You should be able to just use the wayshrine in the Morrowind starter city to travel to the other factions starter cities. Once in those starter cities, iirc, your quest log will update with a message about a hooded man with a map marker so that the the original story quest line can start. That's what I remember at least when I made my new warden alt at least. Hope that helps!

THIS is exactly right. Unfortunately there is no 'option' when you start a character as to which 'tutorial' you start with, if you have Morrowind, you're stuck with Morrowind tutorial now. I have never tried the Sayda Neen Wayshrine though, I usually just 'jump to' guildmates in original alliance zone. If the Wayshrine doesn't work, there should be a ship at the harbor- either Sayda Neen or Vivec City that should be able to take you to mainland alliance zones.

The new starting quest is a trade-off, you get +1 extra skill point than older characters and for some odd reason you gain Soul Magic without losing your Soul. The entire "Vestige" quest line is now completely optional, you can do it when you want to the point that you still have your soul as you do everything else!

And this benefits or hinders you how? Having a soul or being soulless offers no benefit or hindrance in the game, but if you are a consummate RPer, perhaps it comes into play.

Start a new character, make it back to your factions main zone and go through the vestige quest line. The changes are interesting.

As other people have said there is annoyingly no way to actually start with the original tutorial.

But I can confirm that once you've completed the Morrowind tutorial you can use the wayshrine to go to your Alliance's starting city and then you'll be approached by a hooded figure who will give you a quest that starts the original tutorial.

And if you're at all interested in continuity and the story making any kind of sense I guess you're just going to have to ignore that, especially when you meet Naryu for the 'first' time. (Although I suppose depending on the rest of your characters backstory it may be possible to twist it around travelling to Morrowind and then immediately leaving again. But in my case that just produced a convoluted mess, no matter how I did it, and I didn't want to completely change the character, so I'm ignoring it.)

Your character scales to the game ... so you can pretty much do any mission anywhere you want (Mainland or Morrowind).

There are few restrictions to questing.

PvP quests in Cyrodiil unlock at level 10. Undaunted dailies unlock at level 45.

    That's about it.

I hate the souless quest line. I like this soooo much better. I started a new warden and if I never go through the main quest line, I consider that a good time in the game. I'm going to do the faction quests but I'm only doing the fighters guild and the mage guild long enough to get the persuade and intimidate and then they will be left unfinished. I have two other characters at 50 and have never done craglorn.

This game is all messed up, following the story really makes no sense, so I'd recommend just play in Morrowind since they want you to do that, and level up fast as possible.

Couple things to mention, this game started out as Alliance vs Alliance. Then it allowed you to make characters so you part of every alliance. Then it merged all alliance and made one tameriel.. Yet, alliance war stilling going on, and you could be DC and goto riften, and the NPCs will act like you aint even DC.

It didnt even do some storyline to introduce one tameriel, they just said thats going to happen and it happened.

If this game was GW2, there would be a living story, building up to one tameriel, bringing in all the alliances to come together and have a true storyline that is actually real time. Aka Living Story.

This game, the story is like single player game, and you gotta buy expansions and the expansions have no tie with the actual storyline. It's completely remote thing, like wrothgar. Has no connection, just your typical old age expansion that offers new zones, gear, and quests.

I think you just avoid picking a warden.

But I'm no expert here. I never made more than 1 character.
