that time. In empty campaigns people even exploited this to PvDoor and farm points on their various characters with little or no actual PvP involved, even farming emperor. That's pretty lame. IMO there should be a campaign/account lock that doesn't allow you to keep characters from more than one alliance on the same home campaign and switch campaign until it ends. Ex. if you have an AD char with Vivec set as home campaign, you can only set Vivec as home campaign only for another AD char, but you can set Sotha Sil or Almalexia as home for your EP one. There are 3-4 campaigns on each server, plus the non-vet one, so that's achievable in practice.

just play your characters and have fun...the majority of folks on the map are going to be doing their own thing - do yours...

don't worry so much about what other folks are doing - focus on your characters, your builds - and, most importantly your playstyle for each character...

if your new and you already have two characters, chances are if you enjoy eso you'll have more - no need to place any artificial restraints on yourself...

So I can't speak for others, but when I first made my DC and EP toons it was because back in the days of IC you needed to have opposite faction toons to buy the style mat for the alliance war styles. Me being the frugal crafter I am, I made the toons so I could spend my tel var that I had instead of paying exorbitant prices in guild stores for super rare style mats. Later on I made some more DC toons so that I had options of what to play on when I pvp'ed with my friend who at the time was only on DC. I know a lot of players like having the option to go pvp on another faction, which isn't a bad thing at all. It's fairly common practice for people to have different faction characters, although I don't see too much faction swapping mid pvp as a whole. There are a few players off the top of my head who constantly hop factions every chance they get, but a lot of the pvpers I see stay on one faction because it's their home faction. I have pvped on all 3 factions at least once, but AD is still my home faction for pvp.
