Wizards Riposte and damage shields

Hey,

so wizards riposte debuff the attacker with 15% less DMG if he lands a critical strike on u.

I know that shiels grants u crit immunit, but them system still let u "crit" them, it just doesnt show up as a crit. E.g. if u have a 3k shield left and them attacker hits u with a 5k "crit", them 2k DMG left will be a critical hit.

So my question is, if u have a 10k shield and getting attacked by an 5k crit, does them system proc wizards riposte cuz of " actually it was a crit, it just doesnt show on screen cuz of shields, but if the shield wouldnt be there, it would have been a crit".

I hope u know what I mean, sry :dizzy:

    • You can't crit on a shield, so there is no 'crit' until the shield is down.
    • Leftover damage after a shield breaks does pass on to the character, but it's not a crit at that point.
    • Don't bump your own post.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

IRL'ing for a while for assorted reasons, in forum, and in game.
I am neither warm, nor fuzzy...
Probably has checkbox on Customer Service profile that say High Aggro, 99% immunity to BS

And u did test that? Because I already knew what u said and u are not even completely right.

Crit surge heals u on DMG shields without overlapping dmg, so there is a "crit count" which does not show up on screen.

Thank you anyway for ur response, but there is a reason I did ask that..

Shields prevent critical hits from dealing critical damage, but attacks can still count as criticals even if they hit shields. Think of it this way: your enemy successfully rolls for critical damage, but then your shield prevents the critical damage from occurring. Wizard's Riposte checks for the successful crit roll, not for the critical damage actually happening. This is not what the tooltip says, but it's the way the set works.

If you somehow still don't believe what others have posted above you, then you're invited to download PTS. Set up a character template and try the 5-piece set out yourself on an enemy NPC that has damage shields. The easiest NPCs to find are the resource guards in Cyrodiil. If you already have 5 pieces on Live all the easier ... head out to Cyrodiil and try it on the guards or duel a friend that has shields.

This set is overperforming and then some. Im starting to see more and more ppl use this set, I walk around with the debuff on me for 50% of time time when fighting. This set is now pretty much standard on magplar and magsorc in my experience, its just a question of time before the other magclasses start using it aswell.

No cooldown, no limit on how many target it debuffs, whoever tought that was a good idea?

... Probably someone who realized that it was horribly unfair that mag sorcs have no synergy with heavy armor, unlike virtually every other class and build. Is it really fair that we're forced to fight in pajamas while everyone else is wearing plate mail?

"No cooldown..." LOL! What's the cooldown on the extra 10K resistances on all those DKs and Templars have because they can wear heavy armor without gimping their builds?

Dont turn this into a "lets *** about wizards riposte" thread please...

Shields dont grant critical chance immunity but critical dmg bonus immunity. People can crit on Your shields basing on their critical chance but shields will lower their critical multiplier down to 0. Having shield on You is like having infinite Critical Resistance.

This is why every thing that works with crits only like Surge , Wizard's Riposte , Scathing Mage etc can proc even if dmg is dealt to dmg shields.
