Finding items through traders

So we all know there is no global auction house. Some people love it some people hate it. One suggestion I have always had sense the beginning of the game I wanted to discuss.

Each of the factions main city should have a npc that's known as a master trader. You can type in or search any item that you want and they tell you which guild traders currently have that item in stock (but not the price). That way if your looking for a specific item you don't need to search through 100 guild sits r and waste hours and hours of your life looking for an item. As the price is also hidden this can cause the player to still have to search around a bit for the best price or risk that guild store selling out if someone else beats them to it.

I for one am personally sick of the amount of time it can take to find an item and I'm sure many of the lesser guild stores would love this feature to as it can attract new people to them for items that may be sitting there for a long time when no one even knows the guild store existed at that location.

Thoughts?

Trust me, you want prices listed. Some items can fluctuate by over a 100k in price.

I like the idea of not seeing prices. That way it isn't just a race to the cheapest listed price. If you are looking for a certain recipe and ten different traders have it you would have to decide is it worth it visiting all ten to find best price or just go with the first one you get to.

And I know if prices were listed people would team up with friends one at the central location and others scattered throughout different zones so they could flip the bargains.

So you want an auction house that's called a "master trader" instead? Still an auction house...and still not needed!

I just hit up guild traders in prime locations (those near a wayshrine) Pretty quick. With Awesome guild store, your previous search is saved, so just hit vendor, click 'r' if nothing comes up, move on.

If on PC, the addon called awesome guild store let's you search.

If not on PC, Tamriel trade center linked above let's you search for an item on any platform

No there is a difference. I am very much against an auction house. This would be basically just a list of where you might find the item. You wouldn't see the price and you would still need to go to the vendor to purchase the item. I like what we have now much better than an auction house but this idea wouldn't be horrible. On the plus side out of the way vendors might see more traffic as people could see what they have. The negative being a trader with just a few things available would see even less traffic.
This idea would save some time but would still mean having to go to each trader to see prices.

An idea I would support even more is just let us do a smart search within each traders inventory as we visit. That would save all kinds of time as you wouldn't have to scroll through a whole list of crap you are not interested in just to see whether they even have what you are looking for or not.

I guess there's still no way to search many guild stores at once? Have to run around and visit multiple stores just to find seaflower tea recipe? Telling me where it was last sold and for how much doesn't tell me who has it for sale . . .

There should at least be a main list of all Guild Store locations, so one can portal from place to place trying to find an item, even if it takes a heap of time and effort.

I hate the guild store system. I have limited time to play, running around all over the world tracking items that arent there anymore from TTC is so annoying. Not to mention all the, how do I put this politely, players with lots of time on their hands who go around buying up any item for a good price to flip them for profit. I can never find anything without a lot of effort.

The auction house in WoW was infinitely better. I actually engaged in selling in that game too, because it wasnt such an effort.

No. Auction House isn't needed. I don't want to fight the undercut bots undercutting me by 1 gold every time I post something.

Tamriel Trade Center is the nearest we've got: https://eu.tamrieltradecentre.com/

It only displays items which are currently available for sale at the time the guild store is scanned, not ones which have already sold, but it does take a while for items to disappear from the listings on the website once they're sold so there can be old listings included which are no longer available. But it does at least narrow it down to guild traders which have had the item recently, and there's an option to sort the listings by when they were last seen on the trader so you can start with the newest ones.

It's not as useful if you're on console though, because without the addon items have to be listed manually so a lot less stuff gets added, but on PC players can automatically add everything from their guild store, or any guild store they visit, so there's a lot more items included.

It's certainly not ideal and in no way comparable to the trade systems other games have which let you see all the items currently available and are updated in real time. But it's the best we're liklely to get in ESO, and it's enough that I've gone from never buying anything from guild traders because it's simply not worth wasting my time trekking around different traders hoping I find one selling what I want completely by chance to occasionally making time to buy things I can't easily get another way, since it cuts the time down enough that it can be worth the trouble.

This system is easy enough and promotes a dynamic market instead of a garbage central market system. I dunno, if you want to play a game where every single aspect is as dumbed down for casual play as they possibly can then WoW might be for you. But ESO isnt that game and there is a reason why it's still so popular. It's because it's not another generic WoW clone. I don't understand this mentality of demanding everything be dumbed down for the people who put the least effort in. We don't want a generic WoW clone. I've never spent more than 10 minutes finding an item unless it's some really obscure TV set or something.

It’s weird to me that this community is ok having to you outside game websites and having to download addons just to be able to search for what they are buying.

ESO is a much more casual friendly game, so your argument falls apart there. I just personally hate the guild trader system because it is a huge waste of time to me. The effort required to do something as simple as buying an item without being ripped off is very annoying.

Speaking as an Xbox one player, Tamriel Trade Centre is entirely useless. The database is bare, and has no real information on ANYTHING. This is partly why i'm debating on switching to PC. The trade system is garbage. And based on research through the threads on here, some don't want an Auction House. This seems due to the fact that they are profiting WAY too much on the current system. So changing it would take away their funds. I've always said, just go the Runescape route. I love their Grand Exchange. It was a game changer when they implemented it. Unpopular opinion, but again - it's just an opinion.

I mean you can already see the prices, you just have to use an outside source. The addon is used enough that It's quite easy to just always rush to the cheapest price, and I certainly don't always win that race. The functionality already exists and the market is still fine, so it's really not as big a deal as some people make it out to be. I definitely don't miss spending 30+ minutes hopping between all the big trading guilds hoping to find what I needed back in the day. That was just tedious and a waste of time.

The problem is that 2/3 of the player base does not have access to addons to do this. The people suggesting a change are almost always console players because 1) there are less bots driving the prices down, 2) they cannot use popular addons to fix the ignored requests of the player base.

The system needs to be changed, along with addons that most pc players basically us as if it is base game. Remember, before they added multicrafting to the base game PC players used addons for this feature and console players had to make 4 potions at a time.
